How can we best teach with games?
This week the Forum approaches the holiday season in a playful spirit. A panel of faculty and researchers who teach with games will be our guests: Depauw University professor Harry Brown, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine professor Ryan Downey, Dr. Karl Kapp, and Forum favorite Ruben Puentedura.

I like the idea of gamification and using actual games within education because from my experience, it really increases engagement and enhances emotional connection. Thank you for covering this helpful topic. Great video as usual Bryan. Happy holidays.

Do you help faculty gamify their classes? All holiday best to you and yours.

@@BryanAlexander Interestingly, no, at least not specifically. I have presented on Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle and have talked about the huge value that comes from creating more hands-on learning, such as through role-play, simulations, and games. The enhanced emotional connection that games/gamification can provide is an educational multiplier.

@@sovorel-EDU It can be hard to get faculty interested in doing games and gamification. Next semester I'm teaching my gaming in higher ed class again, and am rethinking gamification in it. Might gamify the class itself, although there are limits, since it's a grad seminar.

@@BryanAlexander Yes, I agree. It takes a certain type of instructor to see the potential. I think it would be great to gamify the class on gamification. Be sure to report on that. Your Future Trends Forum on this has inspired me and I am now working on a video on how to use AI to help with adding games and gamification for a course or course content.
