Rob's description of Ni No Kuni touched me on some sort of (non-pretentious) profound level, I swear. When he uttered the phrase 'burrowed through the layers of cynicism' I realised that I, too, longed to be that age again where I could appreciate a game's charm without being tainted by the real world's sceptical grasp of my very soul. Definitely one of your best segments, Rob.

Playing any Doom or Quake game of any generation will forever remind me of the exact first time I turned on a Playstation back on '96. Doom and Rayman (the trie Rayman) were my first console games (and of course there was SMW). Before that I had been introduced to games only that my parents and grandparents would play on the old Macintosh like Tetris, Prince of Persia, and Oregon Trail. When we got a PC finally, it was with windows 1.1. There was a long period of nothing but Sierra/Lucas point and click adventures from the DOS era like the first 2 Monkey Island games, Space Quest IV (? I think. I was never able to progress more than a couple screens) Day of the Tentacle (recently remastered for mobile) and the semi-obscure and brilliant Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist. At 6 I got MY first "console" a Gameboy Pocket with Six Gold Coins and Link's Awakening (of which I still possess the same original cart). A year or two later I was probably the first kid ever disappointed getting am N64 for Christmas as I had been asking for a Nintendo with Super Mario (World!) for years and got the brand new system which I came to love and experience all the cliche 64 titles and tropes as nearly every other 90's brat did. All rambling and reminiscing aside, the most powerful time machine imitating nostalgia injecting experiences are from the PC games I picked up beginning with the release of Windows '98 until I finally got a PS2 in 2003. During this time I still never had better than dial-up internet. Still, I wasted hours away on games like AOE: Age of Kings, Diablo 2 and Warcraft III even though the multiplayer was all but completely unavailable to me. I just loved strat. A quick honorable mention goes out to the incredible, highly underrated and now elusive puzzle/maze game Chip's Challenge from the Windows Entertainment Pack 2, the most mind-bending and challenging top-down game ever made, but there are two very special games of this same category that consumed more hours than I could imagine putting into any other game if I tried for the rest of my life (not even after 10 plays through Final Fantasy 6-10). Those are Civilization III and Rollercoaster Tycoon. I got both games' original releases and shortly after the deluxe 3-disc boxed sets for both. To this very day, it is still dangerous for me to start up either of these games. I've decided after the last time I got sucked into a 10 hour game of Civ, followed by a 3-day binge on RCT that I'm glad that today I'm not much of a PC gamer and don't have a Steam account of my own, because I probably wouldn't have a job anymore. Still, even taking twenty-minutes thinking about all these great titles while composing a pointless rant in the comments of a KZbin video (that will possibly never be read or acknowledged by anyone) Well, I do miss being a kid, and I do miss playing games. But still, I'm also reminded why modern games are one out of many that hold my interest. It does bring joy when there is so often disappointment for me in the video game industry today, to have that assurance that I didn't grow out of gaming and that its not true to say I hate them or am not entertained by them anymore- the assurance that I will in fact always love them no matter how much time we are apart.

Man, I remember the PS1 Phantom Menace game. Played it back when I barely knew how to play games, and it was a surprisingly complicated game at that. And those Darth Maul battles were tough but also epic.

Hmm, this one is a bit weird for me. The feeling I remember, as most of us, from playing games back when I was a good was pure unfiltered excitement. After long, long time of not playing games and then stumbling upon mediocre games, Yakuza 0 was the one to make me feel so excited again. It's story and pacing just grabbed me and didn't let go and it's the closest thing that made me feel the same feelings like playing Crash Team Racing did.I know, it's bit weird.

Thanks for your concern, by the way, there are few people like you, I had some sad things happen in my childhood, but that is the case for all human beings, no one is safe from suffering, but that's why we try to be better every day, to make it less horrible for me and everyone else. If I had to really chose a game that brought me back in time, that would be replaying *Resident Evil 4* a few days ago at a friends house, man, that brought back memories, I was 12 I think, when I got it, I was one of the few games I had (you know, my family couldn't afford to buy many games, I actually had saved a LOT to afford it), I used to play the heck out of that game (and I used to get really scared too hahaha). Blessings dude, have a great day.

I loved (and hated) Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets lol! But it was actually the first game I think me and my sister finished (ahem - as a partnership because we both had strengths and weaknesses lol!) - we weren't able to clock Crash Bandicoot Warped (as far as I can remember... I think mum might have played a few stages - not to really help but to play and I'm pretty sure a family friend actually like did the rest of whatever we actually couldn't do probably defeated N-gin and then the levels and definitely Cortex and finished it..) and whenever we played Mario (we would've been younger!) mum definitely played with us then and also our older brother (probably beat whatever we actually couldn't) same with Donkey Kong (to be honest though - I don't remember if we finished that) but the two of us did Harry Potter... I don't remember what parts I was good at (ironically lol!) except for the slide into the chamber itself at the end - that was definitely the thing I managed lol! ... my sister however did the stupid trolls/giants in the forbidden forest part... I don't remember who succeeded against sneaking past the teachers in the garden but I remember that being a thing... can still remember being caught a billion times (both of us I think! We'd take control until either we got frustrated playing it and then dumped it on the other person OR maybe until we got frustrated watching each other struggle with something we thought we could do so snatch the controller back lol!) Also vaguely remember Colin Creevey being right in our face with his camera trying to get about Hogwarts lol

Will we all be doing this in to our golden years? Playing and covering games as journalists? Anyhow. My game that took me back to 10 was Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. I didn’t play games religiously as a kid but when Mortal Kombat came out on Sega(Genesis in the US) my friends and I played a whole lot of it. Mortal Kombat 1,2,3 then I discovered the opposite sex. When Deadly Alliance released, I purchased it for a reunion of sorts with the friend I played MK1 with the most and we stayed up all night laughing and creatively decapitating each other, as children do. As a 37 year old married man with two kids and a full time job recapturing that feeling is very rare, and apart from playing with my kids, was probably the last time I will enjoy some good old couch co-op.

Crossing Souls is bringing back so many memories (I was just a little older than the characters back then). Ni No Kuni ~definitely gave me that young, joyous feeling I'd long since forgotten (it's such a perfect little game). But recently, the one game that made me feel ten again was Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles... such a delightful experience.

I know exactly what jump that Dan is talking about! tbh the game controls werw really awkward and you had to time it ridiculously perfectly to pass that jump.

I guess it's the point but Shovel Knight for me. The pixel style brought me back to the 80s / 90s.

Playing the upcoming Spider-Man game should bring back some memories of the original with Stan Lee’s narration. Great

I bought my dad Elite : Dangerous for his Christmas. I had to have a go though and, my god, it took me back to when I was a kid. I must have this game but my gaming budget has been spent this year already :(. Might have to "borrow" it next time I visit

I need some advice guys, it's about the Witcher 3. I haven't played it that much (and honestly I don't know why) but I am at the part where you need to fight a golem in a dark chamber. I know that his back is his weak spot but somehow I can't manage to defeat him and I don't if signs or which signs could work against him. Can you help me please?

Mine has got to be the older Fire Emblem games (not PlayStation obviously) but those were my first introductions to video games. Those and Rayman 2.

Monster Hunter World. Never played more than demos of older ones but being blown away with friends and getting hype over dang kaiju fights and epic attacks and tricks and weapons made me feel like I was 10 looking at awesome cartoons or getting into bigger games with more amazing things happening on PS1 and 2. Mind-blowing fun and difficulty them being a master who overcomes it. 20 by the way.

I didn't have a console when I was ten so there is no game that can make me feel that young :( but playing with my 3.5 year old son with his toys definitely reminds me of my childhood :)

For me, the games that made me feel like a child again were the remake of Ratchet and Clank and Tekken 7 !! Dan you're absolutely right, the Prelogy is not a masterpiece, however it's still pretty cool !! And OBI-WAN really is The-Best-Jedi-EVER !!!

A game that brings me back is X-2: Wolverine's Revenge. Apparently it was a really bad game but I played it so much, I loved it. To this day, I could probably beat the first act of the game without even thinking about it.

Guys, cut Dan some slack. I, too, loved the Prequel films... Including Episode I. I also remember playing that level on Naboo, but unlike Dan I didn't keep at it for a whole year. I just gave up and moved on to something else instead...
