This video is very nearly four years old... But Pocky and Rocky has a bad localization, really awful bad localization. The "Nopino Goblins" is a mistranslation and mis-localization of "Nippon Yōkai" which would be Japanese Spirits/Ghosts/Demons/Apparitions. All of those characters are traditional Yōkai/Ayakashi(they're the same thing) from Japanese folklore. For example the "mushroom head guy" is a Tofu-Kōzzō, a possessed block of tofu that generates a body with spiritual power. Rocky is a Tanuki, which is Japan's very real Raccoon-Dog animal. In this case one of the Yōkai versions of the real animal, since all native animals in Japan have yōkai counterparts. Rocky like all Tanuki-yōkai uses magically infused leaves as a means of casting spells. The most common variant is casting a charm on a leaf, then the Tanuki puts the leaf on it's head and that makes it look like a human, just with a big leaf on their head. The "Gorgonzola Goblins" are a mistranslation and mis-localization of "Gaijin Yōkai", which translates to "Foreign Spirits". These are mythical spirits and monsters from all over the world, primarily Europe and the Middle East. Like Jinn(aka Genies) and the like. Finally Pocky is a miko, or Japanese Shinto Shrine Maiden/Supplementary Priestess, she throws paper purification charms known as shikigami and uses a purification pole as her weapons. This is an example of her acting as what's known as an onmyōji. That is someone who uses onmyōdō to calm the spirits and break curses, basically a Shinto Exorcist, which is one of the duties of a miko. Hope that helps anyone confused by the lore of this game.

I'm going to go ahead and assume the whole "Goblin" thing was an awkward translation of "Yokai." Faizan Ali It's called touhou. It is a very fun, very difficult arcade style shoot-em-up. The reason I say it is arcade like is because it has an extra stage, good graphics, very addicting gameplay, and some of the GREATEST MUSIC TO EVER GRACE PLANET EARTH! I am sure you have heard some of the music, seen some of the charcters, or at least heard of it. Whilst it is very popular in japan, it's surprisingly semi-obscure in the states. Mostly because you need to rely on fan translations. If you can get a copy of one of the games, read one of the Mangas, or watch a bit of the anime, you would like it. But don't just take my word for it, ask some of the fans!

A lot of these enemies are actually based on Japanese folklore, like the living intimate objects and the stretchy neck woman, a lot of women in Japanese folklore end up being demons

nop e That's because the "goblins" are actually Youkai. There's really just no good translation for the word in america. The fact they went with goblin makes you confused about the fact Rocky, as a tanuki, is also a Youkai (hence PBG's pointing it out) but had they gone with the standard "demon/spirit" translation it would have also been wrong although "spirit" or "supernatural creatures"are the closest wecan get to what they actually are.

Z7Games True, but the thing is not all youkai are spirits or demonic. Most are just supernatural beings with no particular malicious intent. It's like calling all spirits ghosts even though demons, angels and even gods can be considered spirits.
