On the console side of things, the magic ingredient was the 60fps gameplay. At the time 7th gen games barely hit 30fps, so when CoD4 came along with a robust multiplayer package that ran at 60fps it catapulted the game to forefront. Many gamers didn’t know that frame rate was - they just knew it felt amazing. The games that tried to copy and replicate CoD4’s magic didn’t understand this - or if they did, they couldn’t achieve it.

For all the shit it got, CoD was like the only 7th gen franchise that didn't have its head up its ass like other devs regarding framerate. While other devs were making "cinematic" excuses or prioritizing lens flares and other stupid effects, CoD devs understood it was simply 60fps or go home.

One thing I like about All Gillied Up is that unlike many later stealth mission in this series and many others inspired by it, failing stealth is not an instant game over. Things will get difficult but I think the part with the BMP:s is the only part where you are guaranteed to die if you get spotted.

Excellent overview of a true classic! They are incredibly short campaigns, over 3 evenings I played through all 3 "COD Modern Warfare" games, one per night after work.

Modern warfare 1 is my first entry into the cod series and I am so glad that I played this one because I was having a lot of fun and can we all agree that all ghillied up is the best mission in this game

A classic, gamechanging shooter allround, and I agree with the MP being very addicting! But I don't find ghillied up all that great. Sure, it was amazing the first time and it still has a great atmosphere, but because of how tightly scripted it is, I find it not that engaging on following playthroughs. CoD campaigns are always lineair but the solid gunplay is what carries the game for me. In ghillied up they basically remove that awesome gunplay and replace it with a non-existent stealth system that punishes you harshly for trying anything different, like taking the scenic route or doing something "creative". At least it's not immediately game over when you're spotted, like some added stealth sections in games like to do.

Multiplayer of remastered cod 4 is dead that's true but you can still play as you said with bots that can be quite challenging sometimes. You can also play any gamemode any map with all weapons unlocked for this little nostalgia trip without max level tryhards that play same game for over 10 years.

At least COD4MW actually has a separate offline installation for the main campaign unlike its money/data gouging always online live service rackets MW2019 which require an online profile & a huge chunk of an 1TB SSD just to play it and replete with endless updates of fun killing crap.
