TenebrisTheDog during the Jak and Daxter run, which Patty commentated, he and the runner (Bonesaw577) ended up talking like Owen Wilson as a joke (you'd have to watch the run, it's a lot funnier in context) and they kept saying stuff like "it's amazing! Wow! I can't believe it!" and so Andy was vaguely referencing that to try to bait Patty into making another Owen Wilson joke

@sirnopants28607 жыл бұрын
No they don't. All you have to do is sandwich a comedian with two other runners and have them play off the situations. It's ridiculous to suggest that you need a comedian speed runner in order to pop off jokes about the game. Hell, if anything, it'd be funnier if they had no idea what was going on. That would open questions they'd have that could stem to funnier jokes. The whole point is to make the show more entertaining, not informative.

@1313eable4 жыл бұрын
They do 8 times the damage of a normal arrow, which already does the same damage as a Master Sword swing. So, basically, a Silver Arrow does the same damage as the spin of the Golden Sword. However, many enemies including bosses are coded to take double damage from arrows, which is why most of them die with a single hit.

Patty was funny in this run. He's the type of person who can make a good couch better or a bad couch worse. In this run, where the runner was in it to have fun, it worked really well. In the Super Metroid run though, he kinda ruined things. His brand of humor is funny, but the problem with the SM run was that he was too busy making jokes to allow the rest of the couch to explain any of the tricks.
@XcZeus34697 жыл бұрын
The only thing that ruined that SM run was the two others eating it on the first boss and turning into a normal speedrun. I thought he livened up the process and I probably wouldve tuned out if he wasnt there to entertain.
@kay_sou7 жыл бұрын
And that boils down to preference. Low% Ice is a run I've never seen before, so I would've liked some insight on how he did some of the tricks, but the commentary mostly boiled down to Patty making dumb jokes. That type of commentary has its place, but it needs to be balanced. In this run, there was time in between the couch goofing around that they still explained some stuff, which wasn't the case in the SM run.
@jae555557 жыл бұрын
for what its worth i didnt like patty in either run and wish hed just stay in the crowd or at home. patty ruins any sort of explanation that could be given and isn't funny at all to me. the guy makes the runs completely about him also which is just annoying
@Agazega7 жыл бұрын
Jae While GDQ does encourage the runner/couch to include informative commentary, it doesn't enforce it. The rules also say: "First and foremost, we encourage a fun, entertaining, and casual environment on the stream." I'm sorry that you are not entertained by the handful of runs that focus on humor. I guess you'll have to enjoy the 100+ runs that focus on explanations. Btw, the runners decide who will be on the couch. When they include Patty, they know full well what he's bringing to the run. If you're not happy about it, watch something else or go speak to the runners on their respective twitch channels. While you're there, you can ask them for more explanations on the run they did.
@jae555557 жыл бұрын
I'm aware of all of this already and I appreciate what you're saying however when Patty makes the whole run about himself it detracts from my enjoyment of said run. The Super Metroid Ice race and the Link to the Past runs were the two that I was looking forward to the most this year and Patty made them suck for me.
