It isn't illegal to cast your own stuff. It only becomes iffy if you want to sell it. GW (or anyone else) can't enforce such a ridiculous IP law as "You can't copy stuff you bought!" You are free to do whatever you want when you bought it. Attempting to sell someone else's IP is where the law comes in.

Just to be clear. The illegal part is that you are planning on selling this, NOT that you are making copies of 40k bits. Everyone is allowed to make copies of whatever they want. You just cant sell them. (Also, copies you make yourself are tournament legal in most if not all cases).

It depends on the country. Copying/recasting in Poland is not prohibited as long as you legally bought the original. You cannot, however, copy it with the intention of selling it and obtaining gains from it.

As far as I'm aware recasting only becomes a legal problem if you sell whatever you recast. You can basically do whatever you want with anything you buy,including 3d copying and printing more of it,as long as it's for personal use only. Now a reasonable company wouldn't sue you for selling a diorama just because it has couple recast bits in it but GW is anything but reasonable. So if you're not in a situation where GW specifically consents to it don't do it.

@@SeraphX2 you'll have to do research for your country as the laws differ a lot, but I know in some countries that the manufacture of a counterfeit good is illegal whether it's intended for sale or not. However so long as a recasted piece is being added to a larger model then as soon as it's added to the model it becomes part of a unique art piece and is no longer a counterfeit of anything. So it would only be the process of creating the part which is illegal. But the laws are massively different from country to country.

My understanding is that even hibernating necrons have active maintenance scarabs. The entire tomb should be utterly devoid of life unless things are so bad that the scarabs aren't working - in which case the sleeping necrons are unlikely to wake up.

If you're going to do silicone molds like that, first use clay or putty, press the part being copied into the clay halfway and then push holes into the clay in each of the corners. Spray it all with mold release and then add the silicone. Once it's cured, take it out, flip it over, spray the silicone and model with mold release again, and do the second half. Essentially, instead of starting with the bottom half, start with the top half. That way you don't have to try and float the piece you're trying to copy. Once it's done, you can cut out a pouring section to the item and on the opposite end, cut out thin lines to allow the air to escape from the back-end as you're pouring in your resin.

If you are interested in casting stuff for personal use, check out Robert Tolone's channel: kzbin.infovideos And to add to what others have said, doing this kind of thing for a personal project is fine, especially for something like this where you want clear plastic version (T'au Stealth suits is another great candidate) but it's not going to be cost effective if you're just trying to save money.

Recasting for YOURSELF is not in any way shape or form illegal, that which you buy, you own. However gamesWorkshop may enforce rules which state that you cannot use third party bits ( which recast can be included in) in their stores or sanctioned events, which is a whole other thing in of itself, and not aplicable to Recasting for personal use. Which is one of the most heavily guarded IPs in the world defended by Disney. DISNEY, the company renowned for defending their IP with an iron fist. Adam does it. Records it. Puts it on the internet where he gets money from people watching it. And he is doing it for his own personal collection and not selling the pieces. And has not been sued. Heck, he even makes casts of actual props he owns that were used in movies. Idk what backwards country would have laws making that illegal. But if you find one let me know.

This is beyong amazing. BUT if you go for an underwater look, you should consider that no plants would be hanging downwards really, unless it is heavy roots. Foliage and algae drift with the currents and usually float upwards. Algae hanging downward can only happen if the cave is not flooded anymore due to ebb in effect.

I’m having to rebuy a bunch of models since have horrible ocd with painting my models when they’re not perfect I’ll put them in purple power to clean em and try to repaint them but after doing that 4-5 times it ruins the models I might just try to take some of the messier models and try to do something like this but who am I kidding I would probably dip the whole thing after not being able to get it perfect. Recasting is not necessarily illegal where you live. Selling the Parts for profit is illegal, yes. But in some countries when you buy the Kit, you own it and can do with it what you want, even recast it for your own use.

The silicon and resin thing is fine for bitz tbh. You already bought the kit. Like, I need loads of bullgryn shields - I could spend £30 a pop on kits, or £3 a shield online... or I could make 50 shields with like £60 of resin/silicon. I'm not selling them - it's for conversions. The real issue is you need to do it somewhere with ventilation as resin is real bad for the lungs.

The legal aspect is kinda interesting. If you buy music or software you are allowed to make a private copy to preserve and protect the original (that is established case law for decades ibn any countroes), but you cannot sell it or anything. So you could make the case here that you are making a private copy of the figurine to keep the original in prime condition. I think with software the number was up to 7 security copies, though i could be wrong, and i am sure it depends on the exact jusisdiction). Not sure if anybody has tried this in court as defense, though by the time they go after it usually goes well beyond a few copies for private use. What might be a problem in this case in particular is that this is technically commercial use, since he does make money via the video. So here it is def. good to have the official blessing of GW. But say you have made a few copies for private use (and really just those few), and GW does threaten legal action, i would def ask a lawyer to send them a friendly letter that those are private copies of the originals you bought. I do not think GW wants a test case if this is legal or not, cause they would open pandoras box if they lose and this becomes public knowledge. So chances are pretty high they silently drop it, as long as you do not make much of a public fuss and force them to act.
