They could subtly change the UI every release, in a way that you don't notice. If any UI element has a bit of noise/grain, make it dependent on the version number. Shouldn't be hard.

I was so shocked by Unpacking. I picked it on PS+ to fill some time one day and it pulled me in so fast. I was amazed by how invested I got. I never thought that a game about unpacking boxes would have me yelling "Girl, he's not right for you! You deserve better!" Some weirdly profound stuff in there about how it looks when other people make room for you in their life and the opposite of that. So good.

One of the best parts of Unpacking is all the little story subtleties and the cute things you can do that the game understands the intentions for. Like putting the Diary under your pillow instead of in a drawer or on the desk.
@Scrubbert

The way Unpacking told its story was the main reason why it stuck with me ever since I played it. Seeing someone's life through their belongings is a really interesting way to frame a narrative and the execution really worked for me to keep me engaged until the end. Some items I had to think for a while to figure out where they were supposed to go, due to not knowing what they were supposed to be, but that aside, the amount of detail packed in to objects was very cool. Not using dialogue and instead opting to show little details like wear and tear on things the main character has owned since she was little or stuff she has later on in life very much hammers home the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" just because of how much detail of her life you can fill in from that. Its a game I'd recommend to just about anyone!

This was one of the few videos where I have played some of the games mentioned here, so I am invested now. The thing about Unpacking for me was that it really spoke to me. As you may know, it's made by an indie Australian team, and was it Aussie! As we progressed through the phases of her life it also brought me back to the stages of my life, moving to the ever-bright city, going back home, renting that same coloureds brice house! It was so cathartic it was one of those games I didnt want to end. So thank you Raz, rad video!

Dave the diver could have been so cool. I went pretty far into it. But in the middle it drags with so many fetch quests. The puzzles were stupid. Actually wanted to play it till the end, but after doing 3 hours of actually not fun stuff, and just fetvhing and puzzles without any thinking, I just had to stop. Could have been so good, so sad

One thing that I wish I would have mentioned here, but maybe I will talk about it in a main channel video is that the game is really hampered by it's main quest. The focus should have been on building the restaurant, as that is the most fun and compelling part, but the main story makes most of that stuff pointless and is filled with content that is so-so at best.

I played Unpacking just a few months ago aftrt having bought it on switch like...idk. 3 years ago? But due to health issues it made it very hard to play games lol. But! I found myself in a good health spell for a little while, so i was able to play games on my backlog finally. Unpacking was a game I hsd watched go through development for MANY years, it was especially well watched on tumblr innthe earlu 2010s, so finally getting into it was really exciting. What i wasnt expecting was how much i eas able to relate to the story? Besides having a nomadic childhood itself, my adulthood has been a progression of moves and making space for myself in ways i never did before, including moments of being stifled and made small, and also finding my community. The protag being a huge anime and cosplay nerd, the way she discovered her queerness but had to go through a pretty toxic relationship to get there...i gotta say. Unpacking the final house had me in tears, with a swelling since of longing and pride as i placed everything just so. Its short, but its a truly wonderful little game about expression, identity, and growing up. Loved every second of it

I'm with you on Dave the Diver. It was a blast in the beginning but the lack of polish and depth in the constantly introduced new mechanics soured the experience somewhat. In book terms, the game needed a strong handed editor.

I thought the problem was more when they were introduced than the fact that the mechanics were many and shallow. I think they work together pretty well, but by the time you've unlocked all of them, there's not a lot of game left.

Agreed on Dave, I also wish all the mechanics and upgradable stuff had unlocked sooner. I took the story very slowly, focusing on catching and making as much money as possible. Only to then realise I couldve been doing it way more efficiently if Id just rushed the story, and by then Id already bought the majority of upgrades and felt pretty frustrated.

I was just thinking for the number at the bottom of the screen that are an eye sore but do make it really useful for devs when we use it could be replaced by a dot of the size of the reticule can make it change colours depending on what is the version number to make sure to for mistake one colour for an other you could use hex code to refer it to the proper version number. Like that no need to remove it from the screen since it would be so small you would not notice it unless looking straight at it you could also make sure to use muted colours to make it even less visible
