I setup my alarm on my phone before every gaming session 😢

I agree with this but I also think that developer priorities have changed. Many AAA games now seem to have a huge focus on becoming as photoreal as possible, which don't get me wrong, makes many modern games look fantastic, like movies in some cases. But to create these high detail assets requires a lot of time and effort because the more detail something has, typically the more polygons is required which increases the development time for these assets. This becomes a problem because more time and money is being spent on these instead of the actual gameplay itself. In my opinion, this is why indie games are doing so much better now, they tend to have their own style, undoubtedly worse quality that AAA games but most gamers don't care about that much. Visual quality might grab me in the first 10 minutes, or when I enter a new area, but the gameplay, quests, exploration is what keeps me engaged. I end up going back to older games all the time, yes part of it is going to be nostalgia but its also remembering a really good questline and thinking "I really want to do that again". There are a couple of modern games that have that effect, Cyberpunk 2077 being one that comes to mind; but in general games from 10-15 years ago jsut feel like they were made with more care and love.

I agree with you. Big studios back then were a better balance of making the best game and profit as possible. Now it is skewed way to far to the profit side.

I highly recommand the og wipeout games and juice galaxy the game feel is pretty awesome it does feel like you're in trance when playing it wipeout is fast paced and require focus while juice galaxy is more chill and laid back I recommand playing don't starve, the first pikmin, dark souls, minecraft and outer wilds if you feel like you played everything. discovering these games for the first time is very interesting and unforgettable experiences and I highly recommand playing Postal 2, god hand, serious sam 2 and yellow taxi goes vroom are they really fun games and great for escapism

Yeah completely agree, i haven't been able to play a game in so long, i have played parts of elden ring and resident evil 4 in a complete meditative state as i am a inmersive player, I need to put s lot of effort in the atmosphere, the only thing that is kinda stopping me is that since i was little i played alone or with friends and gaming has evolved ior devolved into a one player type of experience multiplayer isn't multiplayer at all, so i haven't liked it since the pandemy playing alone is to isolate from everyone snd when i try to play with someone they really don't know how to inmerse.

It is a tough spot for sure. I feel a little weird talking with strangers in a discord getting to know them lol. If you don't already have gamer friends that are as invested as you it can be difficult

So true. Today I am always burdened with the idea of spending my time right, can I find something more enjoyable to do, etc. When I was younger, my resources were more limited, I had only so many games, so I had no other choice than playing the games that I had (I didn't think about anything else to do). Now with the internet, streaming, millions of games to choose from, my standards of 'fun' has gone up as well. Because you need to invest time in a game before you really start enjoying it, I most of the time end up not playing a game at all and just stick to what I know, which is the same 3/4 games I have played over the last 10 years 😅

Almost every time I get on to play I feel like I need to pick the "right" game lol. Time has become so much more valuable and I don't want to waste it. And very true, that is Elden Ring right now for me. It is like going to Chipotle, I get basically the same thing everytime with small variations because I know it will be good and I won't be wasting my money

You also have to look at when they were made. They were targeted for that audience. Unfortunately we are no longer that audience...

The "..." at the end of that sentence says more than anything else lol

That is very true. I also feel like the games today aren’t made for older gamers.

That is a good point, I'm playing Silent Hill 2 Remake right now and you can tell the target audience is for those who prefer a slower pace game with more time spent on problem solving, makes you really work for it. Modern games feel like they were designed to be a constant dopamine rush

When you eat the American diet and shrink your brain, and your dopamine levels become lower as you become adult and you have chronic health problems, gaming enjoyment can decrease massively. Also, KZbinrs spoiling everything about a game, and yellow lines now to guide brainrot kids to complete games, isn't helping at all. DEI and Wokeness also is destroying stories in games, because every game now has to inject politics into it. On top of that unlocking stuff in FPS games isn't really a thing anymore, because we have cosmetic microtransactions store for 20 dollars a skin. Also, as a adult I can only play 2 hours before becoming physically tired, as a kid I can play 12 hours straight without my body feeling like garbage. Scientifically you have less dopamine levels compared to a kid, so the kid can literally feel the magic more then you. The best way I found to increase that magic though is getting an amplifier and a hi end headphone and everything sounds supreme, like a cinema.

That is exactly what I have done with my headphones. You should checkout buttkicker haptics. I have one for my chair and it really ups the immersion.

I think when you get older, you are looking more and more for nostalgia in games, or just the mental sport. I think stories in (most) games aren't worth the time/investment. I'd rather just watch a movie or read a book. I think that's part of the reason why Hogwarts Legacy is so popular. In it's core, it is a mediocre game (assassin's creed with wands basically), but is really nostalgic for a lot of people.
