Halo 2: Anniversary Video Review

Gaming Pastime reviews Halo 2: Anniversary which is part of The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One.
Developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios, Halo 2 was released for the original Xbox in November, 2004. The story continues right after the events of the original game and the novel Halo: First Strike. It improves the core gameplay mechanics found in the original and introduces several new staples to the series.

For me, the original game is the best in the series. However, _Halo 2_ is still a great game with a good story and action-packed moments. Watching High Charity erupt into civil war is one of my favorite moments as well. Have not played the remake bundled in _The Master Chief Collection_ as I don't have an Xbox One, but if I ever did get one I am willing to play it just for the heck of finding all the terminals. I loved how 343 (or Sabre Interactive, whoever really) added the terminals in the _Combat Evolved_ remake and enhanced the story. I'm sure they did a good job with them in _Halo 2 Anniversary_ as well.

FRA MAN DUDE The flood are not in Halo 4 or 5 either....that's why they weren't that great imo especially 5 but that has many other issues

I really liked the way the Flood were handled in Halo 3. Not only could they finally succumb to melee attacks (in a satisfying way, no less), but I enjoyed the variation the pure forms brought to combat as there was more to their offense than just running straight at you.

The reason why they didn't use the Assault Rifle from Halo CE was because it basically functioned as an smg, being only really useful in close quarter engagements and not really ideal if say you fired in burst shots. Its the same deal with the battle rifle, replacing the dmr like magnum from CE .In games like halo 3 and so forth they'd re-balance the weapons so they would function as their intended role as was the case with the assault rifle and the magnum pistol.

I miss in-engine cutscenes. Felt far more cohesive with the main game than the lens flare extravaganzas now.

One thing to note is that the Elites no longer dual wield in Halo 2 Anniversary, a minor thing but it does make it easier than the original Xbox and PC version

The only one that does is the Elite in the opening level with the two plasma pistols, all the others are bugged and don’t dual wield. It’s a pretty well documented bug

Halo 2 is a master class on how to do video game dialogue. There is seriously not a bad voice actor or performance in the whole game, and the cutscene between the Arbiter and the Shipmaster is one of if not my favorite conversation in any video game.

Totally agree with your thoughts regarding legendary difficulty in this game. A friend and I made it about 3/4 of the way through the game playing on this difficulty in total agony before making the decision to drop it to heroic. It's awful. I had no fun whatsoever playing this game on legendary.

Man, I've solo'd all of Halo 2 legendary. It's hard, but playing any other difficulty afterwards just feels too easy. Reach was especially difficult too

I only play on Heroic now. On Legendary, the marines are non- factors making the game not immersive at all. On Legendary, every Covie soldier is the greatest soldier which is ridiculous.

You have to have the App Halo Channel on your XBOX. Then walk up to a terminal and use it. Thisway you get a cutscene for every terminal in Halo CEA and Halo 2A.

Hey great review! 2014 marked the 10th year anniversary of Halo 2, that's why they gave so much attention especially to that one. Also, Combat Evolved was already remade 3 years prior- the only difference is the transition from old to new graphics, it's smoother. I subbed! Thumps Up

I really wish they would develope some more maps for h2a. If the game came out with remastered all 25 h2 maps that would be god like. The fact that mcc was broken when it came out really killed the games momentum. Such a shame.

I see similar problems with in-game environmental storytelling and atmosphere in this game. The new graphics are nice but they are too bright sometimes and take away from the darker flood based levels just like 343 guilty spark in the anniversary version of Halo CE.

5 is absolutely garbage. One of the worst triple a games I’ve ever played. It’s made my hype for Infinite be really low. I’m hoping they can recover but even if I see hype trailers I’m not trusting shit. 5 showed they can give us an entirely different game than what was advertised and it wouldn’t surprise me if they did it again for the money. I’m tired of getting my hopes up only for 343 to completely crush them.

I played the original halo 2 using project cartographer recently and I realised that I don't really like halo 2, I played in heroic and I really didn't like playing as the arbitor at all and they were easily what made the experience not very fun that and tge weapons being obviously more balanced for multi-player which made them not very fun for single-player.

Halo 2 by far portrayed the flood the best. Also... fuck sniper jackals. In halo 1 you could make mistakes and the game wouldn't punish you for it. In 2 however, you do one thing wrong and your screwed.

Um no the allied ai is not as dumb as in the last game they are very helpful especially when given heavy weapons and sniper weapons.

Gaming Pastime but have you tried to give them snipers like at all or rocket launchers at all I have learned this much from all my years of playing Halo marines make areas a lot easier that sniper gauntlet in outskirts give your marines sniper rifles and beam rifles and they distract the snipers and drones and take a few out quite handily or give one a rocket launcher on your warthog passenger seat it basically gives you the firepower of a tank with a warthog and combine that with the rockets tracking vehicles and they will absolutely annihilate any ghosts or even wraiths that try to get you actually I do plan on making videos of me playing the game in Heroic perhaps if you watch those you can learn tips and tricks for how to let your marines in H2 and H3 become very helpful allies or heck watch hokie bird and his guides to Legendary where he does just that.
