Jay I only recently truly got into 40k and chose Black Tamplars. I found your channel almost 2 months ago now and I absolutely love it. Probably my favorite hobby channel on all of YT. Models and Memories Weekly has to be my favorite thing to watch every week now. Keep on being awesome my dude.

I also love Models and Memories Weekly! I don't think it's going anywhere as a heads up, I also saw the "FINAL" in the title but KZbin sometimes is a bit awkward when re-saving a video title sometimes so I'd assume this was just the final edit which they uploaded and KZbin glitched out on the save and they didn't notice right away is all.

@@TinBearStudios thanks for the heads up! I feel completely silly now lol.
@TinBearStudios2 жыл бұрын
@@amccombs42 No need to feel silly! I only know from publishing my own videos and by default KZbin pulls in the file name, you owverwrite it and don't notice when it saves but doesn't update the title 😊

oh, a thing about the florescent paints to consider - a lot of people have picked up those big kickstarter gaming tables with the ring of LED lighting around the rim of the table and i could see the paints interacting with those.
@stephenchurch17842 жыл бұрын
The flourescent paints work really well for any type of osl. The transparency allows you to emulate the interaction between the light and what it is being cast on. Just paint the light source white then apply the flouro with an airbrush and a bit of overspray

Arent fluo paints often used as just like super vibrant glazes? Haven't really used them for other than like glowing eyes myself, but I've seen others use them kinda like glazes since they are pretty transparent.

Fluorescent paints don't really come across well in video or picture format, but in person they really boost the vibrancy of a paint job. They are also best applied through an airbrush over white in very thin glazes. And the biggest downside is you can't really thin them with water as it doesn't interact too well with the medium. I've seen some display painters glaze yellow fluo over their brightest highlights to really give them that punch that sunlight has.

I do believe that some florescent paint is meant to go on almost clear, or be mixed with a medium, that way it acts more like a varnish with special effects you *only* see under a blacklight/UV. There were definitely old rattle-can sprays you could use to spray your PC components (this was the context I discovered them in, as I accessorized one of my early PC builds with UV reactive items inside), but the product was versatile, and one of the suggested uses was to spray cool space stuff onto walls that you would only see when you switched to blacklight. I imagine these are probably still sold somewhere, I just haven't rediscovered or even looked for them in 15+ years. Just an FYI.

The Fluor paints come across to the eye as a lot Brighter/Vibrant then normal acrylic paints do, WHEN you have some sort of daylight comming in from the windows! (it does improve it with pure lightbulb light too, just less noticble difference). You just can't make a paintjob as strong colorful with normal acrylic paints as you can with fluor paint! It's similar to how a gloss finnish improves how the color reads, and a matt finnish dulls the color a bit! With Fluor paint you can paint a more matt finnish while still having a really saturated color hypothetically! or go crazy making it a bit gloss too! haha :D Test Fluoresent paint on your next glowing bit, be it a plasma pistol or what have you! Worth noting is since they are so thin and don't cover well I tend to use them mostly as a glaze! or mix it together with some other paints, sometimes whites that gain really good coverage. quote from GSW: "These opaque and fluorescent acrylic paints will make your miniatures and dioramas have very bright colors. They are characterized by their intense brightness, reaching the maximum brightness on the white paint. In addition, they react and shine under ultraviolet / black light, offering an infinity of creative possibilities." The Shine under ultraviolet light is just a bonus effect, not it's main purpose.

Vallejo Fluo Magenta is a ton of fun to paint my tzeentch flamers' flickering flames. I found that the main advantage is it finishes with a super-saturated insanely bright colour, but you need to choose a basecoat carefully and apply the fluo thinly and carefully, or else it ends up drying as essentially a crappy dull (but glossy) red. Also some near-white highlights ontop really emphasise the brightness of the color. I've used (game color?) fluo green too, but admit for the similar flame stuff I've tried it works very similar to a pale basecoat with the necron tesseract glow technical paint on top. Still great but it probably won't really surprise anyone! I've picked up fluo blue but not used it yet. Sometimes I want to have something look like it is really glowing bright and colourful, fluo seems like a good way to do it! Interested to hear what you end up trying it with :)
@DaThingOnTheDoorstep2 жыл бұрын
The GSW fluo paints Jay showed here are much thinner than Vallejo's, so they're a bit more forgiving. I also found they mix together a lot better.

WFB dates back to when the mini's were actually 25mm and were noticeably smaller than they are now (I still have some) and fit on those 20mm square bases fairly easily. Especially if you put them on the diagonal as the opposite corners were 28mm apart.
