Everything is just about money now, not a single person who started Call of Duty even works there anymore, not one original person. @@R17759 most people didn’t mind paying because they actually received a finished product at the release of the game in which most people were content with. Now the games are released all buggy and instead of fixing the problems, they throw new skins or challenges in the game to distract you from the problem in the first place, do you remember when the newer MW2 came out? There were about 8 CORE MAPS FOR ALMOST HALF A YEAR, with nothing being added except cosmetics. Back on OG MW2 and MW3 used to release with TWICE THE AMOUNT. Free maps or not, the quality of the games are pushed aside by the quantity of micro-transactions. That’s why I refuse to buy COD until they actually release a finished game for once.

What Jev is describing near the start. The games industry is a passion industry. You can have the same skills as a developer working in say... finance. But games studios know that they can pay you significantly less than that other dev because you are more interested/passionate about gaming, so they know you'll accept it. Either you hate your job and get paid the big bucks, or you love your job but barely get paid enough to get by.

You could replace “game development” with “FaZe Clan” and it would still make perfect sense with the whole situation that happened the last 2 years, so many people that were passionate about what they do getting thrown in the trash because the “owners” never cared about them in the first place and only wanted the skills they had at that moment. "work on something they're not half as passionate about" Vicarious Studios developed the Crash Insane Trilogy back in 2017 so clearly they cared about the Crash/Spyro era of gaming and were the original intended dev team for Crash 4, but they were working on THPS instead. future Crash Bandicoot titles were developed by 'Toys For Bob' and had nothing to do with THPS 1+2 support getting dropped. Also Vicarious Studios wanted to work on a THPS 3+4 remake, but ACTIVISION rejected it SPECIFICALLY for more Call Of Duty content. So no they didn't get disbanded; instead they got moved to Activision Jail to make more CoD/WoW content instead.

It's not "Getting paid to play games" it's "Do this 15 second encounter in 100 different ways to try and break it" and they lean on the whole "You work in GAMING!" to pay low and over work. Big companies like Activision, Bethesda, or EA are probably some of the most malicious companies in the world, not just video game developing companies. Because they set such high bars and want to stick to/surpass them, they constantly replace the talent of even their most dedicated employees. Gaming will only truly recover if we see indie developers or indie teams completely dominate the landscape for a few years, hopefully allowing big companies to see the value in each of their individual employees
