@@𱁬Nice opinion, but there’s just one small problem. Who asked? Like, genuinely, who asked? Who gave YOU the talking stick I’ll tell you, NOBODY did. Nobody asked you. There are zero people who asked among us. Look I invited everyone who asked to this party! AYO group photo of everyone who asked! Hey check it out it’s a bus full of everyone who asked! You know what man, I’ll do you a favor. Clearly, we can’t see who asked, so I’m gonna do it myself. I’m gonna find out who asked! Sailing the seven seas to find out who asked. YOOO I literally found the one piece before I found who asked! I literally climbed to the top Mount Everest and didn’t find who asked! Keep searching boys, we gotta find who asked. I just infiltrated the largest satellite in the world and still can’t locate who asked! I LITERALLY FOUND THE CURE TO CANCER BEFORE I FOUND WHO ASKED! I’m on maximum render distance and still can find who asked! I witnessed the collapse of human society resulting from a global nuclear war and now life in the grave of the broken world ravaged radiation for years on end before I found who asked. I visited EVERY planet in no man’s sky and still didn’t find who asked. Doctor Strange looked through fourteen million different timelines and not in one of them did anyone ask. I literally searched through every backrooms level and didn’t find who asked. I LITERALLY DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN AND GOD HIMSELF DIDNT KNOW WHO ASKED. Leaving earth’s atmosphere to expand the range of our search. I literally found EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE on MARS before I found who asked! I have achieved intergalactic travel before I found who asked. I just found a DYSON SPHERE before I found who asked. I found the edge of the universe before I found who asked. I literally visited every single planet in the entire universe before I found who asked. I am literally witnessing the death of almost every star around me before I found who asked. The light of the earth is slowly fading. I have searched across galaxies leaving no stone unturned, yet I am afraid my time in this universe is finally running out. It’s a shame, really. I’ve witnessed stars being birthed, and those same stars dying. I’ve seen everything there is to see in this beautiful universe. This whole time, I’ve been caught up with such a petty task. Instead of enjoying my time while it lasted, I was distracted by the beauty of it all. I don’t regret what I’ve done though. The question that started it all, who asked, has finally been answered. I’ve searched every nook and cranny in this ENTIRE UNIVERSE. I can confidently say, better than anybody, that truly NOBODY ASKED.

Even if it's unrealistic, NPC's should probably sprint if you have to follow them (Just pop a quest marker on them like everything else in case the player loses them somehow) or have them do a quick jog if it's one of those stealth follows. That, or have a way to skip the scene entirely such as "I can find my way there myself" for those tour follows, or "I might know where they are going" if you have found the secret entrance to their base through a knowledge checkpoint or something from a previous playthrough.

I like the Assassin’s Creed approach where you get a “follow” prompt and just walk in sync with the NPC. Sure it “takes control away from the player” which some people don’t like, but it does do what I want to do. I forgot what game it was, but there was also an option where the NPC will just keep pace with you so if you walk they walk, if you run, they run and the game will do it’s best to keep then within a couple meters of you.

Reminds me of that one quest in Oblivion where you had to follow that dark elf allllllll the way to a ruin. It was part of the Fighter's Guild questline. He WALKS all the way there. Mind you, your character walks slower than an NPC and jogs faster than an NPC, so you have to constantly do a burst-speed of jog and walk. I hate it so much when devs put that stuff in

I can confidently say, better than anybody, that truly NOBODY ASKED.

what about a game thats just follow NPC the whole game. But then done in the most annoying way possible. And you can make them move faster for 5 minutes if you buy that feat with ingame credits that you have to buy with real money. And oh yeah you cant teleport or anything and after like 1 hour off walking the NPC needs to sleep for 8 real life hours. Unless you buy to wake him/her up with the premium currency. Oh and if you miss out on the NPC waking up then you have to restart the game because the NPC will be gone and you cant find them anymore.
