You know what I'd honestly like to see from these types of indie horror games? The supposedly sweet, innocent, child-friendly mascots... actually BEING sweet, innocent, child-friendly mascots. They're not subverted, they're not secretly evil, they don't have any hidden agenda; if anything, they hate being used as a front for darker things and want it to stop, with the player character helping them. My Friendly Neighborhood is the closest example I can think of for someone trying to do this, but even then the mascots where pretty dangerous until you appeased them, and there was the whole 'Unfriendly Neighborhood' section where they were outright violent.

One of my own stories is going in this direction - I think - though there's also a couple of fake-outs early on where anyone who has experienced a mascot horror before will say that the enemy is definitely one or more of the mascots.

My Friendly Neighbourhood is a great example, sure some of the mascots were still aggressive like typical horror game mascots, not to mention the whole 'Unfriendly Neighbourhood' thing, but that was just because they were influenced by watching all the violent things on TV, which honestly sends a really good message about the dangers of unsupervised television and corporate greed. Unless you meant like a game where the mascots aren't violent at all, then honestly that'd also be very interesting. Like a game where the player and the mascots work together to clean the mascot's names so they aren't being seen or used as some kind of 'horror' to everyone.

I'm 37 yo, and the part in 3:20 about letting babies crying until they stop was how my parents behaved as I was an infant. I remember that even as a teenager, I was plagued with nightmares of slowing dying alone without having anyone close enough to give me the help to survive. I realized it after going through some psychotherapy, which explains a lot of my social anxieties. Its crazy how such things can affect someone's life that much.

i think the only way this wouldn’t be the case is if Sarah’s dad did in fact stay in the commune and Debbie stayed in touch with him for a while after her birth. At that age you’re more likely to trust the person you’re in a relationship with, so I could see a situation where she didn’t realize he wasn’t on her side as immediately as Tom assumed and they were using him to get information about Debbie and Sarah until Debbie realized what was going on and cut contract completely.

To me, it looks like Kids Media Workshop is taking that approach to help with trauma processing, but doing it in an exploitive way.

Sorry, I've never heard of this, despite having gone to therapy. I hate to be that person, but the pentagram and upside down cross aren’t demonic symbols. Modern media forced it that way, and I’m pretty sure that’s what the developers were also trying to do. The pentagram (before it was transformed into the occult and demonic symbol) was an early Christian symbol representing the five wounds of Jesus Christ. (His hands, his feet, and his side). Which is why many early Catholic Churches have the symbol. The upside down cross represents Saint Peter, he didn’t want to be crucified the same way as Jesus Christ. He believed he wasn’t worthy and didn’t want to take His thunder (so to speak), so he was crucified upside down. Again, I hate being that person. But I don’t like how these Christian symbols are used to describe demonic things based on false pretenses that Hollywood and social media tried to twist it to be.

I'm still bummed matpat left but your carrying the channel amazingly! ❤️ I don't know if you take comments for theory suggestions but there's this mobile game I think might be packed with lore! I don't know how new it is but I'd love to hear a theory about the mobile (maybe also pc idk) game called 'nameless cat'. It's a super fun puzzle game where you play as a cat. You, the player, have to go around jumping over deadly plants, spikes, etc. and you avoid and run away from big red (sometimes blue and black) monsters. You also move boxes and teleport with these crosses/flowers. There are also other friendly creatures like a jellyfish and a human with cat ears and tail that you can talk to. Well, more listen to because you can't talk. I won't bother you with it but I'd love to see a theory about it!

Honestly I like the developers come in with additional hints to help when the fandom hits a brick wall with their ARG; I like a good mystery as much as the next person, but having a bunch of loose threads before a game release that aren't solved in the game itself can lead to players being distracted or annoyed. Good on the Giggleland Devs.

This is a game that I want to play as soon because it isn't following the usual trends you see with mascot horror like multi-chapter money grabs, it has an amazingly done Arg and I like the direction it shows so far with the steam page of the game not only being important for the lore for the world outside of it but tells you there is something really strange in the game with the screenshots, not even mentioning that the Arg hints at the park not being real with KMW's website not mentioning Giggleland at all and the website for Giggleland not saying its a recreation of a park but I feel the game might continue following the theme of not doing as you're told because the third mirror screenshot shows an error for the Eliot model moving where it isn't supposed to be, sorry for talking so much but this Arg has me hooked and I want to see what happens next.
