My thoughts exactly, I can't even imagine what its like to lose a arm let alone cope with it so well. I remember a lady I was in rehab with breaking down and crying because she lost both her legs in a car crash, I can only imagine the beginning was just as hard for Champutee. I broke 3 limbs getting ejected out of a car. Seat belt snapped in half(luckily, engine ended up in the drivers seat), only had a functioning right leg, took 3 months before I could walk or use my hands mostly correctly. Relearning how to use you body is not easy, mad props to this kid dealing with a amputation so well.

I always love seeing disabled creators show up on my feeds. My late brothers both had Duchenne Muscularly dystrophy and particularly with the one who lived till 33, his conditions and complications were so specific and complex there wasn't any sort of adaptive controller that could suit his needs. He did most of his gaming using his phone casting it to the TV in his room. One of the most optimistic and friendly people anyone could ever meet. Anyway, here's my sub 💜 can't wait to see more!

A friend of mine had part of his foot amputated last summer and just had a relapse last month due to an infection. I know how tough that can be from a secondary pov on a partial basis. You're doing super well. When i was on Facebook a few years ago there used to be a really interesting group of people that made their own control devices, not just modded for single hands, but also for none or other extreme movement disabilities. I wish i could remember what they were called. Goodness knows theyre probably on discord. If it comes back to me ill come back and leave it here. What you have now seems like an amazing solution, though. Good luck to you, and excellent video!

The idea of the custom built controller with the joystick underneath is cool, but would be really good might be a second stick with a cable running to it, where you control the right stick with your tongue. Your tongue has a lot of dexterity, so as long as you had stuff to help keep it clean it would be pretty elegant, your left hand does 95% of the work and the tongue could just aim or move.

I've been curious about this topic for a long time. I do remember playing a few levels in Mario Galaxy 2 with one hand, but that's because of my creative solution to a few levels. Some of the levels have enemies in hard to reach places, so I would control Mario with a Wiimote and nunchuck in my right hand and control the OP second player with my left hand to defeat the enemies. My position was to have the nunchuck upside-down under my Wiimote, and I would squeeze the nunchuck and Wiimote together to press the z button. I couldn't easily hit the b button though, so my creativity only worked in small situations.

Computer wise I had it easy because Razer Nagas exist. I know it's rough as hell finding left handed solutions, though. One could take apart the Xbox controller, detach all the button and joystick components, solder them on separate circuits, and position them into an ergonomic flight stick schematic with a custom 3d printed plastic cover to hold it all in place. The main thing would be to move the R joystick at the base while keeping the L joystick on top where the thumb would be. Not sure why everyone refused to make it easier on themselves but instead make dorito sticks...

I had a classmate who was missing an arm. Felt awkward asking him about it, but he said it was alright and that he was born without one. Seeing someone who is missing an arm from an accident is just a tad different. Can't imagine what your experience was like losing it, but I'm glad to see that you can get to a point where you can shrug it off. You can totally get by with one arm, there's just more steps. Hope you find your optimal gaming controller setup.

very very likely that is likely the easiest way to do it since doing it via something like USB would mean having two USB capable boards you'd have to program to interact with each other and that's very possible but annoying.

It's because he was raised with love and support by his caregivers in childhood. That is the determining factor at your "resilience" to hardships. If you were raised to be afraid of your caregivers. Being abused, be it emotionally invalidated and neglected, then your brain develops in such a way that it "Resists" a hardship occuring, and that "Resistance" causes inner turmoil, which leads to self-defeat, and then leads to su!cidality.

Hey @janczor6584, I hope this message finds you well! I am a graduate student conducting research on making virtual reality interactions for gaming accessible for gamers who self identify as having any upper limb impairment that hinders their gameplay experience. Your girlfriend's insights could be invaluable to us! We're conducting a study on accessible Virtual Reality (VR) gaming interactions and are reaching out to gamers with upper limb impairments who share a love for gaming. We believe your girlfriend's unique perspective could help us forge a more inclusive gaming future. If your girlfriend spends around 4 hours per week gaming on any platform, is 18 years or above, and speaks English, we would love to hear from them. Their input on VR gaming and interactions, as well as any thoughts on controller mods, could make a significant impact. As a token of our appreciation, we're offering a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card, and you don't need prior VR gaming experience to participate. Ready to take the plunge? Click the link below to dive into our survey: cil.csit.carleton.ca/accessiblevr/ If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to connect with me directly at manyakakkar@cmail.carleton.ca. Your contribution could help shape the future of gaming for individuals with upper limb impairments. Looking forward to hearing from you and, hopefully, having you on board!
