before this update, the mice/mouses used to be people that got turned into them. like that prankster from one of the first story. The scientist also noticed that the mouses tried to communicate with them, asking for help. Looks like someone was smart enough to be considered "king" to gather everyone that got turned and leading towards the building to seek revenge. Sucks that they didn't get a good ending on their end. AH and also noticed in the description that they want the mouses DEAD immediately, just so they aren't able to tell what happen to them because of the company. so it doesn't Rat them out.

Haven't finished watching the whole video yet, but I'm wondering if the 'Mouse King' is a bit of a reference to the base game, since you get turned into a mouse if you fail. Makes me wonder if the Mouse King was a member of the HSH company who rallied all the other transformed mice to 'rise up against their oppressors' lol. It'd make sense too w/ the HSH's response too being absolute revulsion to these rats (literally and figuratively 🤣)
@excogitatezenzizenzizenzic8950Ай бұрын
While there’s probably some tie in to the base game the Mouse King is actually a reference to the Christmas ballet The Nutcracker where he is the main antagonist. However he probably got so powerful in the first place because HSH keeps turning people into mice.

Lussi is one I heard about as a kid. She is a gyger(female troll) who comes knocking when it's the coldest and darkest in December(Lussi langnatt) to check if people are ready for Christmas. Lots of European folk lore and traditions in this DLC. Ogress/yulemen/yulecat are all references to Nordic folklore Icelandic specifically. The hunt is actually a large amalgamation of European folk traditions, who leads the hunt is varied but it is a convoy of ghosts leading a hunt in the middle of a storm, hence the wights it leaves behind. Not all are folk related though. The time wisps are the ghosts Scrooge sees in a Christmas Carol. Hence people seeing their own death and wanting to change. The mouse king is a reference to The Nutcracker (the ballet, often performed at Christmas) where he is the main antagonist Then you have the obvious ones like The Polar Express/Santa/Krampus and others people have mentioned like the welsh horse. I was surprised to learn he wasn't a native English speaker, but I have a Dutch friend who did the same thing. (I believe my friend picked it up watching English videos or smtn like that) I guess it isn't uncommon for people in Scandinavia to pick up English from the internet, and speak it like a native? I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in other places as well lol.

A lot of people in my generation are self-taught. We learned by watching films and anime that weren't all that widespread and troubleshooting games, because back in the day they were distributed on discs and there were no such things as "online tech support", if you got a bad copy - you had to fix it yourself, and that often meant looking for help on forums, wikis and such, so - needing to know english on at least basic level.

Eastern European here, I mostly taught myself as well by consuming western media and eventually talking to natives online. I did actually go to a good-enough school that would have taught me, but we only added English to our curriculum in the last 4 years, and by then I was already fully able to read and write, and I didn't like that they were teaching us British English, so I mostly stuck with learning American pronunciation on my own.

I have been wondering what accent that was, I wouldn't have guessed non native though.

Watching the credits and seeing that Trevor Henderson provided some artwork for this DLC is pretty exciting. His unnerving horror art is to notch.

there's something in being a character that already has ties with the organisation in this DLC that makes it quite fun, it gives it more "life" indirectly by having Carol interact with Rebecca as if they're old colleagues/friends as well as her other colleague, i really liked that touch!

"Keep the cheer level up by answering the calls correctly" Well, except the calls where the correct answer is that they're basically fucked (e.g. the one whose daughter got taken by the Sinner). Don't see how that's going to increase the cheer levels lol

You seemed to have gotten the Avalanche call wrong because you did not listen to the background noises. If it was a Mountain Warlock the sound would have assisted you in distinguishing it from the avalanche (hence why it has a sound file).
@TuskenАй бұрын
With the avalanche call, I thought it was a mountain warlock due to the fact that the caller said that their home was at the foot of the mountain. A mountain warlock, being highly territorial as described in game, would likely not take too kindly to people living near his mountain
@zerrodefexАй бұрын
Although you'd think the mountain warlock would have done something before they finished building a house there.
@TheOnlyMrFakeАй бұрын
Unless you live at the foot of a mountain (or partway up on it) you'll never risk an avalanche anyway. The reason to pick avalanche for the first two calls where Manly chose wrong is that there's nothing actually pointing towards it being the mountain warlock aside from the avalanche. The actual mountain warlock call had the mountain warlock chanting in the background. (Also, the caller mentioned that he thought it was an avalanche, which for a savvy player is a clue that it's not since the point of the game is to figure it out rather than being told what it is.)

Oh hell yeah! HSH captured my heart the first time I watched it and this holiday DLC is splendid. The absolute tension of the cheer bar is way scarier than waiting for a "Hey you did a bad" call and I love it. I love it I love it.

One of the things I love the most about this game is a lot of the people in the credits scene are probably friends! HSH was initially a creative labor of love to fill a fae-sized gap in the creator's life after the troupe they were in disbanded. It's amazing what human relationships can inspire.

Yay!! I’m happy you came back to this. This game is actually pretty neat. I really appreciate you Let’s Players, and the game devs who don’t mind you showing us the games. Not gonna lie… I wanna hear the stories that these games have, but I don’t necessarily always want to play them myself (either I can’t always afford to or I don’t have the skills/ability to play them myself). I get to enjoy the story, their artwork gets a bigger audience than it may normally (I wouldn’t have heard of like 90% of the games you play if you didn’t play them lol), and you get content. I think it’s a fairly decent deal. Hope you’re doing well, Manly. Dont forget to take time for yourself if you ever need it. ❤

49:47 the saint is just Sinterklaas. Dutch (and probably more parts of the world) saint that we have instead of santa clause. The white horse, red robes and hat, what seems to be a staff in his hand in the picture. And giving gifts at the door (Idk about other households but at mine the burlap sack with gifts would be dropped off at the front door)

*Scary Door Narrator Voice* You're taking a vacation from normalcy after finishing an 8 hour video about "Darkwood" when you hit refresh and notice a new video notification. The video, a call center where the screen is stained with mystery, and there's also some mystery emails and some calls with more mystery. Your password may not open the ??? folder because someone smeared mystery on the folder, but it will open... The Home Safety Hotline.

Pretty sure the mouse king is one od the failed employees since the bad ending in the original game turns you into a mouse and the mouse king's description makes it seem like he's the most dangerous thing in the world even though it's just a smart rat
@getsu0Ай бұрын
I like how this contrasts with the base game. In the base game, the typical fae creatures and threats seem to be doing well, thriving, relatively minding their own business. But the Yule time faeries are oppurtunistic, or seem like the fae feast, something benevolent that's just confusing and shocking to humans. Many of them take advantage of the darkness, or seem like they fulfill some purpose once potential end times come, wreaking havoc, remediation of the twilight, small gestures, preying on mortals and other fae active around the time. It's like a temporal biome, one of extremes and competition. Very cool.
