I'm pretty sure Space Marine 2 (and the Secret Level episode) takes places most recently as Chairon and Gadriel have a conversation that Calgar was victorious on Vigilus which is where Gulliman left him to fight Haarkon in the Rift War book.

Devastation of Baal is pretty clear on its timeline and how it fits into things. It starts before the great rift, just as Abaddon is attacking Cadia (They hear reports from troops heading that way and eventually arriving when the world is/has broken), it then goes into the main Tyranid assault which culminates with the great rifts expansion and in the aftermath Guilliman arrives and there is a line about: While you've been fighting for 3 weeks (I think it was), 100 years have passed (They may have said like 70ish years specifically, but I could be misremembering, I don't have the book on me atm). So there should probably be a giant bracket to your image saying Devastation takes place while everything else is happening, up the start of Arks of Omen, given the ending state there. Given some other quotes made about the destruction of Leviathan, I would go so far as to say it likely includes up to the end of that crusade book to. Meaning more or less the first thing Dante does after Guilliman appoints him is run into the Lion.

Excellent video! This has been keeping me up at night for YEARS! So, from Guilliman’s perspective he went to Baal after The Silent King and on his way to Plague Wars. That makes sense as it leaves enough time for Psychoc Awakening Blood of Baal, Darkness in the Blood, Mephiston City of Light and Astorath Angel of Mercy before Dante meeting the Lion in Arks of Omen. My only question is when is the 4th Tyrannic War in all this and the 10th Ed launch novel? Just at the same time as Arks of Omen? If so we have to question how many Ultramarines there are. They’re popping up too frequently.

The easiest way for me to figure the timeline is like this. In vol 1 of the Dawn of Fire series, G-man creates the Historitors - with 4 main characters, among which is Fabian Guelphrain. Now, in vol 4 (if I remember correctly) G-man sends Fabian to Ultramar with his bodyguard and friend Racej Lucerne, now a Black Templar (to guard Fabian or kill him if he ends up being controlled by chaos). When the Dark Imperium trilogy begins, Fabian is already in Ultramar and "annoying" Tigurius with his requests to access the Library of Ptolemy.

Real minor thing, but the Dark Angel book Lazarus: Enmity's Edge takes place after Arks of Omen, as that book ends with Lazarus being told to return to the Rock, the Lion has summoned his sons. Other than that the book is largely inconsequential.

I'm new to Warhammer only got into it a couple months ago. I've listened to so much lore, built an Ultramarines army, I started listening to book when I'm at work. Started with some of the Horus Heresy books, the gathering storm series, and today I listened to the Lion son of the forest. Wasn't sure which books lead to pariah nexus but after hearing about the new book I'm planning to listen to all of the dawn of fire and then plague wars. This is a great reading list. My two favorite primarchs are Guilliman and the lion, so I do want to see them meet again. I also hope next year the bring back some more of the loyalist Primarchs.

The listing of all the books and the proceeding scroll wall of books in story order was very helpful and I’m sure to many others as well. How all these authors keep their story in order I don’t know. Maybe they all plan, cooperate somehow with their story points? It would be confusing otherwise how to keep track of who, when, what, where, all happens.

If they continue with the themed title I'd like to put this forward. What comes after the Dawn? The Day! Whats comes after Fire? Ash! Next book series it thus titles Days of Ash. It sees the Imperium reeling from the latest attacks from Chaos and Xenos forces. Word has reached Guilliman that a new ally has returned and he makes all attempts to stay on course for the Nexus but also to link up with this new ally. To his surprise it doesn't take long as the Lion Forest Walks into Guillimans flag ship and the two are reunited. While this is going on though Vashtorr is building his allegiance with both Abaddon and the Dark Mechanicum and is setting out to intervene Guilliman and put a stop to his plans. He then intends to harness the Necron tech and reverse it's effects so instead of repelling Chaos it expels it causing more of the immaterium to emerge into real space. Meanwhile the Tyranids are massing their forces and Gahzgul has called a new Waaaaagh! ready to take the galaxy for the Green. With other figures working in the shadows the galaxy is even less of a safe place to live in.

In my opinion at this point I think we will see (or at least I hope) soon the announcement of a new Crusade book that will advance the setting a bit, maybe the last book that will definitively conclude the story of the Pariah Nexus, to then see a narrative series that starts maybe with more context regarding the 4th Tyrannic war, to then continue again with the arrival of the Emperor's Children, at least that's how I see it, even if it's hard to say because GW is often unpredictable lol

So there's a group of Black Library novels divided by and overlapping with the official Warhammer campaign books it seems, starting from just before the Gathering Storm series at the end of Seventh Edition. The narrative thread you've presented here seems to cover most of it, but leaves out events like the Psychic Awakening, but seeing as a lot of those events have references in other novels and campaign books they should be easy enough to place. And of course this barely covers the other main series from Black Library, like the Necron novels they've released recently, the recent Ork books, the other Blood Angels books, never mind the crime books or horror novels that might be after the Rift opened, plus all the Warhammer+ content set after the opening of the Rift, or Darktide, or Space Marine 2. I think you've given me a project to try and sit and map this all out Valrak! I love reading/watch orders and this is going to leave me too curious not to investigate further.

So, maybe the reason the Dark Angels' story hasn't been advanced yet with the Return of the Lion is that someone at GW/BL realized they need to finish off these other series that take place before his return. Hopefully someone is busy writing some new DA books and there is a plan for the reunion of the Primarchs. Of course, if they are going to bring back Russ, they could decide why have 2 Primarchs meet when you could have 3 (or more?) all meet at the same time! In which case it could be a while before we get that reunion!

I firmly believe that all of the Dark Library authors are disciples of Tzeentch. The entire bibliography is so chronologically chaotic it makes perfect sense.

In theory, Devastation of Baal starts before the dawn of fire, then the rift opens and it finishes before dark imperium trilogy. Guilliman going to Baal kind of has to happen beffore Dark Imperium takes place because we know exactly where he is throughout those events, and it can't happen after Dark Imperium because we know he heads back to pariah nexus. Realistically that means it can only happy parallel to some of the later books where guilliman doesn't feature or features less in dawn of fire series. To make things more fun, it seems like Dante is already primaris by the time of "the lion, son of the forest" as he's described as younger looking and not having white hair. Which means it takes place after Darkness in the blood , which is set 4-5 years after the events of devastation of baal (we know this because Teus is stated to be that long into his training). Which shifts the timeline along a fair chunk for when The Lion Son of the Forest can happen. Sounds like genefather is around 10-12 years after dawn of fire also from some of guys responses

I think devastation of Baal happens just before the plague wars since dawn of fire series has them looking for a crossing to the other side of the rift and I want to say Gorillaman broke up the last of the primaris from the crusade at the start of the plague wars series which would imply the blood angels were already reinforced.

It really seems like GW didn't have a plan at all with the story and just left the authors to write stories with no directions so they are just all over the place. We don't even know what years these stories take place in, GW just use time shenanigans as a catch all phrase for we have no idea because we didn't plan anything. If the authors don't even know the timeline then that is really bad on GW's part.

If you are used to what happened at the end of 7th and the start of 8th edition then this would be a pause but realistically what GW is doing is what it has done for much of the existence of 40k, create a setting that it then fills out with detail. Advancing the story line is very rare from GW

Given the chronotopology of the IoM I have no difficulty hearing the authors trying to tie things in. I would not be surprised if a Primarch actually encounters a future or past version of themselves. Way I see it is Big Bobby G and Daddy Dark Angel meet up and The LOT have a fit now there is another Primarch to deal with. The war in the webway ends Man is victorious. The big E heals and stands up (that last part is wishful thinking) Russ returns because of this as he defeats the forces holding him in the Warp Bjorn starts crying Corax announces his return to his chapter who after getting over the shock of their Primarch being insane start their own shadow crusade assassinating followers of Erebus The khan, Vulcan leaves signs of imminent return Graz Al thraka wants to have a word with A certain Demon Prince of Khorne and takes a big chunk of the Orks of the imperium with him because some one killed the only human he liked (I really hope this is a book) Alpha Primus writes a song The Emprahs Big Gold Bolter (primus and wynonas big brown beaver)

No the Cypher book is set directly after Girlyman is resurrected. Because Cypher travels to Terra with Girlyman, is imprisoned and thats where the book begins. GW are so useless they release new books that are already outdated
