Funny thing is, my first run through the Library was flawless. Not a single hiccup, just kept mobile and strolled through the entire thing, had a blast sweeping the hordes with nothing but a shotgun and pistol. But every subsequent time? Mother of mercy, it has slowly transformed into the bane of my existence, particularly those pricks that snipe you just before the level exit. I wish I knew what I did right that first time, because now I silently groan every time this level starts up.

Jacob Smith few tips to make the Library pretty easy. 1. Never charge down Flood with the shotgun hide behind barriers and let them come to you. 2. If you see rocket Flood shoot them down with a pistol never ever use a shotgun on rocket Flood. 3. Try to protect your sentinels they distract the Flood very well. 4. Good luck.

That's the difficulty - I kind of feel like it's "different". It feels a little more a mod than a reimagined version of the game. The mod team did change the gameplay, while 343 did NOT touch the gameplay.

Also, in SPv3, there are 2 versions of the 4th mission, "The Silent cartographer". The 2nd version is called "TSC: EVOLVED" and really is a fantastic custom made level. The objectives are the same, but the environments are completely different.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the terrible pacing or execution of SPV3. This mod has the potential to replace Combat Evolved but it won't until they learn how to distribute power ups, weapons and fights across the beautiful levels they have designed. The mod "blows it's load" almost entirely within the first level where you basically have access to almost every weapon (outside of a few) and wade through innumerable enemies. There's no build up because every fight plays like the previous, with the player having full choice of the arsenal at any given moment.

By not being in the game at all. That's one of the reasons why Reach is still my favorite entry in the series. Story-wise, I think the Flood actually work well. But gameplay-wise they're just a nuisance. The Covenant AI is incredible, requiring you to think and take a strategic approach, and that's further emphasized when you encounter the Flood and see the gameplay take a serious nosedive. If I wanted to be rushed and swarmed by enemies constantly, I could play almost any zombie game. Just my opinion, of course.

Since the flood had no grave mind in halo ce technically they’d be mindless zombies. In halo 2/3 they had a gravemind so really bungie should have updated the a.i. There was no excuse. And I really understand when you say the flood suck. If they had covenant a.i. Then I think they’d be way more fun to fight. Really my opinion

Firefight wasn't in the Master Chief collection because Halo CE anniversary (xbox 360 version) never had its own multiplayer mode or firefight mode, it was just dlc maps for the multiplayer of halo reach, all of the time you played multiplayer and firefight in CE anniversary on the xbox 360, you were actually playing halo reach's multiplayer.

But you could still play it through Halo: CEA, regardless. Furthermore, they added ODST into the mix and the original game included Firefight. It should not have been stripped out here.

There are two reasons I know why ODST was added later, one, because the multiplayer of MCC was broken, so for compensation, and two, it had the same engine and mechanics of halo 3, so it wouldn't require as much effort to make it 1080p 60fps as a whole different game like reach, if they did, they would have just made the halo collection and not the MCC. Adding a whole another game when the game was already broken would have made the servers more useless than they already were. I'm hoping they will make a halo collection in a few years after 6 and release it on PC with the whole Microsoft Exclusive thing going on windows 10.

Excellent review thank you. My kids started with XBOX 360 - Halo Reach but I started years earlier on the PC. The only game I have finished at all levels and Final Run (Two Betrayals) is mostly why I replay from the start. Leaving the tunnel, watching the snow lightly falling and then that musical score - just blew me away and I have replayed that level alone so many times. (I noticed in an Anniversary Game Play by another KZbinr - the music wasn't there at the same point). The Flood and Library - you nailed it - boring and the only joy in any of that was with the elevator saying "Fourth Floor: Tools, Guns, Keys To Super Weapons" as the end was nigh. Though we purchased a new XBOX ONE to play Halo 5 my youngest never played it much after that. I guess he finally learned what I figured out in Halo 4 - it lost its luster. Those Promethean's and the blasted "watchers" - gosh what a PITA. I never did finish Halo 4 but near the end there as a mini-battle with the Covenant - a group I love fighting and I recall not that many in that version. I have installed SPV3 and am playing it now. I am not convinced I love all the new weapons but the added areas to discover does makes it an enjoyable trek though less original Covenant and more new beings - jury is sill out. Definitely a leg up with the keyboard/mouse on the PC - I have always been able to finesse a plasma grenade just right on an Elite - but cannot replicate that with the XBOX controller. Music has been a big thing with Halo too - like in a movie - hearing it means something bad is about to happen ... cheers!

As a huge _Halo_ fan, I have to say that the original is my absolute favorite in the series. There's something about the game that makes me enjoy it more than the rest of the series. Loved it so much that I bought _Combat Evolved Anniversary_ just for the hell of it. Great remake. I liked how 343 enhanced the story with the addition of the terminals.

Clayton Luce Personally as someone who grew up on Halo, it’s not an incredible or revolutionary game by today’s standards. However when I played it there was nothing like it. Halo is it’s own category of video game, with an entire universe that you can be absorbed into. It’s the perfect escape and it does it well as a video game.

Nice Review! The flood really isn't much fun to fight, but the glowing robots from Halo 4 are way worse. The only problem I have with the remade graphics is how some locations completely changed (desert to green landscape for example)

Loved the original, loved the SPV3 mod. I have a soft spot for the flood levels, for the simple fact that they did one thing right: they made the flood seem like an unstoppable tide, and even if a tad tedious at times, I still loved the idea and the enemies themselves were not too boring to fight. At least for me.

In SPV3 mod the new Flood enemies are a bitch. In the library there are like squads of covenent that you can use to distract the Flood and get away. Also you can save checkpoints - So the thing is this there are those super elites with gold helmet and energy swords which kill you in one hit. I runned by a squad, got to a "save" spot and saved the game. The problem was that I ran IN THE WRONG WAY! AND those super elites GOT INFECTED. I was playing on Heroic and I could not even scratch their shields those assholes. And I had to run by them since I have ruined my checkpoint (after some cleaver use of grenades and a butt tone amount of luck I managed to get by, but damn).

SPV3 uses Chimera, a mod that uses interpolation to achieve 60fps animation, in case you didn't know the original PC version is very broke...missing textures, shaders, effects & no 3D Environmental sound effects along with very low fov + the whole game's animations, cutscenes, etc. run at 30fps even at higher framerate SPV3 uses tons of mod to fix all of this...hence has higher tendency to crash In short all PC ports of vanilla Halo games are terrible

@@Gamingpastime64 Fighting the flood isn't a big deal, even on higher difficulties. Those levels teach you how to be more aware, they teach you to not rely on your radar as much as your FOV, and most importantly the Flood teaches you the concept of shooting on the run. This practice gets lost in later Halo games when Springing and other Spartan Abilities lowers your gun during movement but in classic Halo you have the freedom of all your movement options while still being able to shoot and fight back. People that don't like killing Flood are usually the absolute bottom of the barrel skilled players who are not looking to do much more than hold forward with the trigger down. And hey that's great, there's lots of games out for people who are into that. But Halo is different, at least the first three games, require you to use your brain and think about how to overcome the obstacles presented to you. The Flood isn't the problem, your unwillingness to adapt to a new enemy that demands slightly more effort is the issue here. Fighting the flood is still a very task in CE and something adds variety to the single player experience. But when you finally master those basic skills of smart awareness, movement, and positioning, you can play against other human beings in a 2v2 setting in H1 and realize just how deep this ocean really is. The Flood are indeed challenging, but you need to understand that's where the reward and satisfaction factors come from when you finally master and beat them.
