I daily drove my i7 2600k and a gtx 1060 3gb with 16 gb ddr3, Man that cpu was really good, I did KZbin and edits on it. Using it in 2024 is no issue. If your happy with it, Don't spend more money.

@Onlywilberta It's not a server, it's my personal PC. It was an old school computer which I repurposed and upgraded. I probably won't upgrade all at once, since parts are very expensive. The 3770S should be a good base for a better GPU, maybe a 1650 or a 1660 level of performance. But who knows, maybe I'll do a full revamp... For what I do (light gaming, coding, studying) it is fine.

Yeah nowadays only i5's I would get would be as low as 8th-9th gen. Games are getting CPU hungry and you need 6 cores at least. 10th-11th gen are the optimal and 12th gen hooo boy, that thing can fly.

The similar i7 3770 and gtx 1070 combo was still solid in 2019-2020. But those days are long gone. My friend in 2023 managed to upgrade from the i7 3770 t0 an i5 10400f and rtx 2060 super . The 10th gen is the budget option now.

Dandy Bridge was an absolute beast when it came out. I had a 2500K. Super easy to overclock. With a high-end air cooler usually 4.5GHz on all cores and with water it would usually push to 5GHz with the right set up. I miss the days of being ablr to overclock near 1GHz from stock.

The RAM Specs are wild 16 Gigs of 665MHz DDR3... even the old PC I used to play games on had 1333MHz DDR3, although it was 8GB, that being paired with an i5 2320 and a GTX 560. I actually think about upgrading that PC to the best possible hardware for the old platform for fun (which would be the i7 2700k)

It's amazing a 14 year old CPU paired with an 8 year old GPU still work quite well today in 2025. It can edit video (not very fast of course, but doable), it can play (mostly) modern games, and surf the internet just fine. Imagine in 2011, using components with the same age. Pentium II? GeForce 256 or something? Yeah I remember cursing the 4 year old Prescott Pentium 4 back in 2008 lmao

I was streaming on a i7 3770 up until last year - the amount of blue screens of death of pushing the envelope made it kinda unreal. I'm upgraded now - though since I'm playing basically the same games the difference doesn't feel huge.

I had a i7 2700K and it was GREAT!! I upgraded to ryzen 5 5600X, but that CPU was wery well laierd with a gtx 1070! It ran games on 1080p high to ultra graphics on solid 60fps (no man's sky, satisfactory, editing wasn't so bad and some other games.) it is not a bad CPU despite it's age!

You would have been laughed at for buying an i7 back then if all you were doing was gaming. The only thing that separated i7's from i5's during those days was hyper threading, which next to zero games benefited from because devs were still trying to figure out how to code for multithreading. The i5-2600K was the king of gaming processors for a long time - I used to have one myself.

Talking from experience, I’m still running an i5-2400 with a gtx 1650 and it runs bo6 no problem, around 60fps at 1440p, I also play a lot of battlefield 2042. My cpu is about 28% slower than that i7 2700 so if buddy wants to game in 2025 for dirt cheap I think it would work great, I paid 120 Canadian bucks for my whole PC with the graphics card so you really can’t go wrong at that price

I run Xeon E5-1650v2 with 20gb ram and Asus r7 250. I can edit videos using CPU in kdenlive. DaVinci Resolve and pretty much anything heavier than that kills my GPU. It doesn't work too well with newer games like Devil May Cry 5. Works very well for emualting PS3 games, playing Minecraft and hosting a minecraft server for me and friends on a VM. I also have another machine with i5-750 and MSI gt710.

For gaming I was on an E3 1230V2 for ages with decent framerates compared to my old 3470, and the only game that had issues was PC Mode VRchat, because it couldnt load the live assets in with dropping to single digit framerates or locking up all together. Video editing is def a different story

I still play at 720p, surprisingly. It's mostly because i've had an Xbox 360 my entire life and played on a 720p monitor, so in order to cut costs and buy a budget PC, i just reused it. Never had a problem with the "edges", "artifacts" etc because i had just grown used to it, lol.

It's still capable, and if ye want you can just run all your retro games on it, my 70" TV doesn't have KZbin or anything it's just a plain old TV in my bedroom so I hooked my old rig up to that, keyboard and mouse in my headboard, fire up and emulator and run all my old school games or watch KZbin in bed
