Being born in ‘97 and growing up playing on my brothers N64 I have to say I’m thankful for Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64. Those were my two most played games when I was just a wee lad in the basement at my parents sitting cross legged staring at the TV for hours. I still remember all the times my brother would help me out or race against me and I have so many fantastic memories with that. Those two games got me into gaming and Mario Kart 64 is still my favorite game of all time.

I'm thankful for the original Silent Hill 2. I played it at a time when I felt lost, abused, empty and ashamed. Went in expecting to be scared witless (I was) and just kind of escape into a fictional nightmare instead of my very real one. I ended up seeing more of myself reflected in the game than I wanted or anticipated to. I became so wrapped up in the atmosphere, story, music and characters and felt a sort of catharsis when the credits started to roll. That game really made me feel less isolated and alone in my trauma. I still put on the soundtrack when I'm feeling down. Akira Yamaoka created such a hauntingly beautiful and oddly calming score for that game. I still haven't played the remake because I know it'll be an emotional rollercoaster.

I'm thankful for Super Mario World on the SNES. It was the first game I played (and the last for a long time, because my parents didn't like how much I liked it 🤣), but it got me into gaming, and sparked a love that I still carry with me today. I'm also thankful for Pokemon Yellow and The Legend of Zelda, as they both introduced me at a young age to a whole new genre of gaming. Finally, I'm grateful for Ys 8, as it has broadened my love for the series, and it is now a first day must buy for me🥰 Wonderful video as always! I'm sure we're all grateful for you!!

I noticed that you are going more into these topics that relate to every gamer here. I love it a lot. I'm thankful for retro games that I can replay now with save states & many game genie codes to them to make the experience a lot easier for me to actually beat majority of said games that I couldn't beat back in the day. So I will list you a couple here. Games like After Burner (Sega Master System) R-Type (Sega Master System) Double Dragon 2 (Nes) Ninja Gaiden (Nes) Black Belt (Sega Master System) Streets of Rage 3 (Sega Genesis) So these type of games when is was basically really hard to beat in 1 sitting back in the day.

Hey Paige, nice list thanks for sharing! I love the idea for this video. There's a lot of games I could mention, but there are two that I would say I'm truly thankful for. Tales of Symphonia was the first game where I fell in love with every aspect of it. I was 10 when I got it for Christmas back in 2003, and I loved the beautiful art style, the twists and turns in the story (Kratos being Lloyd's dad is so obvious now, but back then it blew my mind 😂). Also, the music fills me with so much serotonin to this day! I'll put on ambience videos from it while lesson planning for work, or to help me sleep. It was my introduction to JRPGs and Bandai Namco Studios. My second game has to be Persona 4 Golden. I was hitting a wall with gaming where I couldn't get into anything new and I wondered if I was getting bored with games. Then I tried P4G out in January because it was on GamePass and I thought why not. I instantly fell in love with the characters, the cozy setting, and the murder mystery! It instantly revitalized my love of gaming and proved there are so many beautiful games out there still to discover. But then Game Pass took it off right when I was about to beat it and I had over 80 hours into it...

You mentioned DBZ Kakarot and it's funny that you mentioned it since Dragon Ball Z particular Vegeta's "hang in there Kakarot, you are number one speech" made me realize how the past 9 years of my life I was brainwashed and a borderline yandere over this one dude online who I thought was my friend but was nothing more than a two faced liar who tried to sound like he was smarter than he actually was. Vegeta's speech made me realize that I shouldn't spend my time being obessesed with trying to impress others and look for approval. I normally don't announce that I cry to scenes in fiction but that scene did it. I will admit, there are some games stories I am thankful for, stuff like the Legacy of Kain games particularly Soul Reaver 2. That game in a lot of ways showed what honesty, curosity and integrity can be a beautiful thing in people even if most people like to say they practice them but not really. Raziel is a character I should geniunely hate with a passion but he is someone I want to root for and see win which is a testament to the writing and Michael Bell's performance even Defiance's opening cutscene still rings with me now, where Kain says "should I continue rule over a corrupt and failing empire or challenge the fates for something better?" The Last of Us' story and the game came out when I turned 18 and graduated high school so seeing the moral ambiguity and the stuff Joel would do for Ellie was pretty poigant to see for 18 year old me at the time. I also like the older Thief's game's character of Garrett who also taught me that some people are just wired to be introverted and only care about certain people. This might a weird one and while I don't think the game is great, I do think Assassin's Creed 1's line of, "it must be knowledge that frees them not force" is something I still think is well written to this day. The gameplay might not be great but I enjoyed Altair's conversations he had with his targets in that game. I wish conversations on the internet played out like that where it's two people who have differing viewpoints but neither chastise each other for being right or wrong and both parties believe in what they do until the end. There's lots of games I love for the gameplay and but I think this comment has gone on for long enough. Not so sure if I'm "thankful" for them but I did learn some lessons from a few of these games.
@femtrooperАй бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean. Some game I love but I’m not necessarily thankful for them.

Revisiting a fun topic! Here are two I didn't mention last time. Street Fighter II. I'm not really a fighting game person, but as teenagers me and my brother spent so much time playing this together, it was really nice bonding time which we might not have had otherwise, with me being a bookish dork and him being a rough-and-tumble jock. Morrowind, for a silly reason. Brace yourself. When I was travelling overseas alone about 10 years ago, I found myself getting overwhelmed and anxious in this strange city. I didn't know how to find or get anything that I needed, and I wanted to cry. But then I stood and looked at the sea and told myself "if you can go from being some random guy fresh off the prison boat in Seyda Neen all the way to uniting the three houses against a common enemy to save the province of Vvardenfell, you can find groceries in an Italian city." XD It genuinely helped me feel like I could cope, silly though it is.

The first game I think of in terms of thankfulness is Final Fantasy XI. I saved up to play it when it released in English and ended up playing for a year. It came at a time where games with character creators were rare and non existent in the games I played. It was the first time I got to play my own character to represent me and how I felt inside. I even had an interaction with someone else that also validated my sexuality to me.

I'm really happy you mentioned Final Fantasy 7 remake. That's exactly how I felt about Final Fantasy as well. Now I did play the original just before I played the Remake and I thought this is a good game but the story is so convoluted and it's so much to pack into one game. I found it very hard to follow and I still don't completely understand it, but playing remake and rebirth have completely changed my Outlook and opinion. I know not everybody loved that they added action RPG but I think that made the game so much better, at least for the remake in my opinion.

Some games I'm thankful for are Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga because it was my first RPG and it was the first game I played that had an actual story. And it was actually one of those things where I went back and played it when I was older and was able to appreciate the humor more. I'm thankful for Kingdom Hearts 2 because it came out at a time in my life where I was going through a lot of things emotionally, family drama, moving to a new town a year before and not really adjusting very well and I was a week out from starting middle school. When I got through the prologue of the game I was like wow I feel seen. And it was a silly Disney action RPG for the rest of the game and I was like wait what? How did they pull this off? And why do I love it so much? Alan Wake is another big one for me. It's partly what inspired me to write my own stories. As a teen I thought the character alan wake's writing was so deep. But I honestly can appreciate the fact that Sam Lake wrote him as a cliche thriller writer on purpose. Like it adds a whole other layer to the story. And now I kinda see Alan as a sort of cautionary tale.

One game that I'm thankful for is Yoshi's Story because it was the first video game I remember playing/got me interested in gaming. It also helped cheer me up on rough days when I had access to it and time to play it. Animal Crossing for the GameCube is another because it kinda shaped me even outside of gaming in some ways - like my sense of humor. I also named the dog I had for 16 years after my favorite villager, Maple. For JRPGs, I credit the Fire Emblem series in general for getting me interested in them - even though it probably took over a decade for me to actually get one after becoming interested😆

You probably have a mostly male audience so not a lot of us are going to mention your hair, but in case you wanted someone to notice you colored it, I did. Hope you and Jeff Andonuts had a good early Thanksgiving up north before us yankees did.

Omg that means so much! Thank you! I decided I was done with the grey for awhile and decided to colour it and I’m really liking it. Thank you!!! 🙏

I agree about Final Fantasy VII. I liked it but compared to most Final Fantasys I didnt. I thought it was too edgy. It still had silly moments but the edgy parts outweighed it for me that I ended up liking everything but I, and III over it but when Remake came out it was way better than I expected and I like it way more than the original. It's now one of my favorite Final Fantasys.

I'm really looking forward to Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D remake. I hope they do interesting things with the stories. I have no desire to play the earlier versions lol. Why play them now when the remake is coming in 2025??? DQ1 is painful to me and mainly just archeologically important at this point.

100%! I can’t wait to play them too!
