The best strat in this game is to just not bother with contraband unless it gives counts as extra merchandise. This way you don't need to pay bribes as often, you can safely bait the sheriff into giving you money, and you can more easily secure the end game bonuses. Contraband may be worth a lot, but in the end I've never found it to actually be worth it.

Liam Waite One good bag filled with contraband is worth far more than two bags of legal goods. It’s gambling lol. And I believe you can put in more than 5 cards if you lie, but it’s obvious the number of cards you have left.

If you never, ever put in contraband, the other players will pick up on that. They'll realize your strategy is to just play it safe and bait them, and they won't fall for it anymore. That's when you snag 'em and put in a whole bag of contraband.

Gamut often the best way to shuffle Sheriff cards is to have someone who has no goddamn idea how to shuffle shuffle and it breaks up after about 2 minutes
