@dawizze1 This is a great investment considering the cheaper chairs last so many years. Assuming it fits your budget of course. I know forking over this much money for a chair can be wild. I came to this same conclusion years ago regarding any product labeled "gaming". In my case it was headphones. Spending $200+ on gaming headphones that never lasted, had no replaceable parts and were generally just inferior to well known audiophile brands. It was well worth and cheaper in the long run to save for a nice pair of headphones. My Sennheiser headphones are going on 12 years old now, can replace the cables, pads etc and just as good as the day I bought them.

Audiophile brands still dont last for me. My $300 AKG's the cables went to shit, the $80 pads needed replacement, and a plastic part on 1 part broke. Sennheiser my pads went but I didn't know you could replace them and gave them away. I still need to get myself a new pair I was thinking the Sennheiser HD600XX from massdrop.

I currently use Hyperx Cloud Alpha headphones, which I bought for under £100, over 3 years ago. They've held up really well, especially since they're used throughout the work week for me. The pads have cracked a bit, but that's because I've abused them a lot and not looked after them properly. Some audiophile brands are massively overpriced and not really built as well as they should be. I do like Beyerdynamic's budget range, but the lack of a detachable cable is really annoying.

Great video as usual. 2 things to note. Steelcase Amia owner here (love the chair by the way I got in 2011 and it has been incredible.) I still find my self grabbing my gaming chair around once a day for a specific task. I also have an extra one for you guessed it my sim racing setup. After it’s all sim racing I want the realism. So that is a point you could have added it is great for people who sim race and want to feel as close to possible and get as much realism as possible. 2nd point, you noted the full recline function is trash. However that’s the reason I grab the chair. I have a tall padded thing I use as a footrest I lay my feet on it and then use my monitor arm to get my big 49 inch monitor high and pointed downward. I use my full recline grab my controller and play laid back games with my controller laying back in a comfortable position just having a good time. So yes an office chair is so much more comfy, however there is specific occasions where a gaming chair is better, I feel like my 2 situations are the only ones. You could also maybe say for looks but I would still rather just get a cool looking office chair.

For years I wanted a gaming chair... now that I finally decided to spend some money to upgrade my gaming setup, I don't know what to buy. I did some research and a lot of people are saying NOT to buy a gaming chair. I'm tall and "semi" heavy (110kg). So I was aiming at something sturdy. And that is usally a gaming chair. However... I feel like an office ergonomic chair will simply be more comfortable. I did some research to decide and now I'm even less decided than before xD

@@igors1234 I bought an office chair less than a year ago, and regretted it almost instantly. It is now broken. The gaming chair that I had before that held way longer (although the cushioning on the arm rests gave out too quickly). From what I can see, and what I dislike about this office chair the most, is that when you recline in an office chair, the seat tilts back too (even a Steelworks Gesture for over a thousand euros seems to behave that way)… gaming chairs have an independently-reclining back. Killer feature for me. So now I will replace this office chair with a gaming chair.

@@igors1234 yeah, so I bought Symino gaming chair. In general I am happy with it. It is comffortable and seems sturdy. Tho it is a bit stiff... it's not a deal breaker. And I'm use to it by now. I'm tall and this one is big enough for me to sit on. To be honest I had high expectations for a gaming chair and I was a bit disappointed at first... because like I said, it's a bit stiff. Had a cheap gaming chair for a few years, was really not good, then I upgraded to a pretty expensive nice office chair that was the same one I had at work, it felt comfortable for ~8h at work so I thought it would be nice at home too, but I didn't like it so I sold it and bought a secret lab titan evo, and it was much more comfortable. I also like to sit with crossed legs, and that was super uncomfortable in my office chair but feels great in my secretlab I think there are better chairs than gaming chairs, but the titan evo isn't a bad chair. I'd never buy a random gaming chair that's just made to look like a car seat though

I think the main difference is, how many gaming chairs manage to last past say 5 years? Most will have the faux leather peeling, the arm rests failing, the seating going flat etc etc. I'm pretty happy with my GT Omega chair as it seems to about the same quality as any other (steel frame, cold foam etc) but was £220 rather than £300-500. Now after half a decade however the seat is starting to go flat, all the seams in the seating have rippedthrough the faux leather. To be fair, If I can get another seat for it I'd happily sit in for another half a decade. My sitting posture although not great doesn't result in back aches and seems to work with most chairs. The reason for me to go for an office chair is that they actually seem to last. There's Steelcase and Herman Miller chairs in their 'teens' that functionally are still the same as a new one, and they come with warranties that back that up. Gaming chairs mostly seem to be 2-3 years of warranty (warranty that doesn't cover pretty much everything that will go wrong because they'll write it down to normal wear and tear even when it isn't)

What matters most is being comfortable in different positions you actually stay in and the ability to still use the keyboard/mouse. You could also argue its better to just get up and walk around a minute than stretch in your chair.

Sorry if this isnt the best place to ask, but figured I would try. I had a pretty bad accident that makes sitting upright in a chair rather painful. So sitting at a desk has been something I have to do minimally. My chair is old and not great, so I've been looking to replace it. The main thing I need is just for the butt cushion to be quite soft, and enough room for easy position adjustment. I've considered just getting a recliner because of this, but there has to be a better option than that. I need something that is soft and somewhat spacious, as i need to readjust my seating position very frequently, so I know I should be looking office chairs. I'm just not sure where to start. If anyone here has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Having a recliner for my desk would have been very cumbersome as I'm in an apartment, so not a ton of space. Although I do plan on getting a recliner for my living room, so it also seemed a bit silly to get 2 in the end. Lol. The chair has been great so far. Can the tallest guy in your office recommend a chair for a someone 6'5" 240lb with neck and shoulder pain? I dont care for aggressive lumbar just good neck, shoulder, and elbow support. 4D armrest and at least 20 depth on the seat for sitting cross-legged. The most comfortable backrest I've used is on the Serta Hensley but the armrests are unusable and the seat raises my legs too much. Currently use it with the arms installed upside-down and a clamp on desk elbow rest arm but still find it hard to get comfortable aside from sitting cross legged and never feel like I have enough elbow support and get leg pain. From your videos Im thinking the Fern no lumbar/headrest with an atlas headrest mod or the Mavix M9 to use with my Uplift Desk. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Chairs ive tried but didnt like. Serta Hensley: great back bad arms unergonomic seat. Steelcase Gesture: Seat too shallow. Steelcase Leap Plus: Did not lime the back, it dug into my shoulders and found I missed a headrest. Funny you say gaming chairs force you into one position. Office chairs force you into office mode. All their adjustability is great, for customizing the chair for office work. Slouching in an office chair is near impossible, the seats aren't comfortable for long periods, the fabric is usually too grippy. And being 6'2" 225, the recommended office chairs are generally pretty terrible. Also weird that the top brands don't think people over 5' 9" exist. After returning several high end office chairs, I am in a Walmart Serta chair. Arms sucks, but the back is tall, wide and flat and I can sit in in for as many hours as needed with never feeling like I need ot get up. Make that chair Steelcase.

I've never really understood the hype of gaming chairs. The ones we have easily available here (considerably mid range for some people likely) look so stiff and like it could hurt my back. I started from a monobloc chair to an old office one my mom used before but the arm rests were too low for my desk. After 3 years, I got an ergonomic office chair for roughly 200usd and it is a game changer. The arm rests can pull up and its less stressful for my arms/hands to use the keyboard and mouse. The back offers lumbar support. It suits my 5'11 fat body. I can actually sit lotus style on the seat comfortably and the chair bears my weight so well, Im not scared that the pump would break and/or I fall off. Its beautifully in red and white and the back and seat are mesh material that fits tropical climates (or if youre a really sweaty person). Going 3 weeks with me and no regrets! Putting here if anyone's interested, its the Sihoo M57. 200usd is like a months worth of salary for most people in my country so that's why it took me so long to decide. Its so comfy to work/game/read or just watch movies while sitting. :)

The gaming chair holds you in place, like a racing car seat does. Think about it; an actual gaming pro is spending 30-45 minutes locked in on a game, pushed forward, then they break for a while in a real tournament on stage. If you're gaming four hours and hours it should obviously be more like an office chair, as that is designed for that use case. Like a racing styled seat in a car makes sense for a race car driver, but would be wildly uncomfortable for anyone making a daily commute or road trip

I also think it’s important to consider the platform.. You don’t need the same position on a console with controller. I get stiff from sitting up with my feet down all the time. Playing on a 71” screen with a playstation, i was looking for a compact reclining chair with footrest, that i can easily put aside when i need the space. Gamingchair seemed a good choice. Are they really that bad?😅

I've not been able to make office chairs work, perhaps due to my height? Gaming chairs just seem more comfortable (at least for me), and I like the feeling of being held in place like in a car. I seem to be able to sit in car seats (bucket, not rear bench) for long periods without discomfort too. That being said maybe I haven't tried an expensive enough office chair to give them a fair shot?

Problem with these "mesh" chairs is that the the mesh rough, it's not soft as proper cushion and as the chair gets used, if you use it a lot, all day the fabric will start to get lose in the places your put more weight and then the "ergonomic" of them goes out of the windows and you end up with highly curved back uncomfortable chair. For me this was bad, particularly on the lower back curve. I favor a FLAT back chair, tough that is counter intuitive, I prefer I myself buy or make my own lower back cushion so that when it goes bad, if it goes back I can just change it.

I'm a big fan of the Secret Lab Titan XL(Not EVO). The XL is better than the EVO because the base is flatter and the bucket back is less restrictive. I'm over 6ft tall and weigh over 100kgs. so i'm in the demographic of office chairs are too small. Also, I'm not one to go lie on the lounge and watch TV, I watch TV shows in my PC chair at my desk and recline, etc. a big issue with ergo chairs is they are designed to only elt you sit up straight, you can't lie back and chill.
@btodtv
@btodtv Ай бұрын
6'0" tall and 220 lbs is not a size that pushes you out of office chairs. They push you out of standard sized gaming chairs but ergonomic chairs are much more adjustable and there are a ton that will fit you just fine. Ergo chairs are not designed to only let you sit straight up. The recline and tilt mechs on ergo chairs, even priced as low as $100, are better than the design Secret Lab uses. -Ryan

I've always hated Gaming chairs because idiots across the board drop so much money on them so they can appear cool, it's like the Gucci Gang equivalent in computing, same with wireless headsets. I've needed a new headset and chair for a while now and have been looking at executive chairs and even they have gone up over just the last few years to stupid levels, about 100% price disparity. Yeah the pandemic and the greedflation that we are seeing in this late stage cpaitalism are big factors but so are the plonkers dropping good money on crappy products. Everything you said about them is spot on and the majority of people buying these are complete muppets.

@@Hermitmaster I mean that's fine if you love it. That's your preference. There's also a huge cost difference between a secret lab and a herman miller. Not everyone wants to fork out $1500+ for a chair, that's pretty crazy. But I think if you're talking about the actual "ergonomics" of sitting, secret lab doesn't fall into that category. Yes, the seat cousins are well padded, the product is study and well built. But they force your shoulder's forward instead of back, they don't have proper lumbar support, there's zero flexibility, the neutral posture is wrong, etc. When I was 20ish years old, I had a racing style seat and was fine with it. But as you get older, you really start to feel the difference.

One sad thing about the Big 3 office chair companies is: 2/3 of them have limited customizability options when it comes to their international online stores. Haworth e.g.: in their own international online store, you can only buy the Fern in black without the extra lumbar support. There are no color options nor can you add the lumbar support. Similar story with Steelcase. E.g. the Amia in their german online store available in 9 quickship colors, you can't choose the fabric or frame color. Of the Big 3 only Herman Miller let's us germans choose what americans can choose.

Totally different story for countries without all your trusted brands. Even when you can buy HM for inflated price (for a price of a good gaming chair I can only buy HM's stacking chair), usually you still can't test it out. Gaming chairs are much easier to get and feel befory buying. As for generic office chairs - you are usually getting plastic lumbar support that cuts into your back. I'm not telling you gaming chairs are better, but you can buy their expensive models everywhere people game, and depending on a model those can be better than office counterparts, at least in 2024.

I find it odd that they choose the cheaper/less comfy for long sessions office chairs when gaming chairs can easily exceed $500. At that price you can get a good EXECUTIVE office chair that is very well padded and will last much longer than any gaming chair. It's just weird that every yt chamnel trying to compare them always goes to the bare ass wore mesh chairs rather than the executive vhaors you often see in professional settings and in movies. It's like they are trying hard to make the gamer chairs look like a good value until you see even a half decent executive office chair makes them look cheap.

The way I see it, a gaming chair isn't really the same product as an office chair. Its basically just a recliner with wheels. if you aren't heavily tilted back it wont be comfortable. Now, I like to tilt back specifically with my feet propped up on a pillow ottoman about and its truly great like that in my secret lab omega but for sitting upright I managed to snag a used steelcase leap v2 and that's a lot better for tasking or really dialed in mouse inputs for gaming. Definitely agree that those side bolsters on the seat need to go though. Maybe if you actually want to make a racing sim setup they could make sense for authenticity but then that's a whole different use-case and mounted different.
