Even though I'm only 17 I have such nostalgia for this game, it was the first strategy game I ever played after my dad introduced it to me when I was about nine. We couldn't afford a new console or computer so I played that and aoe2 for about six years XD

As a historical side note for people complaining about the dominance of Chariots and Chariot Archers in the Bronze Age, they also dominated Bronze Age Warfare in real life history. One of the reasons the Hittites were so dominant superpower at that time and even able to challenge the supremacy of the Egyptians was their more advanced Chariot design.

khatack the slingers are a nice counter to Chariot archers, and fully upgraded they win 1v1 most times. The slingers were historically much more powerful, though, I'm sad they're such a niche unit. They had accuracy up to 200 yards with firepower that rivaled modern pistols. Sucks that they're basically ranged clubmen in this game.

I used to be exp in 2010 mass slingers and Bowman plus calvaries cheap vs expensive but not always work but it is a good mechanism to defend it.

What? No. Single player is available. Campaign is completely playable and you can play single player random maps or scenarios with the AI. This isn't the Beta, it's released. I even play some of the campaign and cast an AI-only match on this channel.

Looks like the brown player should have started saving his ally when you started building towers. Instead he threw away his resources trying to harass you town while his ally got taken out by your ally. Very good lesson on multiplayer strategies.

As a rule of thumb, you don't want to waste resources to create an army unless you're going to use it. If the enemy doesn't attack you, then they're probably focusing on their economy and are a prime target for early raiding, or in the case of Age I, a devastating and potentially game-ending tool-age rush. You should also try to scout your opponents position a lot earlier so you know his hunting and gathering spots for maximum eco-damage.

The problem with your economy is that u dont have enough villagers. Before you advance to tool age you need at least 18 on food and 5 on wood(first go with 18 on food then the last on wood). It makes ur gathering sustainable to keep making villagers. Also as soon as you hit Tool age, with your 18 on food you allready should have 800 food for bronze age and you immediately upgrade to it. After that you make some more villagers and start digging gold in the mean time. And if you actually want the chariot archer rush, then while u going for bronze age you move some villagers from food to wood and upgrade the wheel from market.. :)

Good stuff! Every time the brown threw his chariots at you in the second game I kept on thinking about the definition of insanity. It's crazy that he didn't try to change his strategy at all to counter your towers even after consistently losing each engagement with you. I think he felt he got close with his first attack and figured if he could get lucky then maybe, but yeah, just wow. Oh, and the score on the left hand side is your score (as you know) and the right side is the average of your team. Can't wait to grab this for myself. Not sure when that will be. Maybe the AI will be upgraded by the time I get it haha.

Chariot Archers are very good to rush in bronze, I think the best way to defend from them is to wall-up early and make cavalry and slingers. Otherwise, the only way is to rush harder to kill opponent's economy.

Brown was focusing on targeting your villagers in raids to cripple your economy--because villagers can be built from one place only, targeting them is usually better than targeting enemy soldiers unless you are under attack and need to wipe out the soldiers to get to the villies. That being said, his not helping yellow really cost him the game. He should have raided you and your ally simultaneously to distract you both and force your ally to return his cavalry to his home base. :)

The score on the left is your score and on the right of the / is the team average. The average is used to place who's on top or not of the 'leaderboard' [ingame].

The DE version has been rebalanced though. It takes a lot of changes from Upatch HD and continued to balance things further. The old guides might work in classic mode but not DE mode.

Horse Archers are WAY much better than Chariot Archers but they are TOO expensive because they are an Iron Age unit and you need to protect yourslef enough to reach it.

Love the content, liked and subscribed if only for AOEDE vids: You played so much better game 2...like a boss. Thankfully in both games one enemy did absolutely nothing. Honestly it doesn't take that many games to get decent, Id say practice verses moderate or hard AI. That gives you an easy way to get strats. The score is your score/the team score, so average of teammates score. Aim for 18-22 vils before going to Tool and maybe 25-28 for bronze. Going up earlier will leave you crippled once you age up If youre planning on getting to bronze fast, build your houses and buildings as a wall around your base. In bronze, youve got to play with chariot archers/cavalry, or be able to deal with them Always be producing vils. Once in bronze, I like to build a govermnet center, then build another few TCs and spew out villys for wood and farms

FYI unless you're doing a tool age rush or early eco harassment, Axemen are a worthless investment. As soon as someone hits bronze age they're immediately obsoleted. So unless you're doing a quick rush, just invest in fast bronze age

To get what on screen? I use OBS Studio. I would use Streamlabs OBS but that's still missing some key features that I need like recording separate audio tracks for my voice and game audio.

It depends. AoE 2 DE and AoE 1 DE would just be different games. This AoE 1 DE has major issues with AI and classic mode isn't available for multiplayer or campaigns yet. If you're not rushing, I'd wait for classic mode at least.

I'm in no way a pro player but I did notice that your tower placement is a bit weird, shouldn't they placed at choke points or right next to where your villagers are working? Yours seemed a little wayward

Ah it's because of game 1 where the chariot archers ran past everything and got me from the back. So in game 2, instead of focusing on choke points, I was building a killing field where I could retreat my villagers through the towers, luring the chariots to their death.

When you have so many factions, if you make every unit look different it becomes very difficult to recognise them as players. Imagine if the Settler in Civilization looked different for every single civ. It would be super confusing trying to recognise whose settler or builder is whose or even if they are settlers. Now imagine in an 8-player free for all and all 8 factions send a mix of short swordsmen, broad swordsmen, and long swordsmen since they're all at different tech levels, each one looking different to 8 different civs. It'd be impossible to know what's going on. The solution is to make the design all the same so you can just look at colours. Easy to see red, blue, yellow, etc. You can make units look different if you limit the number of civs. It works in Starcraft because there's only 3. Same in Age of Mythology, only 3 or 4. Once you get to 10+ civs, in this case 12, it becomes too much visual information.

@@karwinchau4684 Yeah it's nice to see generally, but you can't do it too much. Even in AoE 2 generally it's just the unique units that look different. Militia look the same across all civs for example.

Yes you do, though they have glitched out once in a while. Once I set some units to control group 22 somehow, if only I had a '22' key on my keyboard haha. Happens rarely though.

They'll be completely different games, it's really up to you.

If you want to rush to Bronze Age, you'll want a bigger economy before clicking up to Tool Age. Fast Bronze works a lot like Fast Castle in AoE II, look up a guide for that and you should be fine. It's a risk, but with around 20-25 pop you should be able to build stables and a market immediately after advancing to tool, and click to bronze immediately after that while having zero town center idle time. Obviously if you try this, you're super vulnerable to a tool age rush.

Lag can be bad but it's because I'm playing with people from all over the world. Ping is based on where the players are, but overall it's quite stable.

Oh in the original AoE 1 you couldn't have building waypoints, so oldies would continue playing like that. In the definitive edition mode, you can have building rallies to gather your units somewhere when they spawned.

I was trying the tactic that I saw in the first game, plus I picked Assyrian because I wanted to go for archers, then I noticed he wasn't getting upgrades, so I knew my chariots were better than his. Plus, don't camel riders cost gold? I was struggling to find my gold at all.

Your resource gathering strategy really sucks. 20 Villagers on resources would have given you the freedom to focus on an army. Also exploration is overrated. Get the resources and a huge army with technological advancement to back it and you are good. But your strategy sucks. Good video though. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Though you left me pulling my hair.

What do you mean? You can buy the game now and play it, it's released. You need an Xbox Live account to just log into the game, but it's not like a subscription or anything. Just make an account and sign in, like making a Paradox account to sign in to Paradox games.
