Thank you for covering the multiplayer. :) I know a lot of reviewers (specifically IGN) weren't concerned with it, but that's one of the most exciting new features to me.

I agree strongly with one of the points made by the reviewer. Map variety. It is lacking greatly, you might land in the country in egypt trying to take over alien ship, but the landscape will be green with lots of trees around you. When you're trying to make a game with global objectives, 5 different cookie cutter maps won't cut it.

Some things do bug me though - no base defending and forcing you to choose between 3 missions for instance. Also interceptions were a weak point of the original and they did nothing to change that, the UI for PC is rather questionable... But that aside, man, is it a great game indeed. Glad to hear more old-school fans are enjoying this.

Being in cover makes you harder to hit. The chances of hitting an enemy, though, are affected by a number of things, such as range and the angle of the shot. It doesn't matter if your in full cover if the enemy is shooting you from the side. The only time an enemy can't shoot you, is when they can't see you, which means you can't shoot 'em, either. If you cant hit the beserker, adjust your firing angle etc. Also, heavies ain't the best at aiming. Trying giving him a Scope

Is it a challenging game that you can lose (lose to the point you have to restart)? YES Is this game for everyone? NO Does multiplayer have to be the focus on all games? NO Originally, I was worried this game would be a dumb down EZMODE version of the original game. However, they did simplify (not dumb down) certain aspects of the game, it still keeps its difficulty and the ability to lose. Its possible to lose, where you need to restart. The Ironman mode enhances this. So far its great!

Those technical issues CAN be very distracting. I have the game for PS3, and when I'm about to do a mission and I'm selecting my squad, I get... double squad members that appear in the way, i.e. some randomly generated rookie just standing in the way of who's actually in my squad, making it hard to tell who I have unless I look at them individually. It's not THAT big of a deal, but it's still very annoying. Does anyone else have that issue?

8.5 is a fair score. There are a lot of random bugs and annoyances in the game. One thing I find irritating is some of the combat settings. Fighting in India should look like India not the streets of Chicago.

Starcraft 2 isn't a strategy game. It's a real time tactics game. XCom is a real strategy game and turned based tactics game aswell.

I think this one is far more challenging than the original. I couldn't imagine anyone having difficulty with the original XCOM. It really is not that hard at all.

Depends how long it take you, RTS games are (for me at least) usually around 24 hours at a minimum

It's very accessible, you can pick it up quickly, but It is quite deep and so takes a while to master.

Repreating maps, okay it is a drawn game there could had been more. but in TV series with a similar tactical battle sceario like COMBAT ! in the late Fifties-early Soxties the fellows went almost every week through the same or a similar scenario also: COMBAT !" is also withe several conplete episodes on KZbin.

It's boardgamified. Jack Solomon (lead designer) and Sid Meyer (you should know who that is) made board-game prototypes to figure out a system for this new x-com. And this 2-point action system is very boardgamey. Maybe you haven't played boardgames and only pc game, but I think this new approach is cool (mind you, I'm a 100% PC gamer, juts not an elitist). I don't think that Firaxis, creators of Civ and Alpha Centauri are here to dumb down strategy. 2 choises mean they are both crucial choises.

I've never played original X Com games , but I like this one. I am little bit disappointing in the story line though... The main story line of the game is ridiculously short and little bit over the top (will not give any spoiler) . Also this game have some kind of limitations that I don't agree: for instance , you can pass inventory items during mission (this is very stupid), randomizing class selection, so my soldiers turn into useless sniper class that i hate. Game is good, but need expsnsn.

I liked Syndicate co-op. Was as fun as Left4dead, but no dlcs no new support... But the campaing was a waste. Yet, this is so welcome. I think the last turn based strategy i played was tom clancy´s endwar and that´s old, i loved the voice commands (f++++ Kinect, just mic). Such a lack of games in this genre and space sim and truly horror games.

Dude, there's no actual strategy in base building "strategy" games. They're all dependent on who can build the best units first and the most of them, after which the match is all but over. REAL strategy gives you a preset number o assets to work with and you have to use what you have to full efficiency. THAT is strategy, not zerg rushing your opponent every fucking game.

What is the point of cover in this game? I can be in full cover for an entire game and the aliens won't still won't miss a single shot. Meanwhile a berserker can be 4 squares away from a heavy yet I will only have a 55% chance to hit?
