For a minute, I was disappointed that he didn't build a 9x18 block, but hey, he won't reuse any block within the same campaign. So he has to keep the better blocks for the later missions.

The nostalgia is real. Used to fire up this badboy on a friends Win95 or ME mashine back in the days. We were like 10 or even younger and had zero knowladge how to play this. Only thing I rember is houses crashing, burning and people running in circles when you connected roads wierdly. So awesome to see someone play this in 20 fucking 17!

Sounds like my experience haha. I was 9 when I first played it. Though I started looking up cheat codes and that led me to Caesar Heaven, where I learnt about block designs. Got up to Lugdunum with that but could never figure out that mission so young.

We used this type block way back in the day (Late 90's when game came out). 20 house blocks, 22 x 7. A road on each end in the middle extending out to granaries & warehouses. Think a "T" intersection. A 2x2 structure (Temple, theater, etc.) on each side on the lead out road and then a market on either side behind those buildings. And behind that granaries and warehouse(s) (If needed) on the farm end) and warehouses on your industrial end. Works real well, great even when you get gatehouses.

Excellent city-building, I greatly appreciate that you play through Caesar III again :) One very minor thing though - have you ever tried to "challenge" yourself by building a city with no houses remaining in the lowest level in Pharaoh/Caesar III? In most cases, I think it is possible to evolve even the houses that are just there to supply the industial areas with workers to decent levels (casae/insulae), and by doing so one can also effectively combat unempolyment (many additional buildings such as schools, temples,... just for 1-2 houses). Maybe that's an idea for future cities?

Long time no see, glad you start to make more city building game lets' plays ^_^. Always the highest quality. And since I know you are very familiar with the base mechanics and advanced ones, I will just leave some higher level guidelines. First of all, industrial consumption is much less than most would expect if you don't plan on using them for export. Remember each workshop can produce enough goods for 20 houses that is 1 set of 1 raw 2 workshops are 40 houses. Simple counting can tell you don't come close to have that many for a very long time, especially when evolving to higher 2x2 size level. This is very helpful at very hard, since you don't need to build that many in the first place, spend less, and less wage per month, as well as worker demand. Don't be afraid of unemployment, since money is tight, cut down the number of workers as many as possible. The other thing is that beware of warehouse to warehouse getting distance, it might not be a problem if you block size is smaller and has very few houses, but for much larger block, it will be an issue, and getting 3 types of goods are most of the time bad idea. And then the obvious not enough room for houses, the idea is always to pack as many as possible, hence using small statues/well to block evolving and slowly increasing population is very crucial at this difficulty. You always lose a lot more in evolving/devolving than slow steady controlled expansion of 1x1 to 2x2, and eliminate the problem very early on. This would also help with the "corner" housing trick, remember houses only need to have 1 tile within 2 tiles radius of a road to get services. Planting houses with blocker objects at the right place and control its "future" growth direction will both save you money as well as increase population density. Good Luck

Like you said, that warehouses should not 'get' things from a large distance and not so many goods So what do you suggest? Like in Lugdunum, The different parts of the city were not connected by road to manage properly. and We need oil and furniture from around. So what can we do? and the housing thing. Do you have any screenshots of residential blocks that I can see for reference. When I try to make space by deleting the house,I end up making a mistake. I also don't understand how to strategically place statues to control their growth.

GamerZakh, my OCD means I have to suggest you delete any single blocks and allow the houses to merge once at large insulae level. The two singles on the bottom left of the rectangle drove me crazy throughout the video. If you deleted the two large insulae you would have been able to place an extra one, also boosting your population while reducing resource consumption. Looking forward to following through the campaign.

I'm only 3 videos in to this series but it does seem Pharaoh is more refined. I am biased because Pharaoh was the only one I ever played but I know the nostalgia that Caesar 3 gets. But all I get from this is simplicity in terms of what the buildings do (less supplies needed), and really weird population behaviour. And the music is nowhere near as good. I know this isn't fair criticism to make considering Pharaoh was made after Caesar 3, but so far i don't see why people prefer Caesar 3 over Pharaoh. I'll keep watching though. I echo what the commenter @niets said. I don't know if you've heard of the Lake District (Cumbria) in England, Zakh, but I was recently there, hiking in the mountains, and on the one rainy day I had, I sat in the car and watched a ton of your videos. It was so, so good.

Hey welcome! Caesar 3 is weird in how buildings find employment. When you place a working building, it sends out a brown walker. That walker just needs to pass 2 houses and that building will have access to your entire population. It doesn't make sense but that's how it works. So in an industrial area, put 2 houses down and that's all you need, as long as your road guarantees all the brown walkers pass that house.
@elangovan499
@elangovan499 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation. That is indeed weird. There is no explanation about it in the game. Was always making houses with two lanes on each side to try and boost the employment and not screw with the walkers path.

I've actually got the first 3 missions on my channel already. Similar opinion to you. Great potential for a revival but the studio ran out of money and it's just not as good as the old Impressions games. No city sounds, voice acting, or military. You don't want to pay for a game just because it's old? It's not like it's full price anymore. You should get it from gog.com. The Steam version doesn't work well with the widescreen mod and if you pirate it you're more likely to get the original CD version, which has unpatched bugs and can have compatibility issues with the widescreen mod and modern Windows. It's usually 5 or 6USD on GOG by default but pretty much every sale it drops to as low as 1 or 2 USD. If you think that's too expensive I can't help you much more.

I am no great player of these games--- I haven't even played Pharaoh at all, I've only sandboxed Poseidon. I cut my teeth on Zeus: Master of Olympus. Caesar III is really kicking my ass. I know about the ZeusHeaven website but my Caesar blocks have a lot of trouble. I rarely get my buildings access to labor! This seems out of the player's control from where I'm sitting, and it comes down to a matter of luck whether the game works properly! Can anyone confirm any small glitches that make Caesar particularly more challenging at times when it should not be, for relatively simple tasks?
@GamerZakh
@GamerZakh 6 жыл бұрын
Caesar III has numerous glitches and bugs that can make things difficult but worker access is a little weird in this game. When you place a working building, it sends out a brown walker citizen. That brown walker needs to pass at least 2 houses and once he does the building he came from can access the entire worker pool. That means, you can have an entire industrial block with 2 tents on it but those buildings can now get workers from your whole city. They did away with this mechanic in Zeus and Emperor because it is a bit silly. You might find this video useful where I go over 10 tips & tricks for Caesar III: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnbZY2ebf56lp6c

@@otvosalexandru3291 I have played this game for 24 years, there is no invasion on Capua. If you want to prove me wrong, go load up the game and tell me what year the invasion comes. The only way to get invaded here is if you go into debt, lose favour, and Caesar sends his police to kill you. Outside of that, zero invasions on Capua.

I'm a bit worried that you'll use all the good blocks on these easy missions leaving you with less effective ones in the difficult ones.

Took me almost 3-4 minutes to realise which map this is... Every time I played it, I'd turn it for 180°. Got so confused...
@GamerZakh
@GamerZakh 7 жыл бұрын
Why do you rotate it? I tend to never rotate the map at all.
@airbornefilip9139
@airbornefilip9139 7 жыл бұрын
Usually I don't rotate maps but concering Capua, I think it's because of the way I 1st met with it. An uncle was showing me the game decade+ ago and had the map rotated so I always ended up doing it. Was confusing to play it otherwise. Another reason is because I find it easier to keep important things in upper part of the screen, be it citybuilding game or RTS. Preferably, I set my base down-left and a goal up-right, whatever it may be.

Haha no worries. I totally get being OCD with city-builders and you aren't the only one that gets annoyed with the things I do. I tend to play more for fun and achieving objectives. Throughout this series I'm going to have some crazy and bad challenges. On mission 6 I draw random roads and turn that into a city! It's a mess but I managed to still win the mission.

I'd rather prefer a playthrough without dumping temples/culture buildings, and no small tents for industry area... more interesting, more realistic !
@GamerZakh
@GamerZakh 7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately if you used block designs they are so efficient that the culture requirements require 'dumps' of kinds. It's because the game doesn't count access, it just counts number of buildings to total population. On mission 6 I don't use a block and it looks natural and realistic, but the walker mechanic makes it almost non-functional haha. Realistic cities don't use walker mechanics.

Thats why I like Emperors way of handling employment. You dont need to manipulate walkers to get buildings employed.

Emperor definitely fixed a lot of the weird issues with the walker system and access. It also counted access way more than just number of building to population.

you don't do your houses two rows deep ? I'm pretty sure a 2x2 square evolves into the biggest villas? Maybe its still too early in the game for that to make a difference, but my hazy childhood memory (and various bouts of nostalgia that caused me to pull this up and play it during my adult life) keeps being like 'hey mannnnnn, didn't you use to put your houses 2 deep?' haha, great video! Thumbs up for dayyssss
