Veilguard is an action adventure at best. It is not an RPG or Action RPG. It's like a burger / fast food, non-essential, not much in term of nutrients. I still enjoyed it more than Andromeda. It is not the direction I would like the franchise to go, but it has been that way after DA: Origins. It's like Star Wars now, I don't care anymore. It is better this way; it opens me to new franchises like Wukong, and others. Move on.

A great story is important but great gameplay should always be top priority. Dragon Age Inquisition had awful mage combat: standing in a corner and tapping the trigger over and over was dull. I returned the game in less than a week. Veilguard is actually FUN to play. A step in the right direction, though the quippy dialogue could have been toned down.

Both BioWare and Rocksteady are dead brands, yet game journalists and gamers keep saying if only they would make another Mass Effect or in the case of Rocksteady another Arkham game they could return to there former glory. But no one that made those games are left at these companies, and it shows with the latest dragon age game, and how meh it was. The same thing is going to happen with the new Mass Effect game whatever magic BioWare had in 1995 died on march 21, 2017 and was pronounced dead on February 22, 2019. One last thought video games are now designed by committees, there is a budget committee, story committee, graphic committee(what the game looks like), game play committee and so on so fourth, development teams are a thing of the past where individuals come together to create a unique experience, everything now has to be agreed on by everyone, and no one can run with a idea anymore.

For anyone in doubt Mary Demarle, the writer behind the last two Deus Ex games and the Guardians of the Galaxy game, is the main writer on ME5. Shes a tremendous writer and just looking at her past work should instill some good faith in the next ME entry. Nah, the new Deus Ex games had extremely amateur writing and world building. It was only palatable because of the references to the original game. 90% of NPCs in the world are only concerned about the artificial limbs they are installing into themselves, which is like a bizzarre parody of the genre. I definitely keep hearing a "meh" from reviewers i trust for veilguard. I imagine at some point it'll come to ea play, which is attached to the gamepass, so i'll give a shot when that happens, but nothing i've heard so far has made me want to buy it. Also, is it true that veilguard has some kind of immortality option in the accessibility section? I've noticed a growing trend of that over the years and i'm definitely not against it but i do miss traditional cheat codes. I guess it's the same thing but there's something satisfying about entering a code, it feels like you're finding a secret.

This new one seems pretty good to be honest, they have dropped the larger open world ish sections (so far) but I'm sick of open worlds. I don't regret buying it. To me the key is writing. The Veilguard feels a bit bland, and the plot seems like an excuse to go and fight some baddies. If the next Mass Effect writer is a good one and can create a compelling plot and characters, maybe we can get something good.
