I don't disagree with the review, though I think it was a bit too negative. The game is still a lot of fun, the music is nice, and while combat is plain, it still takes some skill if you expect your characters to live

This is an excellent review, spot on. Especially with harder puzzles, getting past them with make-shift boxes/bridges feels like you've wormed your way past the puzzle. After a while it's not as satisfying as solving a puzzle should be. Pontius is really only there to give your brain a break, to button-mash when there's a section with a lot of enemies. It's also disappointing there's massive creatures, almost all of them aren't boss fights or used interestingly. It's such a lavishly beautiful game and I enjoyed playing it, but I couldn't really recommend it.

People really don't understand the purpose of a review. One person may love a particular aspect of a game, while another may hate it, opinions differ from one another. Just because a reviewer doesn't share the same opinion as you it doesn't make the review terrible, or indeed make the reviewer a Call of Duty bumder. Carolyn made her points, backed them up with very plausible evidence and gave a well rounded, detailed review.

Okay, that's strange, OSW Review literally took the words out of my mouth... Great review, spot on. Trine 2 feels like something of a missed opportunity; wish that the mechanics and, well, everything else had risen to the level of its presentation.

Despite the "reviewer" opinion, Trine 2 is a good game with amazing visuals and should be given a test drive if you are into this style of gaming.

An honest review highlighting the visual beauty (and beautiful it is!) but also the utter disappointment that the gameplay is. I loved Trine 1 but hated the no-fun-at-all gameplay of Trine 2. Never touched this game again after completing it -which was little fun- and only completed it because I played with a friend. This makes some of the more annoying and stupid physics stuff/puzzles far less frustrating because as the reviewer said, you can outsmart/trick the game.

Its always really weird to put a person that didn't actually liked the game in the first place to review the directors cut of the game. Because now we have erratic different reviews on gamespot. The one from jane douglas, that really like the game, and now the one from carolyne petit that really didn't. I know jane douglas leave gamespot, but you could at least search for other person that agreed with that review. or remember that you are reviewing the directors cut, not Trine 2.

Ive played through this game and the goblin DLC, just finished today actually. Wanted to see what Gamespot had to say, and I'm disappointed. Trine 2 is a great game, the puzzles are challenging but also provide easy ways to get past for those who aren't as good at puzzle games. The visuals are beautiful. I've never seen lighting more dynamic or gorgeous in any other game (that I've played). The action, well, isn't the strong point. I agree that some of the "bosses" are not as dynamic as they could be, but none the less, they are challenging and fun. The story is great to me. You have to be a person that appreciates fantasy to really let it sink in. I haven't played the first Trine and I still understand what is going on. You can't just rush through this game, and you can't judge it only by its few weakpoints. Let the game sink in, and appreciate the beauty of the environment as you play.
@joshs699910 жыл бұрын
I also disagree with the reviewer's opinion on the combat, it is fluent and dynamic, you have many places to change the battle. You can even win a battle as the wizard by using his levitation and tricking enemies off of cliffs. Also, the whole scrambling up a cliff thing... Have you ever considered that you can catch the cliff and climb up. And the floaty jumping is part of the game's fantasy atmosphere. Of course you can't access the expansion after beating the main quest, how would it make any sense to jump into the the second story without completing the first. You can't expect a (comparatively) low budget indie game to fill all of your desires. And everyone has different opinions and not everyone will appreciate this game. It's just a fact of life that everyone thinks differently.
@JevousGaming11 жыл бұрын
3:15 This is the crux of the problem with both Trine and Trine 2. They're visually stunning and work well when they do, but the physics based puzzles get so messy at times, it's hard to know if you're doing it right and the game isn't working as it should, or if there's a different solution you should be looking for.

They aren't judges at all, I have no idea where you got that idea from anyway. They are expressing OPINIONS, and most of the time sports judges do have experience in what they are talking about. Carolyn is a god-damn journalist, meaning she is entitled to her own opinions. A video-game doesn't need to know about how a game is made, they are basing their opinion on whether or not they like the game themselves. I'm not manipulating anything, you just doesn't seem to know the opinions from judging

I don't really get the bad thing about having to try things out to get the solution to a puzzle. Portal 2 also had that, and probably many other puzzle games. How much fun would it be if you could just walk through every puzzle, seeing the solution right from the start? Pretty boring imo.
@nickmotsarsky438210 жыл бұрын
Huh? That's not what he's saying..
@JeroxB10 жыл бұрын
Nick Motsarsky 03:37 'you can waste a lot of time experimenting with bad ideas or give up on sound ideas that didn't work because you didn't have all the pieces in exactly the right spot'. Isn't that the idea behind puzzle games? Trying things out until you get things in exactly the right spot which allows you to solve a puzzle? Seems kinda silly to me to count that as a negative. Chances are I'm understanding him incorrectly though.
@nickmotsarsky438210 жыл бұрын
JeroxB he's saying that the pieces have to be in such perfect positions that some people will get frustrated and abandon certain ideas believing that they don't work even though it may be the answer. There's a fine line between making puzzles fun or tedious.

Way to miss the point of Trine 2's simple story. The story is EXCELLENT, it's exactly what it should be, a very simple fairytale storyline, much like old folk tales and fairytales, simple, with little to no depth and straight to the point. That's the way it should be, the game is an interactive fairytale, everything about it is perfect.

I don't think the reviewer understands the whole concept of the game. Trine 2 gives you the freedom to solve the puzzles in the "proper" way, or just do what she says, which is to do a make-shift solution. But doing the make shift solution doesn't give the player a sense of satisfaction, whereas those who spend the time to solve the puzzle in the "proper" way get a real sense of accomplishment. Well, that's my take on the game anyway.

The he/she is right. While the game is absolutely gorgeous, the gameplay is clunky, and unrefined. The platforming has worse physics than LBP, and the puzzles are poorly conceived, and in a lot of cases, can be exploited by the game's physics. Bang on with the comment that you really don't feel a sense of accomplishment when advancing past sections of the game, and that it's puzzles feel more like a chore than anything. If you want a similar fairy tale-ish puzzle platformer, with amazing visuals, go grab "Puppeteer". Other than art style, the game does nothing right.

first of all, the reviewer is a guy. secondly, while he clearly didn't seem to grasp the concept of the game, he did make some valid points - many times puzzles can be solved accidentally, the physics can be glitchy at times, and the story isn't that great but, at least the story is descriptive considering how simple it is. i'm sure the game could be a little more tedious on wii but i doubt it.

Normally I quite like gamestop reviews and this one is just as shallow as Trine 2 apparently is. Trine 2 is significantly better than 6.5. The reasons for this score are just not justifiable and I completely disagree with it. It is worthy of at least an 8, even by some of the most cynical standards.

Man, you totally nitpicked this game apart and badgered it for the sake of giving it a bad review just to do your job as a game reviewer. The game is a puzzle game, and that is what you get when you play it. It's challenging yes, but if you're not up to it. It doesn't mean it's a bad game. PS. Yes, the visuals are stunning and that's what adds to it, not take it away or divert your attention from the puzzles. I give your review a fat 0

The fuck does age have to do with it? I'm 18 FYI and yes I play video-games. Your analogy is incredibly stupid because sports judges DO have experience in that sport or else how in the world can they critique something they don't know about? A review especially for video games is for the person to express their opinion on whether or not the game is good. The fact you brought COD into it was strange because of the lack of connection between them. You may not agree with them but move on!
