This was one of the most underrated RTS games...over shadowed by age of empires which was released around the same time. But the depth was amazing! Can train and upskill people, do trading etc. Way ahead of its time...

can't agree more. It is my first game. I was amazed by its complicity and dynamic economic system. My first loss was selling my throne to AI because I don't know what the word "throne" means until I saw the picture of bodies scattered all over. This revolutionary game was far ahead of its age and it is a real shame that it was shadowed by Red alert and age of empire.

1997 first time, 2022 as of writing this. And sometimes, very rarely indeed, the AI still smashes me into oblivion. Some unexpected string of kingdoms surrendering to each other...and...it hurts to cede defeat!

I figured out how the AI makes it past the map filter. It puts spies in neutral villages where you have a fort, waits a few months, then infiltrates the fort from the nearby village because the travel time is near instant. Hence, you likely don't see it. II didn't have water and boats which made the game feel empty.
@tugrulserhat4 жыл бұрын
they added some more races to this game after release right ? I remember playing a version of it so long ago and not having egyptians, mughuls and zulus in the game

Yes. The original version was only called "Seven Kingdoms", while the one with added races is "Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries".

My favorite mode to play this was to split villages once you got 50-60 people and grow my kingdom to the point where the enemies would surrender :D.

I don't think I've ever seen that happen. I know it's possible to buy up AI kingdoms on lower difficulty settings, but I usually find it near impossible to do that when the AI is at the highest setting.

Yeah, spies can be highly useful in this game, but getting them into the right position to abuse any of their abilities is rather difficult. So much so that I tend to favor military conquest as a method of destroying enemies.

Never mind. Apparently I should have waited until after the 14 minute mark to make my comment, but I figured you'd have discussed the ability to convert people to your side by giving them jobs when you were discussing the ability to lower their resistance through generals of the same nationality or utilizing spies in order to lower their resistance to your rule.

Sensational game, but a ridiculously easy AI to exploit.
@thesacredlobo7 жыл бұрын
True. One my favorite tactics is to centralize all of my villages and military forces. That way I can surround the AI's small waves of troops with superior numbers. Of course, you can also blow up the target of an AI attack in order to get them to back down as well.

Dude the gameplay footage is absolutely terrible, the player puts peasants in forts instead of training soldiers, puts generals in forts next to towns of the wrong nationality, leaves soldiers surrounded to be killed, executes worthy immigrants for no reason, promotes incompetent soldiers for no reason, leaves forts unattended, mixes different nationalities in the same town, infiltrates spies on towns of the wrong nationality, and probably more I missed out. Also spies can be trained to be soldiers, they don't need to hope to be recruited as soldiers by the rival kingdom. And also, you can't put your goods in foreign markets, they have to do it themselves by buying your products from your market with their caravans, or you could just build your own market next to their city and supply it with goods to compete with the local market. Combat being simplistic is not a bad thing by itself considering how many more things the player has to keep in mind in this game. Battles can be really fun when two large armies collide and you try to keep your generals alive while trying to kill the enemy generals and avoiding to be surrounded, ambushed, or betrayed by another kingdom, while trying to keep up with all the other aspects of handling your kingdom and looking out for enemy spies. This game had an amazing depth for all its simple mechanics.
