Kinda funny watching Pocky and Rocky being played now, back when I was a kid I didn't know I was fighting a bunch of creatures out of Japanese folklore

Nice run! I TAS'd this a few years ago and haven't had much of a chance to mess with it since, so it's great to see some of the latest RTA tech and routing. Getting that many bomb sages (including stage 2!) and successfully dealing with this game's RNG, lag, and input slop is no small feat, so major props to d4gr0n for pulling it off in a marathon setting.

Nice! That's one of my favorite TASes too.

Ah the one game where friendships grew stronger growing up- love it! Hope to see Pocky & Rocky make a comeback! 🥰

"This boss is awful." Boss dies in about one second, lol.
@5hadax5 жыл бұрын
It really is awful if you don't have 2 bombs
@caprese12435 жыл бұрын
I mean, he did die in one second, that is pretty awful by boss standards. If they were a normal enemy, I'd understand, but I expect a boss to withstand at least 10 seconds.

Pocky and Rocky is one of the cutest games ever made.

This was my favourite game as a kid, always wondered what a speedrun would look like. Wow he really makes every boss look like a joke. :O
@5hadax5 жыл бұрын
Yup. That's what happens when you win the frame rule for sage manip and get more bombs. Sometimes I'm not so fortunate in my runs which I'm not going to lie, I wish I wasn't so lucky here, just to show off the backup strats I had for some of the fights. Just for you though, here's what the run looks like when I'm on the other end of the luck table. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2SnhaZmdqyAkLs

I used to play this with my father when I was a kid, the game was so hard tho, never could pass lvl 3.

Level 3 on co-op is rough. It's so easy to kill your partner just due to the typical reaction to slide due to the moving walls.

Very nice run, that ending was a real butt clencher. Cool to see this game getting some love too, I remember playing this back in the day but haven't heard the name dropped very much since then.

This game reminds me more of a 90's Sega game rather then a snes game.

They censored that Harpy boss in the US version, interesting...
@kestral633 жыл бұрын
They also changed Pocky throwing Japanese charms to playing cards, the devils in the background art of the last stage to mutants, and in some versions threw out all the cutscenes so they wouldn't have to translate them into more languages.

@@kestral63 I have the European version, and it has all the cutscenes, but without any text.

What did he mean he already had the max amount of bombs on stage 3? You can have 4, not 3.
@johng.9144 Жыл бұрын
He's playing on the Japanese version, and he mentions at 1:23 that "the only major difference [between the Japanese and English versions] is that the bomb cap limit is 3 and not 4".

wtf? how do you turn into a statue? Great run
@Graedius5 жыл бұрын
Hold the melee attack button, and it charges. Once fully charged you can release it to turn into the statue. (If you do this with Pocky, she does a spin attack.)

This game isn’t obscure nor has been for awhile. Don’t know why he makes that claim. Still, great run though.
@5hadax5 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest here. I spoke purely from the viewpoint of the game's very slow progression within the speedrunning community itself which for a more known and widespread event such as this from the casual eye, my statement there would obviously come off as very confusing. ProJared's review most certainly did alot to put the game on the map of those less inclined to dig through the massive SNES library for sure. I guess a better comparable for this game would be the game I ran at SGDQ, Rocket Knight Adventures. People know of both games, they have heard of both of them, but neither game has exactly been a popular speed game which I guess shouldn't surprise me.
