@Covenant Lazarus when this video was released the Wii had only sold 20 million units. By the end of its lifespan about 5 years ago, it had sold 100 million units, finally beating the NES. Meanwhile, the Nintendo DS sold 154 million units, beating out the PS1. The Switch is currently estimated to be at a bit shy of 30 million, having some 20 million as of last July and.predicted to sell as many by this upcoming April.

I always loved the video structure of Gaming Historian: If the product failed: it introduce what it was, how much it cost, what was its purpose, then it gets to more precise details to why it failed. While if the product actually succeded, it's a biography about all of the ups and downs of the series/console/product.

I preferred it for years until I learned how to snip the lockout chip in the old NES and replace the 72 pin connector. Once I did that, I went back to the boring old outdated box because of the A/V output.

The blinking light is usually the lock-out chip which goes bad in the toaster model and was left out of the top-loader. I disabled my lockout chip on my toaster-model and it works perfectly now. Blinky light not usually related to wore out pins. I also have a pristine connecter replacement,.... however I keep the old connecter inside usually to use with the game-genie because it does bend the pins over time and won't work properly without the game genie with the old connecter pin slot.

The NES 2 was made very shortly after the AV Famicom started production, since both console revisions used the same bottom half, red power switch, gray reset button and game controller design. However, the AV Famicom was still in production long after the 1995 discontinuation of the NES in other parts of the world.

I modded my toaster NES so it would both stop blinking AND be region free, the design flaw is actually a chip implemented by Nintendo to region lock games (still dunno why that is a thing). Take that, 10NES chip.

Because over the years a lot of people have asked about it in the comments and the historian apparently neither names the music he's using nor answers the repeatedly asked question about its origin: The music of the intro (starting at 00:59) is the Corneria Theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee (took me sometime to get that information myself). Most sources cite Hirokazu Ando as composer and arranger.

I heard a rumor that Nintendo actually did make a few copies of the Top Loader that did have the AV Multi-Out like on the N64, the SNES, and the GameCube, but they were released around the time the Top Loader died. So if these consoles do exist, then they rank right up there with Nintendo World Championships and Stadium Events as one of the most Nintendo products in history.

I bought the RetroBit Super Retro Trio 3(no plus) and have found it a good deal better for the right price. No lag induced by cheap HDMI scaling or emulation. Just true hardware cloning with a few everdrives I now have nearly every game released for NES/SNES/Genesis all in one console. Connected to a 32 inch CRT from Sharp with double shielded S-Video and stereo cables. I am still hunting down afew titles that just are not compatible with everdrives but isn't that half the fun in the long run.

They may look drastically different but internally they have the exact same technical specs. The reason for the 72 pins on the NES was becasue 4 were for the 10NES lockout chip (which the famicom didn't have) and the rest of the additonal pins were for the expansion port on the bottom. Besides with an adapter you can play NES games on the famicom and said adapter is nothing more than a pass through because like I said the famicom has the same specs as the NES.
