Two years later and Capcom is still going back and forth between acting like Mega Man is still an important franchise to them and acting like he doesn't exist. Either publicly announce that the franchise is finished, or get started on making a new game! The fact that the Ask Capcom forum on Capcom Unity frequently sees Mega Man threads AND the massively successful Mighty No.9 Kickstarter shows that there's still a market for Mega Man games, but Capcom doesn't want any part in something they can't market to the DudeBro crowd, fill with microtransactions, or release an "updated" (read: all the stuff that should've been DLC) version of a few months later.

I've got an issue of Nintendo Power magazine going into a full in-depth review of Mega Man Legends 3. It's said that the guy who wrote the review (Chris Hoffman) is the only journalist to ever get the chance to play both the "Prototype Version" and the actual game. I just thought that was cool :P

Well, almost a decade later, now I'm unsure. Hopefully the recent Megaman Legacy Collections and the success of Megaman 11 can show Capcom that the Mega Man series still has its followers, and we can even get Megaman X9, along with Legends 3. Heck, they can just give us a Megaman Legends Collection (Legends 1 and 2, and Tron Bonne) to see if people would be interested.

You know, if Capcom just rolled over and died and sold Mega Man to Nintendo. They would see some great Mega Man games. If Nintendo hired Keiji Inafune and Comcept as a whole that would bring Mega Man under a nice roof where he belongs. It's sad as a gamer seeing the potential Capcom has with their franchises and watching them misuse them with nearly every opportunity. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 was a good choice. Mega Man in smash bros? Although I don't have a link to it... Their is a group of Japanese fans that are working on resurrecting the project. Instead of using a petition, THEY ARE MAKING THE GAME THEMSELVES. Yknow, after watching this, this sounds almost EXACTLY like why Sony discontinued the Sly Cooper franchise. I mean, think about it. Both franchises ended on a cliffhanger (Volnutt being stranded on a planet, and Sly being lost in time), and both their owners gave their fans the middle finger. The only real difference being, the MML fans never got the sequel they were promised to receive, and Sly fans got theirs, but ended up having their happy ending from the 3rd ruined on the 4th game and basically added insult to injury by having the series end on a cliffhanger. Sad that two franchises with potential ended like that...really, it is...:/

Funny you mention CyberConnect2, as they're responsible for one of my favorite DS games, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (which I HIGHLY recommend that criminally underrated gem); and that game played nearly similar to Mega Man Legends, while also having the aesthetic feelings of Skies of Arcadia and Star Fox. So in essence, I could totally see the possibility of CyberConnect2 working on Legends 3 if they were given the task.

It's not that he has forgotten, more that he can't legally make games under the Mega Man title anymore. So this is more of a spiritual successor more than anything. Hell he even has similar naming schemes for the main characters, Beck and Call (compared to Rock and Roll).

gundealerofthe74th I think that the Wii U version is still going to sell more units here, than what it is going to sell in Japan. I never said that it hasn't been the system seller at all. All I was saying that the amount of interesting exclusives has dropped. Right now the new 3DS has been keeping the sales of 3DS over 200k units a week, with the Japans mobile market being very powerful right now. I think that Nintendo has started focusing on the Wii U even more now than before. I mean, look at the amount of content in Super Smash Bros for Wii U. There also has been more of a focus on Wii U games, rather than 3DS games.

After the game got cancelled a facebook page/petition got made. It asked to get 10.000 supporters...which it got, but it took a shitton of time. Which in my eyes proved that capcom was right. Getting 10.000 people saying that they will buy your game isn't enough. In fact, it's not even close to what you actually need. The fanbase isn't as big, the sales would probably fail and outsiders might not even touch the game (as has been proven by the poor sales for the other 3 games).

You can't just pick one game in a lot and use that as the standard by which companies operate. no matter how you want to see it, These companies are a business first and a gaming fan second. I think they went stupid and allowed too many ideas from the fans to come into the project. Then, with so much things at hand, they couldn't come up with a consistent design and develop a quality game. It is my guess that they were expecting fans to come up with really deep, elaborate, consistent and full ideas, but instead they received a bunch of isolated ideas which, in the end, are more like requirements (i.e. "I want this and that"). Nothing could ever come out of that, and they failed.

I've seen this a few times, now. This wasn't made as a marketing decision or anything rational. It was some self-appointed auteur in the official creative team who got upset that the game wasn't what he wanted, so he took all his toys -- i.e. the game development -- and went home.

That doesn't necessarily mean Legends 3 would have ended up that way. We can't predict the game would have been good or bad, it was never released afterall. And when you look at it Street fighter 4 was a game design specifically for the fans and it did well. Bottom line we will never know how legends 3 would have turned out, since capcom didn't even give the game a chance.
