Good catch, it's barely in frame at all. Also, they didn't notice that the wrappings on Link's wrists are very similar to OoT Ganondorf's wrist and ankle wraps, possibly linking Link to the Gerudo or even the desert in general. Might just be coincidence, however, as new Link's feature a square wave pattern while Ganondorf's were rectangles. Same colors though.

Confirmed for where it is in the timeline. It's right before Wind Waker (And I allready wanted to say that by seeing the pillars in the distance (which you can see in Hyrule in Wind Waker when you go to Ganon's Tower)) The sword is the exact same as the hero's sword from Wind Waker (not excalibur, but the very first sword you get in Wind Waker)

Sorry, but Aonuma said it was in-game ENGINE. Let me clarify that. Play any 3D Zelda, do you see graphical changes from the cutscenes to the gameplay? No. Do you play while in a cutscene? No. That's because the gameplay and the scenes are made the same way (engine), but you can't do things that happen in them. That said, the game may be this beautiful yes, but destructible enviroments and the animations are too far-fectched for real time. The game cannot have puzzles with the destructible mechanics, it's counterproductive for the sequencing, and the animations are just too flashy for simple tasks, making them impossible to implement outside the context of a cutscene.

I was mildly disappointed to learn this shot no longer exists in the actual game. You can see the inside of the taller of Duelling Peaks, which should put Link in the northwest corner of the map looking southeast. Yet there's a volcano to Link's right, when the only volcano in the real game is Death Mountain, which should be to Link's left.
@raileon6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't need to be this way, they could've changed the Duelling Peaks in a few days. If you look at it from a different angle, it matches up pretty well. At least Death Mountain, Hyrule Castle, Duelling Peaks and Fort Hateno. They even talk about what we now know as Fort Hateno at 3:26. Putting this all together would end up Links position somewhere near Hateno. Which could mean that Hateno village was intended as a starting location for the game at some point in early development. (The Game Awards 2015 footage also started at Hateno village!)

Judging by the lasers, as well as the grass and moss covering it, it is safe to assume that the monster is not really a monster at all, but is in fact an ancient robot that has somehow been reactivated after spending an extremely long time in it's deactivated state.
@TheSilentZebra6410 жыл бұрын
Here's what I think happened: Link is a bandit and is stealing this incredible technology. This would explain why "Link" is wearing a cloak over his head as to not let people see "his" face. The large mechanical monster was created to guard the technology for several years, which is why it's covered in moss and chasing after Link. The fact that link has camping supplies as if he is "drifting" also supports the theory that he is a wanted outlaw or criminal. Another thought is that this takes place in the dried ocean of The Wind Waker. This would explain why the land is so HUGE, much like the ocean in WW. Also explaining why this hero is wearing a blue tunic, much like Link from Wind Waker was at the beginning of that game. I predict that this hero is the same as in Wind Waker, or descendant of that Link. Something else that's interesting is this Hero's hair. See how he has hair in front of each of his ears? Well that's exactly how Princess Zelda wears her hair. She usually has 2 long braids in front of each of her ears. What could this mean? Thanks for reading, and please everyone reply with what you think about this.
@theportablegamer967410 жыл бұрын
It is likely that this takes place in a dried Great Sea. Besides Link's tunic color, if the "Link" in this trailer is actually a thief, and wears "his" hair like that, it could be a descendant of Tetra, who instead of being a pirate, is a thief, but it was the actual Link that wore the blue tunic. Sorry if my expansion of his theory is hard to understand, I tried to explain it as clearly as possible, but I don't know exactly how it came off, haha.
@yoloswaggings393410 жыл бұрын
ThePortableGamer I understand it. It could also be said that the cloak/tunic was passed down the WW Link and that this Link is descended from Link and Tetra together.
@chrisd922910 жыл бұрын
I think this is at the begining of the game after Link or the player is introduced to the common enemy type, or maybe this is helping that scene. Link is carrying his bow and arrow, probably expecting to something, maybe tasked with finding this monster by either the village, the hyrule soldiers or Zelda herself and when he finds it the cutscene is triggered, and maybe it wasnt even the monster he was looking for, maybe it was something more intellegent like some sort of Ganon's underlings (which would explain him wearing the coat) but he gets caught up by a monster and after he destroys it, the underling reveals him/herself.
@CidPsy10 жыл бұрын
Well a lot of controversy has appeared regarding of when and where this next game is going to be, many hinted it might on the Wind Waker's timeline due to the blue cloths. But we still got to wait and see. On the matter of his hair on each ear; thats a basic Link's design, if you have seen other official artworks of other Link's then you will notice they all have em; some smaller or larger than others. The newest thing on his look is the pony tail, which im totally fine with; I have seen some Links that had its hair long enough to do a pony, even if it was a small one.

Pause the video exactly at 11:40. You'll see link's sword in its sheathe next to the special blue arrow. Which I also believe to be a "time arrow" similar to the time stones in skyward sword. This guy reminds me of those little robots who loved Fi. When the arrow hits the monster, it freezes it in time. Just my guess. I also think this takes place after skyward sword. And I'm still holding out hope for a twilight sequel or a dark Zelda game in general. It's been 7 years since they made a game for the child timeline. Either way. This is hands down the most beautiful video game I have ever seen. Period.

Links ambiguous gender, different hair style, and lack of the Hero's Tunic, gives me the idea of a "Possibility" of some slight character customization? Maybe we can choose our gender, and find armor. With the world of Hyrule expanding to be a potential RP sandbox like world, maybe Nintendo is looking to introduce other RP elements. It's no secret that people like to customize their character. It's an easy means to invest one into a game, and personally something I love.
@Cjamhampton10 жыл бұрын
I doubt the gender part because that may cause problems in the story. There have always been certain parts that link did because he was male. If you can customize your gender then that might point to multiple ending/paths.
@OreallyR1710 жыл бұрын
Jared Hampton I'd agree with you, but as of right now we know nothing of the story, when the story takes place, what timeline it's in, is Zelda or/and Gannon going to be in this one? If the story doesn't follow the tradition of "Save the Princess, get the Triforce, beat the Bad Guy" then why should we expect Link needs to follow the same Gender role he has in past games? So far this game is about breaking from the bad habits and traditions it's accumulated. Giving us Gender selection would be a step in the right direction. I'm no feminist, but if I was a girl, I'd want to play as a Girl.

It's not a Ponytail, it's called a Queue, and it's always been a male hairstyle. It used to be the standard for many cultures that didn't rely on close quarter combat, or when cutting the hair short wasn't always an option - when not taken care of, the hair tends to break off when it grows out, so the Queue tends to maintain its own length. It could be Zelda, but that's not really enough to base it on.

I look at Link here and I think: nomadic hunter. His way to shoot a bow is reminescent of mongolians, and he's pretty much got his house on his saddle. At what point does it makes sense for hylians to be nomadic hunters? Well, it could be shortly after their settlement in a new place. A lot of the structures suggest mesoamerindian themes, sugesting this "new world". Add to this the fact that Link is right handed like the one from skyward sword, and that his traits are very similar to Zelda from skyward sword, and that these two characters decided to settle on earth after defeating demise. There was also "ancient technology" in that universe. Overall, my suspicions are that this is 25-100 years after the events of Skyward sword, with link being a child or relative of the other Link (not him because he looks 14-15). Of course this goes in oposition with the hyrule castle, if we did see it. Every game so far has had this one core mechanic: adult vs. child, masks, dark vs. lightworld, and so on. From this trailer I expect that a large amount of the puzzles will exploit the "horseman - on foot" duality (a bit like the boat) with items being used differently either or. We can also expect the horse to accompagny you through some dungeons. I could see the equipement you carry being extremely limited (e.g. two items and some munitions) while on foot with your horse acting as some kind of "hub" for all of us hoarders. In skyward sword Demise promises that he (like zelda) will shed his divine essence to reincarnate into a man, and try to overpower them using the triforce (like hylia did with him). We could therefore see the first incarnation of Ganondorf here (link does have the gerudo vambraces), and the character developpement could be his struggle between his demon nature, and his goal to take the triforce, versus his human nature and his desire to... idk love or something. (Interestingly, both ganondorf and groose have red hair). In skyward sword we did see Zelda struggle between her affection for Link and her duty as a reincarnation of Hylia. I think it'd be an awsome twist to have a Ganondorf be your age and be timid or weak or something (perhaps you could even save his life like Colin). Link also wears a scarf that makes me think of Sheikah. If it indeed is after skyward sword Impa is dead, but perhaps they are a tribe akin to gerudos that are actually a faction. If the day night cycles are longer, I see an oportunity for something every zelda player loves: miscellanous items! The bed could actually be an item you acquire to pass time. If it is so large, there'll be a necessity for fast travel, either through music (plz nintendo put an instrument with songs plz plz), or through, idk, a set of maps that you find / purchase. I can definitelly see crafting be a thing (expecially since they started doing it in SS), expecially with the theme of a nomadic culture. The nomadic culture makes me hope for more "tools" to be integrated in the items, like the fishing rod or the shovel (weaponised?). Perhaps stealth sections wouldn't be out of place, and a stealth related item would perhaps make sense. And of course, rock climbing gear, or gloves. Because a large world can pi... you of if you bump into stuff you can't get over every two minutes. Now we need to think of ways in which they will integrate the second screen. I wouldn't be surprised to see it used as a first person while third person (facilitating horseback archery). I think I just accidentally wrote a short essay.
@ManuelZuzek10 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory, but I think you went a little bit too far though. About Ganondorf, it's worth noting there aren't several incarnations of him - Ganondorf is just one guy, who was several times sealed away, killed and revived, but he's always the same. That said, he had his origin story in Ocarina of Time, so any game prior to that can't have him around.
@maxspecs10 жыл бұрын
***** Ganondorf is simply one man, born the only male in 100 years to a tribe of all females. Demise, on the other hand...is quite literally a malevolent force of negativity that can control others, and is a god on par with Hylia herself. It's likely that he infused himself into Gannondorf, as well as most, if not all of Link's other big opponents. Demise, combined with the Triforce of Power, is what keeps Gannondorf alive despite losing a physical body, and allows him to revive time and time again.

This is a long comment, but I would appreciate it if you read it. I am really grabbing a theory out of the blue here, but could this be Link's sister? This would explain the feminine look and the preference to a bow. Honestly, how many women do you see with a sword? I do know that Princess Zelda prefers one. I have some evidence to back it up. Link has a sister named Ariel in Wind Waker, she puelled here hair back, although she pulled it back into pigtails. Link has traditionally been a lefty. Most people I tell this to say that Link is a righty, I just tell them to look up pictures of Link and pay more attention when they play games. However, there is contradicting evidence. If you pause the video at 10:25 you can see Link's traditional earing. Since they re-made Twilight Princess for the WII, Link has been a righty due to there being more righty's than lefty's. This can be more clearly seen where Link is a lefty in the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess and is a righty in the WII version of Twilight Princess. "Link" having a bow could also contribute to freedom of decision. With the freedom of choices and their consequences and different events, could choosing to master the bow lead to different events? This part is just what I think will happen. The game starts with "Link" sleeping in (as usual). You are awoken by screaming. You see people running in chaos and read that there is a monster on the lose. Being the possible protector/scout of the village you ride up to intercept it. When you go to your horse, you are stopped and told to protect yourself. You can choose between a bow or a sword. (each choice begins a tutorial). Which ever you choose right then and there, is your first story line changing event. (You will most likely have to master which ever weapon you choose later on in the game.) The tutorial just happens to have "Link" choose the bow. This whole thing could be contradicted by the villagers. This could be because the news just hasn't reached the people working out by the fields. Choosing the bow or sword will affect the storyline because it will affect your skill with each and the events that happen. If you choose to train with the bow first, you will have more skill with the bow because you have used it longer, and you won't have enough time to fully develop the skill with the sword. The mastery can also effect the way you attack dungeons, and it will cause you to change the way you approach boss fights and the eventual final fight. This is a completley different theory. What if the appearence of "Link" is a further customizing option. Most Zelda games allow you to name your save file, this is what the NPCs will call you. What if, along with changing your name, you can customize what you/Link looks like. This is a crazy thought, but that might explain why "Link" looks the way he does in the trailer. You might also be able to make your own crest, hence the blanket.

He has a sword. Look at the screenshot at 9:47. Now look at the big arrow Link is about to use. You can see the tip of the sword coming out from behind/underneath the arrow. It almost looks as if the blade is a part of the arrow itself, but after link pulls out the arrow and is about to fire it, you can clearly see that the blade is not sticking out of the front of the arrow. You can see the sword more easily when it shows Link grabbing the arrow, as for a split second the sword is revealed, although it is sheathed.

Wow, you guys really can find a lot of details, I had a feeling when watching the trailer with it being small the GameXplain would still have a lot to work with, but wow. I have a feeling a number of things will be this trailer only, but I hope a number of the gameplay and world stuff are kept. Probably will have Link take on this particular enemy without the cool toys or skills yet, and then open up the world then, and add in some of the cool stuff over time. Anyway I tend to take a while to actually finish them, but I think I might feel ready to complete Skyward Sword since I know a new one is coming. And maybe get Wind Waker HD since I did not get a chance to really play Wind Waker and I bought a Wii U yesterday.

Hey GameXplain, I wanted to point out a couple of things I noticed in the trailer that you guys may have missed. One is that Link may have a sword underneath that special arrow of his. This is either after skyward sword or end of the timeline with wind waker judging by art style. Its like a combo of cell shading and skyward sword visually. There were leaks where the game was given the total Zelda 2 so what if its a sequel to skyward sword?

I commend you guys for noticing tons of details but most of your speculation seems far-fetched, especially the part about Link being a symbolic Mononoke character. All you have to back this up is his horse (Which is a standard in 3D zeldas) the color of his clothing, his hairdo and his used weapon. Hardly enough to go on such a massive tangent. Keep it coherent, guys. P.S.: Tell the first guy to talk a little slower. it might eliminate the need for captions.
@TimeSplitterU10 жыл бұрын
I'm not a native speaker and can understand Andre (the first guy) just fine. Though for some non-native speakers captions can be helpful. And have you ever thought about that the captions could be for hearing impaired people?

Time Splitter U I have seen a lot of comments around this channel complaining about the talking. He doesn't have the mouth to talk this fast and he still tries to, I can not understand him, though I didn't need captions for the second guy because he was calm and collected, unlike Andre.

When I first saw the trailer at E3 my first thought was "this is making me want to watch Princess Mononoke" Not merely because of Link's appearance but also the bow & arrow was what was shown off, as well as the setting, and the whole chase scene was reminiscent of a scene in the movie.

It's probably because it's relatable. They want people watching this to understand where the reference comes from so it makes sense to reference a popular game. It's not a case of scoring points because you compare it to a more obscure title, or even the original, it's just simply to give everyone watching a better idea of how the game might play.

Based on the similar version of Hyrule Field, as well as the goats, I think this might be a sequel to Twilight Princess
@twilitetra924510 жыл бұрын
According to that logic it before or after pretty much everything. Goats aren't the best markers of time considering they could have been around for generations before or after the events in Twilight Princess occurred. And geography tends to change a lot in the Zelda series. In OoT, Hyrule Field was a large circular field, whereas in TP, it consisted of three provinces with narrow paths and mountains in between.
@Dualgas10 жыл бұрын
The forest area is also similar to Twilight Princess, the ruins are possibly the Temple of Time, and Beamos were one of the enemies in that dungeon. Also, the cloak is similar to Midna's. I think that this either takes place a while after TP or that this is a direct sequel and in the final game Link will be older, the Ordon won't have those hats, and the landscape will resemble TP more.
@twilitetra924510 жыл бұрын
This far in development, I think the majority of the landscape is going to remain pretty much the same. They need to start working on other things if they want it out by 2015. Maybe the layout of towns and temples will be tweaked or changed altogether, but I doubt they would change the big picture too much. And since they want the game to be open. I doubt the landscape will be very similar to TPs because while the overworld in that game was massive, it wasn't very open.

At around 6:00 Derik mentions the snake and dragon statues, and I noticed the snake statue looks very similar to the statues that could be found in the temple around the volcano volcano in Skyward Sword, and here is my theory, the volcano in skyward sword could have become active, causing an eruption. That eruption could have destroyed the interior and everything around the volcano, blasting that statue over to that area. Going a step further, the desert around the volcano, could be the remains of the volcano's interior, having eroded into sand, thus created the "desert" around the volcano

Second, its hidden behind the third arrow when link reaches to grab it. again its hard to spot because it happened very quick. when you pause it at 11:40 you can see something behind the arrow. now she i first saw this i thought i was just apart of the arrow itself. however if you fast forward it just by a hair ( the time on this video should still read 11:40, it is actually a scabbard, something you use to sheath your sword. fast forward it some more a but the time should still read 11:40. link should now have the arrow in his hand, but the camera angle is still behind him. to the left side of the tip of the arrow, you can make out what seems to be a hilt of a sword.

Link has long sidelocks. If it's a boy, he looks pretty hot. If it's a girl, she looks pretty hot.

TheGoldenTortoise Well duh it's Link. The ponytail, long sidelocks, and eyelashes kinda makes Link look like a girl. Pretty hot either way. Again, no bi.
@TuWear10 жыл бұрын
L i z z L o v e r Ponytails and long side locks were not considered feminine then and nor are they considered feminine now. It doesn't make him look like a girl, everyone has eyelashes, they just prefer to make them visible on some characters over others and there are no real feminine features on Link either.

Khal Drogo has a ponytail, and if you think he looks feminine, i rest my case.

How does ANYONE come to the conclusion that "Link" is somehow a girl here? I just don't understand, there is literally nothing about it that makes him look feminine.
@AdlerSchwadron10 жыл бұрын
you must have never seen a guy in your life then
@YogiofEternalPeace10 жыл бұрын
AdlerSchwadron Link has always been somewhat skinny, without facial hair, and has long hair the only thing different here is a slight change in hair style more notably the ponytail that everyone seems to point out. Ponytails on men while rare in modern American societies are rather common in Native Tribes of the past as well as in many Asian cultures of the past. Legend of Zelda has never been modern and is a series originating in Japan. If you want to talk about anatomy the Link represented here is likely around 18 years of age based on appearance has a flat chest and hips haven't widened and he has broad shoulders since apparently he is so "feminine".

DarkChaosGames As big as a Zelda fan and Link Fangirl that I am, I must admit that Link has always been a touch feminine. It true me off when this design of him was revealed but, looking closely...that is a man
@InkMossDragon10 жыл бұрын
Hunter Ben Nah, I don't think they would do that. But when the screen shot is shown in another angle you can really see that it's Link
@MrAnonymous40610 жыл бұрын
DarkChaosGames It s not the hair or the body its the face particularly the cheeks their too rose tinted , the jaw line is less pronounced than it usually is and the eyebrows are too thin this is something the can fix b4 release and they probably will, everything else looks great probably the best art style for Zelda thus far.

The whole thing about the time of day was fucking dumb, of course the time doesn't change, it's a minute of gameplay, if that.
@ilovethelegend10 жыл бұрын
***** ...Because it did? Have you ever played OoT or WW? The sun dawns for... twenty seconds, at most, thirty in WW, and you can SEE it moving. I'll give you that the day/night cycle in TP was a bit longer, but that's because the field was bigger. While I doubt that this one'll have an hour-long day night cycle, I can see it taking sometime to get from sunrise to sunset (and moonrise to moonset).
@Xaasrevile10 жыл бұрын
I'd have a hard time believing day/night cycle would last less than 5 minutes in this game like it did in Ocarina of Time.
@Random156710 жыл бұрын
ilovethelegend The day/night cycle in TP was a hell of a lot longer than any Zelda before it. So this game will also likely have a similarly or even longer cycle than Twilight Princess.
@infernos3310 жыл бұрын
***** A bigger (open) world usually means a longer day/night cycle. Also, the time could have been stopped just for that demo; devs can do that stuff.

so far I think everything about the game looks and seems incredible, it does have so much potential! great analysis too, but if I can just say one thing, he does have a sword and you can see it at 10:38 as he is pulling out the blue arrow. the blue arrow was just covering it. This game seems like it's gonna be awesome!

about that Link, he didnt looked female to me, but rather, Teen like, maybe this is how Link looks in his 12+ years, i think more like 14, just saying, we´ve seen Young Link and Adult Link in a 3D enviorment, so why not Teen Link? about that special arrow, it seamed to me that the part was straped to the en of the arrow, like Link found the piece, figured how to make it work, what it did, and strap it to the end of the arrow, and maybe, that was what the monster (more like mechanical machine) was looking for, like it was actually guarding ruins where that technology was and cause Link, or someone, took something important from it, it activated, but since it had been so long it took it a while, and once he was out he serched for the signatures of the same type of technology (but seeing as this is a Zelda game, Techno Magic?) and since Link was closer, he went to him i like that idea though, that you could upgrade the equipment, i liked that a lot in Skyward Sword
@Hakayami10 жыл бұрын
i llike the idea. Miyamoto said he prefer young link while Aonuma prefer adult Link. It could be a good compromise between these two

Marie Lemieux Not just games dude freaking ancient history would prove it's smarter to shoot your foe or prey from farther than run up and try and stab it. Has nothing to do with what's between your legs. Also in Japan young men just have more feminine faces compared with western men or better put men and women in Japan don't differ too extremely in facial features at a young age. It's irritating when these journalists don't take into account that the art designers not just the producers are also Japanese therefore design it according to their culture. And really the whole Zelda fan base in general.
@juicemaybe46559 жыл бұрын
Marie Lemieux I meant in general but sure. Either way nothing to do with gender.
@chrisgianino61879 жыл бұрын
he does have a sword, it is just very hard to spot. the sword is on the other side of the horse, rather than with the shield. you can see a scabbard (something you sheathe your sword in) when he is reaching for the third arrow. the sword is actually hidden behind the third arrow and you can see it but it happens so quick. somewhere around 11:40
@juicemaybe46559 жыл бұрын
Chris Gianino That's right, I believe they mentioned their error in their new video after people pointed it out. I was simply saying either bow or sword have nothing to do with gender. From a physical stand point, on a historical level and really just based on common sense.
@Lupinthe64th10 жыл бұрын
GXP, you missed 3 things: 1) Link is actually carrying a sword, which can be seen from a specific angle when the camera cuts to an upper view of Link and Epona. 2) Link's cloak is actually strikingly similiar to Ganondorf's cloak from Wind Waker. 3) The rock on the right where Link is escaping from the monster in the forest may actually be the Helmaroc King. With this in mind, and its artstyle, I believe this Zelda may take place before WW, after SS or between PH and ST (with the focus on exploration of Neo-Hyrule).
@RPGchallenger10 жыл бұрын
I hope links a lefty this time...But since he's holding the bow with his left hand then he's probably a right handed swordsmen again. If you were left handed you would hold the bow with the right hand and pull the arrow with your left.
@Purpletrident10 жыл бұрын
He only wasn't in Skyward Sword because of motion controls.
@RPGchallenger10 жыл бұрын
PurpleTrident I know, but he is still holding the bow with his left hand which is what right handed people do.
@MrAnonymous40610 жыл бұрын
Link was original intended to be right handed but due to a mistake in coding in the Original legend of Zelda for the NES the made him left handed and kept it that way ever since
@Purpletrident10 жыл бұрын
RPGchallenger And the placement of the sword on the horse makes it look like he's left handed too. Guess we'll have to wait until actual gameplay comes out.
@wraithlordkoto10 жыл бұрын
In Skyward Sword, didn't link Swing his sword with his right hand and shoot the bow with the left? If I remember correctly someone said link was ambi-dexterous but preferred his left, I think it was a cover up for a bug that caused link to hold his sword with different hands in one of the 2D games depending on which way you faced.

I think you may also be able to choose a horse at some point in the game, which is suggested at by the horse holding little resemblance to Epona. I also think it would be likely there could be more overworld customization too, because in the beta of Oot there was going to be an option to plant trees.
