The real question: how much canned air was used to get the dust off this beauty? Thanks for reviewing a case that should be considered to set the bar, albeit high.

This is the case that I'm using right now. I've had it new since 2012. Its a fantastic case. The large fans are super quiet and the design is awesome. That side fan is a God send for cooling sli cards. I was rockin tri sli 680s there for a few years and now 1080 sli. Its tall. Its big. Its roomy. Its great. I also have a water cooling setup with a 360 radiator along the top. The filters are excellent. Maybe once every 6 months it gets a serious blow out just for giggles. About that front removable filter. I just soak it in hot soapy water without pulling it apart. Then reverse flush warm water through it and hair dryer it dry. I use the stock fans on the front and the side. I moved the fan from the top and made a bracket and have it above the side fan so over the CPU and VRM sinks. I still have the stock rear fan in place and have 3x 120mm on the radiator at the top. Ive set the speed in the bios to have positive pressure. I found with negative pressure dust was coming in from the gaps instead of being filtered. Great review as always mate.

What kind of rad have you? I have an HAF 912+, but I had to externally mount a 60 mm thick radiator on top of it, with fans inside the case. Definitely function over form. I love the style, I use it for movies so I need those drive, I cannot "up"grade the case. Except maybe for the HAF X... The only other case for me would be an Origin PC case, which they don't sell separately.

ThunderGoatz For me because none of them allow optical drives. I use 2 of them fo movies, occasionally ripping music and 2 of them are occupied by a pump+reservoir combo. I could live with only 3 bays, but 1 is the bare minimum although I should replace the reservoir (I love that look).

ThunderGoatz solid front panel. My HAF 912+ has a 200 mm fan AND 4 5,25" bay. The Define R6, being developed for silence, needs 3 120 mm fans and I'm not sure the hairflow is better because the front is a solid panel and breath from the side. I mean, I'd better stay with what I have.

This vid reminded me of my original Cooler Master Stacker, very early production (serial #101) that had to come from Cooler Master direct in 2004. It was an ATX/BTX case that changes were made before it went into full production, so it is a very rare bird. "Cable management" wasn't a thing, and it was one of the very first cases available with an optional acrylic side panel, dual power supply mounting (bottom, it what?) and the entire front was made of 11 5 1/4" bays you used cages and adapters for. It still is in use as a NAS/PLEX server, although it's seen extensive mods for what was then early high-end water cooling.

I was wondering if somebody else would mention it. I still run my current system in a well kept ST-101 (I did manage to destroy one row of its USB connectors at the front :( ) and with every new upgrade I go on a lookout to try to find something better and after a few days of researching I settle on - thoroughly cleaning it and reusing it for my new build. I'll be upgrading my PC by the end of the year and so far it seems that it will be reincarnated for another cycle. Not many cases will live to be 15 years in service.

I bought this case 8 years ago, and next to the harddrive it is the only 'part' i still use of that build. It currently holds a i7-7700K with Noctua NH-D15(2-Fan Setup) and a GTX 1080 8GB(Aorus 11gpbs). Because of the large width of this GPU i had to remove the shroud attached to the side-panel for it to fit, and the GPU bracket itself i never used. Over the years i have only had to replace 1 case fan(back one) which was easy to do. This case started out with a SLI setup(2x GTX 460 2GB) and was perfectly able to cool both GPU's well enough so that the top card went no higher then 80 C. If you are quickly annoyed by loud fans and plan to have this case in close proximity during quiet times, i would recommend having either a fan controller or similar functionality on your motherboard. Since i removed the side-panel shroud and changed the orientation of my CPU Cooler by 90 degrees, the air now flows vertically from bottom to top instead of front to back. The airflow seems substantially better and i can get away with literally having only a single case fan(Side panel fan) switched on and still have good enough temperatures during heavy load for the GPU boost to kick in. As a bonus it also really cut down on the amount of dust the case accumulates, and since i don't have the wheels attached dust does not enter through the bottom either. Would buy it again:)

It was so terifficly good that after buying my own, which i will never replace on my main pc, i gifted one to my father for christmass, wich he also will never replace. Even modern high end stuff like the C700P and the Meshify 2 XL lack simple yet important features, wich i have not only come to appreciate in the HAF-X but i also want from any case and couldn't imagine not having. It starts at the wheels that make life indescribably easier every single time i take the pc out for cleaning or upgrading. It continues over the so many hard drive cages that i had never to stop for a second and think before buying more drives. I have 4 SSDs installed permanently plus the HAF-X has 2 hotswap drive slots beneath the 4 optical drive bays, that come in extremely handy for my external backup HDDs. Speaking of the optical drive bays i have a touch screen fan controller on the top slot, which makes it look even more like an 80s toy robot, and in the second slot a dvd drive for all my old games, and i could even mount simultaniously a drive bay reservoir if i was doing watercooling in it. It ends with the overall size and ease of use. Things like having a ton of space to build in easily, or having front filters that are easy to remove and put back in for regular cleaning and having no compatibility issues with virtually any motherboard or cooler. And all of this is still before we start talking about the 230mm front intake, 200mm side intake, 2x 200mm top exhaust and 140mm rear exhaust fans, wich i have always at the lowest setting, making the pc very quiet and still never getting really hot under any load while gaming. Essentually it's the top end. I don't know if there was anything more practical with more usefull features than this in the past, but this one case comes close to perfection in almost every single possible way. The only 2 downsides that i have experienced with this case is front io being part of the top panel, making it a bit difficult to open the top for cleaning and demanding more attention to not strip the cables and the holes of the side panels not aligning perfectly, so i have to keep pressure on the sides to screw in the thumb screws. Frankly there is no other case on the market that comes even close to the quality of life features that the HAF-X has. It's by far the best case that i had ever the pleasure to build a pc in and i highly doubt that there will be another one of these fully performance, building and maintainance focused cases out there. It's simple things that case manufacturers are afraid of doing nowadays, especially in such a good combination and i don't understand why there is not even one single case like this on the market today.

My dad used it for a handful of years after that, and I just got it back last year for an X570 Build now that I'm not moving my PC as much as I was back then. Pretty sure my step-father threw out my box with all the added accessories; no longer have the gpu support, gpu fan shroud, side fan shroud, hot swap panel / trays, or the caster wheels. I've bought this case in 2011 for my first proper PC build and I'm still using it in 2022 for my current configuration (i5 12400F + RTX 3080)! And I'm not planning to change it exactly because if the airflow advantage it has over counterparts. Modern cases with side panels that feature a tempered glass are obviously very good for showcasing (no pun intended) your build, but questionable in terms of GPU cooling efficiency - as noted in the video, you need to do some research to figure out if the cooling is good in a particular product you've set your eyes on. As for the dust filter at the bottom - I have one in my case, have no idea why Steve got the one that doesn't have it. And overall dust accumulation inside the case isn't bad either: all major dust particles are being caught in the filters so the very small dust pieces that managed to leak are very easy to clean with compressed air, blower or something similar. All in all this is a fantastic, very practical case for those who value thermals over aesthetics, like I do, highly recommend it after more than 10 years of using!

@JonsReef I also keep my 2006 case, it's white, plastic and honestly looks pretty good for the time, a friend of my dads gave it to us (i was born in 2000 btw). My dad cut the side panel and bolted an acrylic side panel on, the 30ish bolts everywhere look too cool. It even has decent airflow after I adjusted things. I had the same PC from 2007 to 2018 when I got an RX 480 second hand and an R5 2600, great mobo and PSU (spent way too much on those). I like the ugliness of it.

@Cybolic6 жыл бұрын
Yup, the HAF X is a great case. Mine is still in use, on 24/7 and with Demcifilter filters everywhere the dust and cleaning really isn't much of an issue. Switching the fans to back/back-top pull and front/side/front-top push i get 43-46° average temperatures under CPU load and about 55° under GPU load. Granted, there are a lot of Noctua fans in there now, but the performance is generally fantastic with minimal noise (roughly 30 dB). Seeing as I also need my blu-ray drive and my BitFenix fan controller (pretty good Linux support on that), I really don't see any need to "upgrade" to a newer case.

Still loving mine in 2020, Has been home to many of my builds. will be using this for my new build, ryzen9 3900x rtx 3080. As for cleaning once every 6 months I just wheel it outside and give it a good cleaning using my air compressor. No need to remove filters. 5 mins and done. I love the big and rugged style compared to anything out now.

It's a great case which I'm still using and about to put new hardware in. Bottom dust filter is there. The only problem I have with it is its sheer size and weight (fully packed). My gaming den is upstairs and the stairs are quite narrow and steep, so you can't exactly put it under your arm and carry it up - you have to raise it overhead - which is easier said than done considering how bulky it is :) It's like pushing a cow up a staircase.

I bought the CM HAF X for my machine because I'm not one for tempered glass or really RGB (even though RGB can look nice just not a priority). I like at least 2 5.25inch bays for my card reader and Blu-Ray drive, I also use up most of the HDD bays in that case too. Also the newer models have a bottom dust filter, and cleaning is as simple as taking a small handheld dust buster vaccume and just sucking the dust off the mesh on the front and side while the machine is off.

In 2010 I purchased my first decent case...I bought a HAF 932 and like the HAF X it has a style of its own both ugly and beautiful. After 8 years of service in two PC builds its three 230mm fans are finally dying, the side panel fan at the GPU stops multiple times a day, the front red LED fan stops at least once a week. I've pulled the fans and lubricated them but that only worked for maybe a week before they started locking up again. Last summer two of the USB ports on the front panel failed and I had to order a replacement panel from Cooler Master. After 8 years my loved HAF 932 is breaking down and I've ordered a Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 for $125 to replace it that includes a MasterLiquid 240 AIO with the case purchase. I'm sad to see my HAF 932 ending its life but I do plan to keep it and maybe reuse it in a future build if I can replace all three 230mm fans. I'm hoping the Mastercase will provide at least decent air flow but I'll miss the side panel fan cooling my GPU. Cooler Master really needs to think about a new modern HAF line that includes real high air flow again. I do have to admit despite my efforts there is dust buildup on the case exterior that I periodically brush off with a small paintbrush into the vacuum hose...no its not a Dyson. :P
@nameresu4 жыл бұрын
There is 200 mm fans available to buy, plus you could use 140 or 120 up front, two 140 or 120 at the top, and up to four 120mm fans on the side.
@Jennifur684 жыл бұрын
@@nameresu I know I could have replaced the fans but by the time I replaced them I'd be looking at nearly the cost of a new case. Plus as much as I liked the HAF 932 it was a big, heavy and dusty case. A ten year old case lacks a lot of features I expect on modern cases these days so in the end it was really just time for a case upgrade, the failing fans just pushed me to actually do it. I'm happy with my new MasterCase Pro 5 and I'll either use the HAF for someone else's PC build or maybe make it into a NAS machine since it has a lot of 3.5" drive bays.

First time i seen the case. I personally liked those styles of cases, and i still have my cases from 10 years back, as if you buy decent cases, and you do not care about trends, or designs, you can really keep computer cases along time. The only thing i am pleased about todays cases, are they have turned there back on 5.25 inch bays. Like how many people actually put more then at max two 5.25 drives in any case they had. Nice case, and nice to see its in good condition. Like i said, i never saw that case before, but if i did buy it back then, personally i would still be using it today, as i care not about designs, or trends, like all this glass stuff, and lights people like today. When you buy quality it lasts, and for me, if i had brought a case like this back then, i would still be using it.

Another Haf X owner here. Fair review, other than the dust portion. The bottom PSU portion does come with a dust filter, but I'm guessing yours was missing. I live in the desert and barely have any dust even after 6 months. Dust is not a big problem for this case at all, but yes, getting to parts of the case to clean it is difficult. I also don't quite get the noise portion. I guess those other cases are whisper quiet because I really don't hear mine at all even when I'm close to it, albeit my setup isn't close to me. It is true that if I were buying a case today I wouldn't get this one. There are better options, but seeing as I already own one, it's still fantastic, and the fact that I do not see my PC as some "stylish centerpiece", I don't envision myself replacing it any time soon.

You can have both of those ducts installed at the same time 3:40. I had been using the HAF-X from 2014 until about October of 2017. I had both ducts installed. I loved that case, the cooling was phenomenal. I just didn't like how heavy and bulky it was when I needed to drag it outside to blow the dust off, so I switched to the Enthoo Luxe TG. My thermals have not been affected, and I now have more easily removable dust filters. Also should note, I'm writing this comment at the 3:40 mark (cardinal sin, I know).

Before HAF X, there was an original HAF 932, and it was, an is, better, than X 1. you could have mounted not only 200mm fan on the side, but 4 120mm fans. Gives you a lot of options, like a two 240 radiators on the side/ 2. it had a lot more space above the motherboard, because of the ability to run PSU above or below. Top of the case had the mounts for 140 and 120mm fans, so now you can fit fattiest radiators up top inside the case, and even the 360 one. 3. it even had fan mount at the bottom, you could also put a radiator there. 4. there was no plastic at the exaust at the top, so it had much better airflow. 5. there was a special hole at the top of the case, to fill water tank, that mounted inside 5.25" drive bays. The only downside now that there is no psu shroud (who cares?), and it was simple gray iniside. But gray was fixed in 932 advanced. Used it since 2009 to 2016, changed to NZXT H630, but now I think that HAF932 was better than NZXT. No useless features, just pure performance. 2009 cablemanagement dose not look much different, than today's. yadi.sk/a/Y2imkx5A3YJPYa/5b2e9a760320f1705f0bff2f

With 2 120 intake in the front, 1 140 side intake, and a 200 mm top exhaust (cooler is in top exhaust config) this thing is a cooling beast. Considering how old this case is, it wasn't even that hard to build in and I'm seriously impressed. I wish we took our modern refinements in cases and applied it to HAF designs.

Loved the HAF range. Still have both the HAF X (on wheels) and HAF XB EVO cube. In the HAF X, I ran an Asus X99E-WS motherboard with i7-5960X (stable at 4.5GHz), H100i cooler and EVGA 980Ti SC for a couple of years - no problems at all. Then Threadripper came out last autumn. The X99 went into a HAF XB cube - and still performs very well there. Now the HAF X houses a 1950X with Noctua 14" TR4 air cooler in push/pull - stably overclocked to 4.0Ghz on all 16 cores. As well as a ROG Zenith Extreme board and Zotac 1080Ti. If ever you needed a cooling solution for a beast like Threadripper and an overclocked 1080Ti, the HAF X gave you that in spades. Yes - it has flaws, by modern case standards. But in these days of high-power draw components, I'd go for cooling over RGB bling any day.
