Back to nature is literally the game I grew up with, even back in the days of piracy and the version I had was black and white, glitchy, and barely visible by constantly going up on the screen. I fell in love with the game. Hell, I'd leave my Playstation on for weeks just because I didn't have a memory card back then.

Harvest Moon More Friends Of Mineral Town was the game I grew up playing for hours going down the mountain and when my parents left us behind to go fishing while camping. Dear God the memories I have with that game!!!

I prefer the graphics, sounds, music, and character designs of Back to Nature, but I honestly prefer playing the remake. The ability to stack items in the backpack (as well as having extra slots) makes all the difference. It might seem like I'm just trying to make the game easier, but the thing to keep in mind is that I grew up playing Harvest Moon 64, where the backpack starts out with eight slots (even though you still can't stack items), so I never *ever* liked the Back to Nature backpack starting out with only two slots. It completely botched my item-carrying strategies. This wasn't simply a case of "I want the game to be easier than it originally was," it was a case of "I want a return to earlier form."

@@ninonino5480 I never played A wonderful Life until last week. Grew up with back to nature and have to say, a wonderful life feels very strange. The fatigue/hunger system as well as selling crops/not having a real shipping bin frustrated me. The girls are not very lovable and the overall pacing of the game feels awkward. Watering crops all day to make almost no profit on them is really frustrating. It’s more worth picking up plants in the city and at the river to sell them, than growing crops (in a farming simulation lol )

I never played BTN but the remake only... but i admit, while their redesigns are good in the remake, mostly of their graphics/ sounds looks very souless compared to the old game... I wish they haven't used the same chibi style in a more 3D game, they fall flat with so much details going on.

I only find out later that in SoS: FoMT there is no competition in potential marriages. As the game progresses, the bachelors and bachelorettes stay single. In BtN, Popuri would freaking leave with Kai, only would come back during the summer, when you don't marry Popuri.

Aside from all the small details that BtN is better. The other aspect of QoL changes in FoMT is definitely better. Both are great game, and it is thanks to the developers who decided to remake their iconic game in modern engine and take back what originally theirs. (To people who don't know, yes Story of Seasons is basically Harvest Moon, Caz the western localize team does not work with the Japanese Dev anymore but decided to keep the name copyright to them. That's why the Japanese Dev team decide to go for a new name a.k.a Story of Seasons.)

I second Magical Melody. It was my second game and my favorite in the HM series when I was a kid. I also enjoyed HM Animal Parade, too. In that one you had rival events and could see the other townsfolk get married. You could also meet their grown up kids and see your kids interact with them.

Fun fact: back to nature was meant to be a remake of HM64 for the PS1. Since there were so many changes with the characters and town, tehy decided to just make it a parallel universe since it was already too late in development to change anything.

This is a bit silly, but one of the things that annoyed me the most was the house. I loved how the house upgrades looked like in back to nature, it felt super cozy and I always rushed to get them XD but in the remake... Omg it looks so plain and boring that I barely see the difference between one upgrade and the other, and you can't even decorate it if I remember correctly. Why did they have to do it like that? 😭

FoMT was amazing and my favorite harvest moon/farming game. The Story of Seasons remake is good, but I still much prefer the original as the remake (for me personally) is very slow. All the animations, waking around, etc is just slower than the original. Not to mention the time moves faster so I have less time in a day to get everything done. The animations are much more expressive in the original too.

From a game mechanic stand point, the only thing I miss from BtN is the "hot house". FoMT/SoS:FoMT had a lot of QoL changes that I enjoyed. Also the mines in FoMT had elevators that could be unlocked.

Yes, the only downside for me from FoMT is the sound. The music is somehow too loud n not suitable IMO for the game. Also its true, BTN has more and deep ambiance inside the game (sound from the rooster every morning, sound from the owl every night, insect, breeze from the beach, etc). So for me, BTN has more "relaxing" environment.

I love the first one, Harvest Moon: Back To Nature for the PS1. It’s the best since you don’t have to wait too long like in SoS:FoMT to ride on. The Festivals were more fun and you got more interactions in Harvest Moon: Back To Nature. I miss some great characters in the new version, like Grey the Fisherman and the Beehive person in Gotz.

The one good thing about friends of mineral town is that you can marry all of the bachelor/bachelorettes. Most the guys throughout the series I don’t think so most the time I would be the boy character so I could marry the girl. But if you don’t care about marrying a girl while being a girl or if you don’t care about marriage altogether then it doesn’t matter.
