7:11 is an HILAROUS take on the rabbit hole many of us has fallen into over the years: The impossible task of getting the best picture on old stuff with (whatevers's current) best technology - and ending with almost nothing connected.Kevin's pragmatic take is just so refreshing.

What got me into retro gaming is when I began to see the mini consoles coming out that had vintage games from Atari, Coleco, and Intellivision. I had those consoles and a few games in storage. I got in pretty late, as in 4-5 years ago. By then consoles and games, especially cartridges, were on the way towards the sky! There was also a large degree of nostalgia as I remember watching my sons and their friends play these games. The Christmas and birthday wish lists with consoles and games listed. All of these kids are now adults with their own kids playing the Switch, PS5 and Xbox!

I really enjoy hearing a collector like this advise people to just emulate and enjoy games. Personally right now. Emulate everything up to PS2, Dreamcast, Wii U and Xbox. Then maybe collect the consoles after that as its still the best way to enjoy them

20:29 spot on advice. It's so refreshing to hear a gamer/collector who actively encourages emulation and doesn't treat it like a dirty peasants option. I myself own old stuff and new (nowhere near your quantity) 8 systems in total from ps1 to wii to ps5 around 10-40 games per console depending, and I did own much more in my younger years like Sega megadrive and gameboy advance etc, but I downsized due to room, money and children. Now I'm very happy to use emulation to play any game and system I don't own anymore like nes, or gameboy advance. The retro snobbery on KZbin gets very tiresome, emulation really is the only practical means to play all these older games outside of a bank loan.

The NES has a start up problem because you would bend the pins by locking down the cartridge tray. I learned that you can boot up the game by not locking down the tray. By leaving the tray up, you avoid bending the pins. People say it starts up much better.

Exciting questions with helpful tips in your answers. Last year I started to collect consoles by myself, but only the most popular ones. Great tip to Not collect games. I plan to only buy a few games for each system, at least one good game for each system, and having all emulators of all systems and all games on a pc for actually playing them. I'm fine about having the games non physical, it saves space and is cheaper. The consoles itself I like to keep them on shelves, keep them in working condition, but also planning to upgrade some of them, especially the Dreamcast, for it can run the games from SD via GDEMU.

Absolutely love your channel! I think we're on the same wavelength on collecting retro games. Question, do you think plugging multiplugs into an APC with surge+battery backup is any kind of fire hazard? Example, 12 in 1 multi plug with all 12 plugs filled and one console turned on, plugged into an APC which is plugged into the wall. Would this be any kind of hazard?

The original xbox isn't too bad to work on if you mod it since you can replace the HDD a lot easier and still use it if the disc drive has issues

Hey GTS! Was curious what outputs you use with each system? RF/Composite/S-Video/HDMI/etc? Do you use any upscalers or anything for your older consoles or do you just run them through a switcher of some kind into your CRT? Mostly curious about the device that looks like an OSSC between two of your consoles I've seen in a previous video.
