Metroid Hot Take: the Speed Boost is the single most fun item in the series. Its absence the sole reason that despite loving Samus Returns, I can’t bring myself to rank it evenly with ZM, Super and Dread.

I noticed that certain enemies, like the zombies, Skulteras and the Zazabi, are glitched to where their coloration end up blackish instead of their purple hues. Which kinda adds to the awesomeness of this run.

I think the hate for Fusion Varia is that it's just not the Varia suit. Instead of a sleek new red sheen and bulky shoulder pads, you get a green paint job.

I wouldn't say that, because the Fusion suit itself is a *very* nice suit in terms of design. I think it's just that the color palette that was chosen for Varia looks so... weird, especially when you get Gravity which has that nice violet and teal palette.

Fusion has always had a special place in my heart. It's one of the first games I finished, it's one of my favorite games, and it made me happy to see it still getting some love here.

Literally for this, to "hang out" with the collection of fellow appreciators of the game and drink in their insights and fun comments.

Why isn't it 60FPS? He's playing *at the event*, I figured the return of playing games *at the event* (after COVID) would mean all games at the event would no longer be subject to FPS differing from the games intended FPS (except when it's needed for a glitch). I also noticed this with other AGDQ 2024 KZbin clips (so I'm not singling this specific Runner out), the KZbin video is 60 but the gameplay footage is clearly not.

What do you mean? The opening cutscene in Fusion clearly mentions Samus becoming part Metroid and it figures into the story several times. The Fusion Suit itself has a Metroid-like design for crying out loud!

Metroidvania hot take: im fucking sick of all these SOTN esque metroidvania games. i dont want stats and rpg elements and like 60 different weapons or only melee range etc etc. metroidvanias are almost always the castlevania side of things and not enough metroid. hollow knight is good because it straddles that line perfectly. axiom verge 1 was fun but then they made it a fucking melee one in the sequel. most others ive lost complete interest in

I dunno, man, it's not really a "glorified remake" when the plot of Metroid 1 was "beat mother brain who's trying to take over the galaxy with these metroids", 2 was "exterminate the metroids so this can't possibly happen again" and then Super was "well, we decided not to kill THIS one and instead do research OH NO MOTHER BRAIN STOLE THIS ONE AND IS IMPERFECTLY CLONING METROIDS FUUUUUCK" like, it has overlaps with the first for sure, but it's not a remake. Zero Mission is the remake. So I guess technically, yeah, that is a hot take, definitely contentious

I've never understood why it's called Metroidvania. Both original Metroid and Castlevania came out for NES in '86 and Castlevania was a linear game with levels and random upgrades. Castlevania being an open world game didn't happen until Simon's Quest in '87 (and outside Japan was almost impossible to finish due to bad translation).

Because Symphony of the Night consolidated many of the mechanics that became part of the genre in itself, as since only Metroid did this type of thing before that - rpg inventories, experience... all of that was not part of Metroid, Castlevania brought it to the genre.
