What I particularly love about this choice is that you're not killing him out of spite, but out of love. By killing him, you are giving him the death he seeks, even if it breaks your heart. By sparing him, you're spitting on his honour one last time before you go into hiding, but he's still alive. My only problem is that both endings touch on different subjects. Spare has Jin donning his mask once more, embracing the Ghost, and leaving without another word, while Kill has Jin finally telling Shimura that he loves him like a father, and how he wishes that there was another way. It just hurts knowing that even if you spare him, Shimura probably thinks you despise him or something, but the only way to actually tell him you love him is by stabbing him in the heart.
@Midnight-wh2bs Жыл бұрын
To be fair, sparing Shimura isn't actually all that much better, as he would've been disgraced for the failure and likely made to commit seppeku because of it. So either way Shimura is dead, it's just whether you can bring yourself to give him the honorable death he wanted at the cost of the guilt from doing so, or spare yourself the guilt at the cost of forcing Shimura to die without honor

I think one of the reasons as well that killing your uncle during this tale is still canonically good because he did his uncle the Honorable death for HIS uncle and not for being a samurai, so in a way, his uncle would be proud knowing that the last thing jin did to him is show honor even tho he lost his way.

@@hansbune3467 this was my thinking as well. Killing him has nothing to do with Jins honor but the honor of your uncle. Either way, you are still going to continue to be the ghost and stand by your convictions so killing him isn't contradictory at all. In my head, even though Jin disagreed with how Shimura went about things, he knew that everything he did never had any malicious intent behind it, but rather he was an old, stubborn, dense man who genuinely wanted to help his people the best way that he knew how. If we want to praise Jin for sticking to his morals and ideals then we should show the same respect to his uncle as well which, to me, Jin would. My friend and I chose different endings, but when we explained it to each other, we discovered we had the same reasons. I chose to spare cause I felt that if Jin were to kill Shimura, he would see it the same as his fathers death. Another father he couldn't save. So leaving him alive, even on bad terms, gives him the peace of mind that he did everything he could and was at least able to come to a decision he can be satisfied with. My friend chose kill because she wanted to honor Shimura's last wish. She felt Jin would do this as a final means of reconciliation. To give Shimura the peace of mind that Jin isn't completely honorless. That with his death, Jin and Shimura can come together for one last moment. As father and son. We both thought about how Jin would feel and how this final choice would affect him going forward.

@Issac Wayne Gomez I liked TLOU2s story better honestly, it kept me going more and it feels like there was a reason for everything you did. I had to take some breaks from GoT because of how repetitive a lot of the missions were. The missions with Jin’s former caretaker were gruellingly boring. That being said, I still loved GoT but I feel like the story had way more cliches and just followed an outline of many games before it. You can even liberate the entire island of Tsushima and still Mongols will be walking around. The attention to detail is also what gets me

This ending choice brilliantly conveys the games theme: what is honor? Khotun Khan follows an idea of honor as being remembered or being compared to the greats, like his cousin or grandfather. Lord Shimura (do we ever learn his given name?) follows a traditional definition of honor: you take the hard but moral high path, even if it dooms you. And Jin, by contrast, abides by a definition of honor more in line with modern definitions: self sacrifice. If it saved his people, he was willing to go to hell. He knew full well what the consequences were likely to be when he poisoned the Mongols. He refused to put the blame on Yuna when his uncle begged him to not take responsibility for his actions. Despite losing literally everything he had (title, land, home, best friend, family, younger brother figure, freedom, TWO horses,) and without a word of thanks he's willing to do it all again because his notion of honor is the same as a hero's: protect others before yourself.

Killing Abby would make the whole story pointless. Ellie was hell-bent on killing Abby because she didn't get closure with Joel and took away the chance to fix things between them. Sparing her was a symbolic moment for Ellie's character arc as she forgives herself. That flashback with Joel at the end proves it. Joel was at peace with the outcome of his actions because it was worth it to save Ellie. So it was Ellie who wanted redemption and sparing Abby was actually Ellie forgiving herself for her mistakes that broke the bond between her and Joel.

I think that sparing Shimura makes more sense from the gameplay standpoint. The whole game, you are trying to get out of the Bushido because while Bushido is what makes you a warrior and Japanese, countless people have to die pointlessly. That is what Jin keeps doing in the game... he goes out of his way to actually HELP people and not only talk about it while sending them to die. Sparing him, while dishonorable for Shimura, shows Jin outgrew Bushido and actually saved innocents by sacrificing his own Bushido honor...which ironically, is what was the most honourable thing to do to save more people than Shimura could ever do. Shimura was selfish... he did not care... he only cared about his legacy and not people. To beat mongols and their clever grasp of Samurai shackles, one had to outgrow those shackles. Without Jin, Tsushima would have been doomed. Shimura would rather let whole Japan fall than go against his pride and stubborn desire to leave great Bushido legacy.

I think killing him is the better option. To me, Jin threw away his honor and went against all he has been taught not just because it was easier.He felt like he had to for the sake of his island and people. he’s always been a selfless person. When he tells Shimura he’s a slave to honor, he’s telling him that he will be willing to throw away everything and everyone else if it meant maintaining his code. So killing him would not only rekindle his relationship with his uncle, but also prove Lord Shimura wrong. Jin giving him the death he wishes for to is not only selfless, but HONORABLE. It shows that Jin Sakai is more than just the Ghost of Tsushima, showing another layer of humanity to kill somebody that he loves and admires, and it shows balance. While too much honor can go against you, having no honor at all is just a different extreme that only leads to destruction. It seems more fitting to his character.

The spare option is for people who can't stand the endings of movies and books that are destined for tragic endings. The kill option, as gut-wrenching (pun intended) and holy-shit-I-actually-cried as it was, makes for a more satisfying and appropriate ending, especially when it comes to a classic feudal Japanese story about honor. Also, think of this: if Jin spares him, Shimura would still be ordered to commit seppuku by the shogun for failing to kill Jin, which in that society is a waaaaaaay worse fate than being killed by his nephew. Yes, I killed him without thinking twice about it, but holy shit did it still gut punch me. One more thing: when you get the white ghost armor dye start a new game+, get the Charm Of Carnage for maximum blood, and have fun being a true executioner getting soaked in blood while cutting down enemies. What a lot people don't seem to know is that by sparing him you are likely just condemning your uncle to commit suicide under the order of the Shogun, alone and without honor. Even if you want to be the Ghost and disagree with the traditions and system of honor, unfortunately, the uncle is a part of that system so denying him an honorable death is purely selfish, and in my opinion, the worse ending. To me, it made far more sense to be with him at the end and be the one to preserve his honor while simultaneously throwing away your own.
