Stronghold - Who doesn't want to build a castle? Every child's dream made real in a game that's easy to learn, but that can be enjoyed by adults as well, especially by those that need a game to relax, either by building their own citadel, or tearing down someone else's fortress.
(Game Description) Stronghold is a historic real-time strategy game developed by Firefly Studios in 2001. The game focuses primarily on conquest and expansion through military pursuits, but also provides space for economic strategy and development. There is both an economic and a military campaign to be played and both are discussed in the game manual. The game takes place in Medieval Britain around the time of 1066; however, since there is not always a time limit, scenarios can continue hundreds of years beyond that date

There should be a mod bringing this classic up to date! Would love to see a decentralized storage with pillaging mechanics, paying wages to the troops, formations, trade between players and so on! Also, improved AI and randomized maps!

An interesting classic game you could have a look at is Arx Fatalis. A sort-of spiritual sequel to Ultima Underworld with mood and setting done right!

This game was so good, so many hours on it. Played through the story several times, though never beaten all the maps at hardest difficulty. Though the multiplayer gameplay is sort of funny but not enjoyable imo. But damn all the other strongholds sucks balls so much, fucking hell. Talk about not understanding your own game design.

7:46 That's me in map editor alright xD Especially in Crusaders, where I'd just build a tower filled with slingers and have them mash a bunch of lions into a pulp from a safe distance... Kinda sad they got rid of the gore in the sequels tbh.

Stronghold 1's and Crusader's sole weakness is that the AI is just bad in skirmish mode ( campaign is a different story tho), it pretty much uses "horde mentality" which you means that you need to go against 2 or more allied AI players to find challenge (because on 1v1, after building your castle you just can't lose).

I wish we had another good Stronghold so bad...2 and Legends are not as half as good as 1 and Crusader 1,but Stronghold 3 and Crusader 2 are GOD-AWFUL.

I never understood the Stronghold 2 and Legends hate. I must have played Legends and 2 for a combined 1400 hours. Though crusader 2 I only played for 48 hours. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it, the feel just isn’t the same.

Shotguns ?! Who needs shotguns ? In Stronghold you have archers who can destroy stone walls and towers given time ! A single archer can destroy your entire castle. Shotguns ? Bah !
