I think the shock is what gets most people. HLL is a fps where almost all strategies you'd use in an fps not only don't apply but actively make your time worse. Quick scoping, always running all the time, holding down the trigger on automatics to win every fight, running and gunning like Rambo all over the place. All of it will just get you wrecked until you rage. It's more of a milsim than a standard fps game, take it slow, move carefully and with calculated purpose, be willing to give up on a kill streak so you can hide and capture the point, talk to your squad or commander rather than just going blind. I was able to take an entire point by myself because I was actively communicating with our artillery, dude used my troop markers to lay waste to dozens of guys which in turn allowed me to run up and dismantle their spawn point. Technically 2 people ended multiple squads because I wasn't being k/d obsessed and it helped the team push the final objective and win. The learning curve is brutal no doubt about it, but a lot of that is just retraining your brain to not treat every gun fight like it's a Hollywood action flick. Plus not having to dump 20 rounds of my 30 round mag just to kill one dude is really nice.
