The popcorn sonic thing wasn't really a cancelled game, it was actually in service and used! I believe pokemon also had a similar arcade popcorn machine of sorts? Not sure, though. Also, personally, I would have loved to have seen that 06 spinoff, as Silver is my favorite sonic character (he's probably the best thing to have come out of 06 in my opinion, hahaha).

It was cancelled because a key staff member who developed the engine ran away and stopped talking to people and wouldn't give up his work so that the team could work on it. I want that Silver spinoff game. Maybe that's part of the reason 06 was so incomplete. There was just too many factors. The cancelled Wii version, Yuji Naka leaving mid-development, a deal with Microsoft promising a 2006 release date. (I'm not too sure about that last one, but that's what I've heard.) And the game being very ambitous, and now, it seems they could've also been working on this Silver spinoff that got cancelled. Geez, Sega, get your shit together! No wonder 06 was the catastrophe that it was. They just had too much of a workload and so much going on at once. :/

Segasonic Popcorn Shop wasn't cancelled, it was an actual popcorn machine that existed in Japanese arcades, with the game acting as "entertainment" while you waited for your popcorn to be served. There's even an easter egg of the machine in the new game Sonic Mania's Studiopolis level.

I'd hate to be that guy, but I'll be that guy. Yuri, do you even do some research on these games because that Sonic Popcorn game (Actually titled SegaSonic Popcorn Shop) was just a little minigame designed for an actual vending machine in Japan so it technically was never a fully fledged game to begin with nor was it ever cancelled; It was just a highly obscure game. It was simply a "celebrity" endorsement sort of thing. I mean Sonic was also on cans of Spaghetti-O's back in the 90's.

Popcorn machines like you describe can be found in arcades in Japan. I have seen them with Doraemon and Anpanman themes, I believe. So that is probably what happened-- they just used other characters for the machine.

Well at the time, there was less importing & knowledge of Japanese games. Everyone in America was oblivious to the very existence of the Disk Drive even. By the time Popful Mail was released and Sister Sonic was announced, more information and importing of Japanese games occurred. Also as a side note, Yumi Kojo: Doki Doki Panic was originally devloped by Miyamoto as a Mario game before Nintendo signed on to help promote Fuji Television's Yuji Kojo Event with the event's mascots.

To be honest I didn't HATE Silver. I actually liked his character. Just his character, Sonic '06 was a steaming pile of ass. Silver's character is actually okay, it's not horrible. Could be better of course but he wasn't bad. I would play a game with him as the main character.
