Testing the Intel N100-powered Geekom Mini Air12 Mini PC in gaming, 3D rendering & video editing
Geekom sent me a mini PC with an Intel N100 CPU on board, and I know these things are supposed to be for home servers and other low-power tasks, but I couldn't resist trying to make it play games...
Specs as provided:
Intel N100
Intel UHD integrated graphics
16GB DDR5-4800 (1x16GB)
512GB NVMe Gen 3 SSD

Would be interesting to see this compared to something like the old M5-6Y57 found in the highest end compute sticks. That CPU and it's siblings have a max TDP of 7 watts, but are based on full-fat skylake rather than the atom derived "E-cores" of the N100. While I'm not sure how well the old UHD graphics would do, I feel like it would be competetive in CPU performance.

What sucks about these chips is that they’re soldered only. Imagine one of these 4c/4t chips replacing the celeron lineup on the desktop, throw it into a super budget B670 board and a 25-30W TDP and I wonder how it’d run. If you have an Alder/Raptor-Lake on hand, it’d be interesting to test how these games run on the little cores (essentially what these chips are) with a budget GPU.

I personally hope for a embedded motherboard with a 1p core 4 e core configuration (i3 1305U) and at least an x4 pcie slot. I seriously believe that such configuration, with proper scheduling, might be able to handle pretty much anything from the last decade, as many games even ones that benefit from many cores, primarily depend on a single primary thread. I'd love to combine one with a 4060LP or similar to try and make an ultra low power gaming pc
@DigitalJedi
@DigitalJedi 8 ай бұрын
@ignasanchezl For gaming you will really want more than 1 P-core, as modern games tend to spawn 4-6 threads, and some of these would be forced on to E-cores. Something like the 2+4 1315U is rated for the same TDP though, so you could have a similarly low-power system with that.
@ignasanchezl
@ignasanchezl 8 ай бұрын
yeah, I did think about this. I know TDP is stated but often real power consumption is more true to the amount of cores. Probably the mobile i5 configuration 2p 8e will actually manage to pull the over 60fps experices way more often

@@ignasanchezl The i5 13420H might be of interest to you as well. 4+4 cores and an absolute max power draw of 95W (45W tdp).

I'd have no problem with something of this power level if needed. Retro games and indies are better games than a lot of newer releases and AAA titles end up being, anyway.

hey, sorry but i have to make an suggestion: there are two softwares for putting FSR in every application, magpie and in steam there is the lossless scaling, please test these, because they can literally save that type of hardware, lossless scaling is paid, but it works like a charm

The N100 gets eaten alive as the power draw seen here is about as high as it goes. It's literally just 4 E-cores, and they're the weaker Alder Lake version with reduced cache.
