I think the violent ending is just a representation of the anxiety you get when you don't open your eyes in the middle of the night. "If I don't open my eyes and make sure nothing is there then something bad will happen" is a common thought everyone has. The ending just materializes that.

I feel like the entity is a reflection of the protagonist. If you listen to how the entity speaks and how they describe themself, they mirror what the protagonist thinks of their everyday mundane life. That desire to find a form for themself manifested strongly in the protag's mind and eventually became their downfall. It's also fear of the dark/unknown. The doorway might be a representation of the protag not knowing how much longer this path they're on will continue. But that's my take.

It doesn’t happen as much anymore, but I still have it happen ever once in a while P.S./Additional Info Edit: An example I have is when I was about 8 or 9, me, my mom, dad, and brother were living in one of those campgrounds that are in city limits, because we moved out of our last house, or we got evicted or something, point is we were living in a campsite that you had to pay for. I had gone into the tent where me and my brother slept, and took a nap, next thing I know, I’m awake two-ish hours later energized and well rested, and it felt like I had blinked once, and all of a sudden two hours had passed, apparently I was in like level 6, 7, or 8 of the sleep levels, which is considered lien the real deep sleep zone. REM Sleep typically occurs around 2.5-3, and I was over double that. And obviously REM is the level where you dream and shit. TL;DR is, I used to, and still do sometimes fall into such a deep level of sleep where I don’t dream at all. Now I do, but some days I don’t, it’s an off and on thing.

I should clarify, I had said that I don’t really suffer from either Sleep Paralysis or Hypnogogic Hallucinations, although I had said that I hope they aren’t destabilizing your daily life. What I was talking about was my occasional night of sleep where I don’t dream, although it’s an off an on thing. I will say that one time I woke up from a nightmare screaming “I’m UP!” The nightmare was just my mom just repeatedly telling me to get up, and that’s really most of what I can recall, I’m going to make an educated guess and say that it got more and more twisted each time she asked me to though.

Wild Theory I’m about to spout here: What if the protagonist is putting himself through some sort of exposure therapy to get over his fear of the dark. He always closes his door (saftey behavior) and this would explain why he decided to leave it open like a psychopath one night. The entity represents those intrusive thoughts we ALL have about what might happen if we close our eyes (go ahead- if you are in a dark room by yourself right now close your eyes and see how long you can keep them closed (without falling asleep). This phobia of the dark that the protagonist has is so strong that it “creates” a monster that completely represents the phobia

It is terrifying, I experience it 3 times. And the first time was a clawed creature at my bed (like the rake) waiting for me to make a move or any indication of being awake because it’ll rip me apart with it’s claws which like in this game whispered to me. So the creature would try to see if I’m awake by dragging it’s claws down my arms, face, and legs. It actually kinda hurt and I had to force myself not to flinch then the creature would walk away then suddenly sprint at me, like it’s going to jump on my bed but only stopped at my side a few times and getting closer to my side. Then it went away as the sun light up my room. The second time I can’t remember much but I vaguely remember it was about a creature on my bed and waiting for me for something. The third time was a demon like creature trying to kill me but wanted to make a game, if I move I’ll die. So the shadow-like demon would grab my shoulder, runs it’s claws down my arms, grab my face, and once wrapped it claws around my neck. I try the hardest to not move especially when it had it’s claws around my neck. It even got pissed when my sister walked in my room to use my bathroom early in the morning, as evidence by the sound of my door opening, the sounds of someone walking, and a brief light shining in my room as my sister turn on the bathroom lights before closing the door. The whole time the demon just stood still, quietly, and glaring at my sister. It called my sister a bitch for interrupting the game and not acknowledging it and try to go into the bathroom but couldn’t then the demon glance at me with a glare and left.

Answer: Sleep paralysis. I've suffered from it and can tell you that this hits close to the same feeling. For me it was a black shadow with huge deformed eyes staring at me in the corner of my room with the intent of killing me. I saw it in the corner of my eyes and just "knew" that if I looked at it even once, I would die. Paralyzed with fear you could say. This was during high school years when I suffered from depression and stress. To explain sleep paralysis: When you fall asleep, your mind have a "on/off" button for moving your body. It turns it off when you start dreaming so you don't go up running around when you do it in your dream, and turns it on just before you wake up. BUT, when you are so stressed and tired, your mind "forgets" to turn movement back "on", making you paralyzed aka trapped in your own body. In order to make sense of the situation, your mind creates the shadow or something that's stopping you from moving, in my case, something that would kill me if I moved. I remember trying to scream for help (my mother was sleeping on the other side of the wall) only to find out that my mom heard muffled crying and grunting from my room. If you suffer from Sleep paralysis, there is a way, the only way to get out of it. Sleep. Crazy right? How can you go back to sleep when you fear for your life? Because just like in this game, it's all in your mind. Try relaxing, think off something positive ( I thought of being rich and what I would do with all the money) and soon I forgot the shadow and went back to sleep. I don't suffer from it now (thank god) but it will forever be in my mind.

I can see why u say sleep paralysis but i think it's more deep than that I mean, "the door part" explains how most ppl deal with stress -like, this might lead to this or that, but if i don't do it, this might happen. "Look at me" is continuing the door part, ppl don't want to remember hence instead of facing it run from it or try to forget. Also the two ending explains this -when u don't open ur eye it's as if the monter kills you meaning u couldn't face the problem and keep on suffering. -while if u open ur eye, the monster is gone as if the problem u imagined isn't significant. "I search for long but i don't remember how it started" -this could mean not knowing the problem and how the problem initially started. (Sometimes we reaslise a problem but don't know exactly where it started).....this concept is used by many films (like the protagonist dealing with truama). THIS SEEMS THE MAIN POINT BEING ADRRSED.(so i wouldn't go with sleep paralysis🤷) Now i personally would add what the issue/theme actually is "humans forming connection" could mean making friends Then "someone else taught me how to speak and it must have been a challenge" would mean others deal with alot of problem and they over come it "Other screem, or run from me" -this could indicate how other also deal with their problem. -hence the other guy over came his challenge by teaching the monter how to speak and the sleeper overcomes his problem by first acknowledging it by opening his eye. --this could also mean the sleeper sees nothing as he has no connection (no friends)🤷 / or as i said the problem being not significant. (The door part also adds to the friend thoery) "The monster says he is scared of the door yet he still wants to go inside it" -this could mean about making new friends. Most ppl are scared of it, yet they still want to do it. "Do i turn the doornub let or right do i push or pull" -this could be how to interact with the friend like what words to say. "What if the door closes or the wind closes it" -sometimes, we don't want to deal with some friends and search for ways out (excuses to leave). What if the excuses doesn't work (would be the wind closing the door). "After i enter should i close the door as it would be rude to leave it open" -well this would mean should i stop making ways out (excuses) as it is not good in making friends. "The sleeper in the beginning not being able to sleep" -this could mean not being able to make friends.

Few months ago I experienced a sleep paralysis demon for the first time. I woke up with this feeling of intense pressure on my chest, and a figure straddling me, it's head right up close to my face and it's long hair draping over me. It felt like being nose to nose with this figure and I guess I imagined them breathing menacingly, the sound being loud in my ears due to it being so close. I couldn't see a face, it felt like a demonic presence. My partner slept beside me and I guess my half awake brain could only reason that it must be her. The hallucination then morphed to her still on top of me but, umm, doing something else to me 😂👀 but It was still terrifying, like wtf am I being r*ped by the girl from The Ring 😂😅 It was really fucked up, I guess my mind could only reason that it was my partner on top of me, and why else would she be on top of me other than for that? I eventually was able to force myself up and catch my breath, looking over at my sleeping gf sus AF 😂 Was messed up and I hope never to experience it again.

I had sleep paralysis once in my life. I knew about it because just a couple of days prior i read something about it. However still I was scared beyond believe despite knowing how irrational it was. similary I was too scared to open my Eyes and just hoped that I would fall back asleep what happend after some time. Still I was an frightening expirence how "it" crawled up from the floor and grabbed me with its many extremities. The interesting thing was despite not seeing it, I knew exactly how it locked like. Despite not moving I had the sensation of being pulled out of my bed. Just for the people that wonder what they should do if they experience it. I will go into a bit more detail what exactly sleep paralysis is. It comes down to pretty much that your body is thinking you are asleep while your brain still being awake. Your body will protect you from sleep walking by paralysing your body while you are asleep. So you dont get hurt while dreaming you are running. Dont ask me why most times if sleep paralysis happens most people have some kind of frightening entity beside them. However to escape you need to break of paralysis moving your eyes doesnt work because its normal that the eyes move in rem sleep what is pretty much what is happening. Try to move your fingers and toes and then legs and arms till you move a little bit and after some time you will be able to wake up and then hopefully the rem phase should be over and the entity gone. tldr: if you have sleep paralysis try moving your fingers, legs, arms till you wake up or ignore it till you can fall asleep proper.

I feel like I can relate to a lot of what it says, honestly. I don't really know what I am, and I'm highly reliant on others for validation. I almost feel liked I'd want to tell it what it looks like, just so it could know what it was. And who knows, maybe it could do the same in return. Of course, maybe hearing that would *actually* put it ease just enough to show itself for a fraction of a second. In the ending where the protagonist has their eyes forced open, they shut them again and keep them closed while it beats them to death rather than looking at it again. Who knows how it would react if you voluntarily opened your eyes, saw it, and started screaming? Maybe it would accept that as an honest reaction, or maybe it would lose control and tear you limb from limb.

Experience like this is the worst, I frequently hear some sort of whispering that is unintelligible which gets bigger and smaller depending on my stress level and the quietness of my room. It's so scary and anxiety inducing. Due to my fear of having sleep paralysis and other weird stuff during sleeping, I always sleep with my lights on and doors closed. These gives me a sense of protection, and also reduces the chance of me being awake, still stuck in a dream, but not being able to move my body.

Couple things: First, my theory is that the protagonist is actually in a coma, having some form of twisted nightmare or dream. He desperately tries to remember what happened, and in turn, this happens, and the entity is himself, trying to remember who and what he is. Second, I've seen a couple comments about being scared by the door knock. I've done this thing where I'm able to tell if the knock comes from my device or from the door. Third, I haven't had sleep paralysis, nor have I had anything similar, but, I do get these dreams, which me and my family call "Prophetic Dreams", and thinking about the entity reminded me of them. They kind of have, "criteria", in a sense as in Place/Setting Other people Event But, the other people part is, a bit creepy to be fair. They aren't, unique. They aren't, distinct. They are similar to the entity. They have no face. It's completely smooth over, no nose, no eyes, nothing. Not even any ears. And, not to mention, these "Prophetic Dreams" are real events that happen, usually years into the future. I don't know how or why, I just get them. It's weird.

Nah because this actually happened to me once in April 2017. So I was sleeping peacefully and woke up a bit in my dream and saw the clock. The time was moving rapidly and I just looked out my window. My room in my dream was the same in reality. The day went out and night came in and I lay down on my bed as it got dark. Then a tall figure came in my room somehow and locked the door. I flipping screamed and began to attack it. It all felt real. Too real and it held me down on my bed with my back facing them. It spoke to me like "I am tired of you running away. I need your negativity for myself. The more you get scared, the more you feed me. The more I grow and grow to control you more and more. Everyday. Every night. This is the only way to get you more afraid of sleeping... I hate your life. I want your own life." Then it stuck like 6 tentacle like limbs on my back and began to suck. It felt so terrible and fell in paralysis. I tried to move but I felt that tingly feeling all over my body. Then cops came by in the house and shouted "LET GO OF HER! OPEN THE DOOR!" It sounded so real and loud. The banging of the door and lights showing on the tiny openings of the door. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't. I looked at the clock. It's now 3:45am. Then another figure appeared and said, "Let her go you beast! You will now be perished from her world for good!" Then the beast screamed and let's go of me to attack the other anomaly and the door opened and I then woken up. In the same position as I was in my dream. Couldn't move. Couldn't speak. Paralysis at its finest. I looked at the clock. In reality, the time was 3:45am. The same time it was in my dream. I then moved as I can to my pillow and try to cover myself in my blankets. I don't believe in religion but I think a guardian angel saved me because the position I was in, it can hurt me badly. I can still feel where the beast's limbs were at and I fear seeing it again.

My theory is: The shadow entity is his Inner self. Everytime someone looks at him he disappears, which indicates: he can't show who he really is and how he feels and needs to put on a mask. It "proofs" my point, when the entity tells him to open his eyes. His inner self tells him that he needs to stop and act like who he really is or else it's too late. You can tell at the end that the entity did some last effort to prevent it from happen, which means he tried to fight it. But as the protagonist still didn't want to open his eyes it gave up and the protagonists mind broke.
