I played this before the first two Monkey Island games so I didn't have any baggage. I loved the fun story and art, for me as a little kid it was just like being part of an awesome pirate cartoon. Great video!

I can still play it today and don't feel like this was released in 1997. The soundtrack is also still great to listen to.

I've played all of monkey island games in succession and I would say that Curse is my favourite. Sure, maybe it succeeds because it heavily hinges on the formula established in two previous installments, but still it is the funniest and I feel most at home any time I replay it.

My all-time favorite game. I thought the puzzles are plenty original, the story is super funny, the characters are incredibly quirky and I’d recognize those timeless visuals anywhere.

What other game will let you fling a corpse out of a murphy bed? The writers in this game did a great job, and the voice acting is superb. It's a game that really feels like it was a lot better than it needed to be.

I guess it's because this is the first one I played and I've played it many times, but this one is my favorite and I get very nostalgic about it. I only played the first two once each and about a decade after I played Curse.Still haven't played Escape or Tales yet. But I just love the art style in this one and the voice acting and soundtrack really sells it. Loving these videos.

This to me is the best game ever made. I played this as a little kid, and played it multiple times through the years, and till date no game has come close to snatching that title.

curse of monkey island is acually the first game in the series i played so i still love it even after playing the others. also i think mega monkey mode is what the devs wanted you to play. what makes me think that is at the hotel goodsoup makes a big deal that the door is locked up stars. in normal mode it's not locked. also you never use stan's card at all unless your playing mega monkey mode which unlocks said door.

This is my favorite videogame. It was the first monkey Island I ever played. I laughed so hard. Just now, watching these reviews, I realize people didn't like it. I guess it always depends on not having previous experiences to compare something to. Anyway, this game will always be one of my first true loves 🙂 Always a true love 🙂

This game is legendary. One of the best games ever made. Grim Fandango is not even close to this game in any way. Soundtrack and art style made it part of good quality childhood and nostalgia.

You're point about the snake puzzle is way off. The Monkey Island games regularly use cartoon physics, but they still have an element of logic to them. Opening a door in a snake's belly would be random, and completely against the way MI puzzles work. That would be taking cartoon physics too far. The solution to the puzzles is both a play on words and expectations: as the player is informed earlier, syrup made from ipecac is used as a purgative. The joke is that rather than make actual ipecac medicine, you can just combine it with pancake syrup. It's not unlike the logic of using a monkey wrench, but this time with an actual clue so the player has some idea of the pun they're looking for. A similar joke comes up with the hangover remedy: you need pepper, egg, and "hair of the dog that bit ya." In the real world, that expression refers to drinking more alcohol after a hangover. The joke is that the game takes "hair of the dog" literally, and that you have to get the dog to bite you first.

Bought this on a Flea Market. Felt like a real pirate dealing with pirates. Was a pirated version, didn't have the sound. Amazing experience as well. Like a little rain on your wedding day.

I remeber playing demo of this game, and having absolutly zero clue how to play it. But god-damm, artstyle was amazing.

Luckily I played these games in the correct order. Curse and Escape are both fine but nowhere near as good as the first two for me.

I remember I rejected this game as a kid. I thought the art style was too cartoony and didn't like the cutscene animations. I liked the first Monkey Island a lot. That's why when the recent updated version of the first game had the same style but in vector art it was shocking. Point and Click puzzle games often had a problem with their puzzles. When you have to for example, "Combine paper-clip with earwax" then "Use it on the pocket watch" it's infuriating. This third Monkey Island game has this problem.

Curse is clearly the weakest of the 5 MI games. Ron Gilbert´s absense is felt here. The athmosphere and humour is just not the same. This one feels like it was meant for children while I and II was for older teenagers. The riddlespuzzles were crap. The finish (burrying Lechuck under ice by having him sneeze because of pepper) was just lame and an example of the uninspired riddles in here. Part 4 was much better than this. I get that they had to retcon the ending for Mi2 in order to make a follow up, but the stuff they came up with is still disapointing.
@vermilion77772 жыл бұрын
Shurely not. It's one of the best, while 4 is by far the weakest. 2 is overrated. It consist totally of moon logic and red herings. Worst puzzle design ever... But anything but 1&2 is getting retconned by Return to Monkey Island anyway...
@markussmedhus97172 жыл бұрын
Uninspired is what I'd call most if not all adventure game endings so that's a moot point. Did you see Telltale's shitty take on this series, with its episodic business model and recycled character models?
@karry2995 жыл бұрын
"Best adventure games ever made" ? Maybe for those who are easily pleased. That is, if one declares adventure games to be actual, you know, games, in the first place.

I completely disagree about the game failing in any shape or form... WTF are you talking about?! It is probably THE BEST and most original and witty adventure/quest game to this day. The follow-up 3D sequel is a complete failure.
