I think that an AVGN quote sums this up the best. “So even if it did work, what’s the point? If I’m holding the controller anyway, why not just use the controller? It blows my mind it’s like what were they thinking?!” They weren’t thinking to be honest.

Historically speaking, you could argue that this is an excellent case of how not to market third party controller scheme hardware. The rolling rocker probably could've been a big success if it came with 2 or more compatible games that were specifically designed for use with the rolling rocker.
@DVX_BELLORVM
@DVX_BELLORVM 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like that was the problem with so many NES peripherals. They either had no games specifically designed for their use (the U-Force) or only a small handful of mediocre titles that never grew after the first year or two (the blaster, ROB, Power Glove, Power Pad, heck even the Super Scope with the SNES).

9:58 That finally connects the dots for me. For a while I've been trying to figure out if LJN was a "real" company or a sub-brand to get around Nintendo's limits on how many games can be released, like Ultra Games was for Konami. They were both! Granted I probably could have figured that out sooner if I just looked it up, guess I didn't really care that much but I had been wondering about it for a while.

And here I thought the NES Hot Seat was the weirdest thing you've covered. Apparently it CAN get weirder (and I've seen this in stores at the time... And I've avoided it like the majority). Speaking of the Hot Seat, I looked it up because a certain explanation sounded very familiar, and I was trying to remember where you've taught me that. Good use of that segment! Also, thank you for using two cameras to demonstrate the Roll & Rocker in action. Seeing your reaction wobbling around in sync to the captured game footage is a VERY good idea. And then there's the product in action too of course. Triple screen is a very good way to show this.
