I got Kara and Alice getting destroyed at the shore of Canada (because i forgot my stance on Kara and returned the tickets. Something i would not do if you had to pick your character and do its story. Alice was damaged and after getting on the shore she stopped working so Kara shut off too.) Markus was full pacifist and swayed the public. Connor was a machine that accomplished its missions but still took care about humans if it was possible so Hank did not unlive himself (like in full machine playthrough) but he did find Connor on the roof with the sniper and although i tried to spare him Hank is suicidal beyond belief (im on my third try and maybe this time this asshat will survive) and tried to push Connor off the roof (which was easily avoided and Hank did what he does best and died.). Later when Markus gave speach and androids ware pretty much "free" Connor still had its mission so it shoot Markus. The End. I love being a proper cold machine in this game.

On using "We Are Alive" more in the story, it might not be the focus of the game but you can make it the message Markus sends. In the graffiti, protest walk, and message to reporters at the protest the player can choose to say "We Are Alive." So maybe not the main focus of the story but can be the message the player relays to the world. Not complaining about your commentary. I really enjoyed it and it made me want to play it for the 100th time.
@ThreadBareHope12342 жыл бұрын
That is true. Also, I love that Marcus' journey is basically the Prince of Egypt (without the brother dynamic with an antagonist). Awesome The only reason I got uncomfortable with the slavery allegory at first was bc I was afraid the game was accidentally equating AI to a person or people to objects, and that some may take it literally. BUT then I realized that might be the point. Framing the victimized Androids as less than human was a good way to get us into the minds of the people in a racist society. It was creative.

50:52 I always took the meaning/thought behind Alice's reveal as an android being more about Kara. How she saw the documents hinting that Todd bought a child android. But she suppressed it. And how Zlatko said she's pretending to be a mother. She really was pretending. Not necessarily pretending to be a mother but that she is A human mother with a Human child. Karas story didn't have nearly as much stock in the "Who am I?" concept as the boys did. She almost deluded herself into thinking she wasn't an android and the (re)realization tore those false ideas down leaving her to face the truth. That she isn't human. But then ( I think) she's presented with the choice to embrace Alice after the discovery, Symbolizing her embracing the fact that just because she's not human, doesn't mean she can't feel and love and take care of Alice

Sadly, these games don't get sequel because it'd be too complicated. The sequel either has to have multiple beginnings to acknowledge the multiple endings (which would be developer's hell) or they would have to turn one of the playthroughs into the canonical one, which would basically null the choices of every single player who made a different choice, a real slap in the face on most of the fanbase. That's why their games don't get sequels
@collincampbell75082 жыл бұрын

The Alice twist IS a win! The twist isn’t for Kara, it’s for US, the player! That’s the moment you reveal your true feelings about androids. The game even asks you directly: if humans and androids are both equally alive, then why should it matter that you spent all this time protecting and bonding with a girl who was created in a factory instead of a womb. She’s just a girl and that’s more important than her species. I had the same reaction you did initially, like Kara’s struggle was worth less than if she were human. It revealed I was more biased than I realized. That’s worth 100 wins. The bonding between humans and androids is the theme of Connor’s arc, it’s not needed in Kara’s. What a perfect game!
@Antonio-fj5gs2 жыл бұрын
Your choice of words and the explanation was very deep and your right this we had respected this lil girl some much that when the twist is revealed it doesn’t change anything Alice will always be everyone’s favorite lil girl even is she is an Android. I think it would have been better if it was a mirror to Hank and Connor. A bond between human and machine. also a human going through what the andoids go through too. a way to show how intertwined their life can be. Hate is something we learn, a child wouldn't know to hate androids. the moments where humans could see AI as people were my favourits and this could have been more of that. anyway, Kara's story is still my favourite. (sorry for spelling)
@elizabethcatlion70152 жыл бұрын
I had a couple problems with that twist. Mainly, it wasn't really a surprise. It's very easy to guess from the beginning that she's an android, I guessed it in the first few chapters. Also, I thought it would have been a lot more impactful if Alice was a human because it shows another way humans and androids can live together. To me personally it just seemed like an excuse to have a big reveal. Maybe I am a little biased considering I kind of never liked Alice to begin with (I mean seriously, no matter what you do in Fugitives she's unhappy. Like, "ok Alice, I won't steal these clothes and money, but we can't sleep in the motel if we do that, and we have to sleep in a car or an abandoned building and you won't be happy... c'mon Alice I don't see you giving me any better ideas. And then she's always cold which bothered me cause as shown in the last chapter Kara's able to turn that setting off like it's nothing) Again, just my opinion, it just seemed like a cheap excuse for a "dramatic reveal"

In the second investigation with the 28 stab wounds, the Android hides in the attic, the reason he gives is that he doesn't know what to do, there was nobody there to tell him. @jamesallard72232 жыл бұрын
Connor is the exposition. Through his story, we get the lore. Markus is the driving force of the moment. He brings a crowd. Kara is the heart of the story. That is why there is such a preponderance of cellos in her score (I listen to all three while working, literally over and over again). You brought up the score several times (and I agree with every point you made, every time), but look to some of the titles for her soundtrack: Not Just A Machine; Song Of The Lost Girl; What Is A Mother. Kara has something in common with Connor. Both have been completely erased and returned. When Todd the Vile One is picking her up at the beginning of her story, he is asked what happened to her, and TtVO says "she got hit by a truck." She has to be brought back from zero, she has no name, no recollection of Todd or Alice, or even the nature of Alice. Unlike Connor, though, she was not designed to have all memories stockpiled and restored as needed. Can you tell I am a fan of the game, too? Oh my, yes. D:BH is the ONLY game I immediately restarted after I finished playing through, made different choices and played a different game than I did previously. It was literally a new experience the second time around.

Wow, I didn’t even know Hank killing himself was an outcome- I’m very glad I managed to keep everyone alive even on my first play through, I was so surprised to see how the most common result is that at least Simon dies from that tower heist - but I really got lucky with my choices I guess 😅 I made Connor basically prioritise Hank and become deviant- made Kara stay in the car and get away without Connor even seeing her, let Todd make amends with Alice and got her group across the boarder to Canada with no issues- BECAUSE I chose pacifist with Markus and made the public support androids (Just wanna add I was shocked by the amount of times you got Connor killed, my first play through I didn’t even know he could die and come back since I never got him killed 😅)

Same. I think we literally had the same playthrough bro. And also, the part where you hear the gunshot and then Sumo starts howling.... I didn't even know there was a possibility for Hank to kill himself, and, just, *insert kronk meme whilst crying at the same time*

23:35 This hits waaaay too close to home. Kara's story is probably my favorite, just because of how relatable it is. At least in the beginning. I grew up with an abusive father who would scream at me for days on end, literally. He would go all day, all night and the entire next day screaming and yelling at me. No food, no sleep. Just constant screaming. He rarely hit me but he would quite regularly throw stuff at me. Moved away from there 3 years ago, at the age of 17. I graduated high school and got myself a well paid job as a truck driver but it wouldm ost likely not please him anyway. I'm still scarred and I have severe PTSD from 12 years of almost constantly walking on egg shells and abuse. Talked to a therapist and it probably took her about 30 seconds to figure out all of my problems and how messed up I really am from it. She said it's a miracle I haven't taken my own life yet. Haven't gotten a doctor to diagnose it yet but she just told me straight out that I most likely have severe depression, anxiety and PTSD. I still wake up in the middle of the night, hearing footsteps outside my door, afraid my father is going to barge in an start screaming at me and start hitting me again.

It hurt to see the choices you made in Connor’s story. It’s your play through though so it’s your experience, and I respect it. There’s an epilogue where Hank and Connor see each other after the games over if you become best friends with Hank, and it’s beautiful. They really do become like a father and son if you make the choices to love Hank, even when he hates you. Those choices also impact the main story, having Hank alive, and as a partner through the whole of the game is wonderful. He adds so much to Connor with his acceptance of him by the end. I respect you for doing this video based on your personal experience though, as the game plays differently for many, and many don’t know what to do in a lot of situations. Thank you for finally reviewing this game as well, I suggested/asked awhile ago in the comments that you should do it so I’m super happy to see it now.

Detroit: Become Human is a pretty unique game combining choice based gameplay as well as quick time events and keeping the plot focused on androids. The game is beautiful and it was definitely one of my favorite stories in a game. The animations are realistic and it really makes you think about the future and the game. Without a doubt deserved a spot at the game awards alongside Spider-man and God of War. Connor was obviously my favorite character in this game. He had the best story/arc, had many choices, was funny in a way, and most importantly, he was cool. Connor is almost like John Wick, but as a super awesome android. While playing as Connor, it makes the player feel like they’re the most amazing person in the world, with all these tricks and abilities. This game doesn’t need a sequel, but I wish we got one. I want to experience the feeling of solving a crime or taking down a squad of soldiers/cops without even flinching or just walk away slowly after saving someone and having the screen say “Mission Successful”.

Just realized at 13:10 that what Todd says has two meanings. Yes he’s being an abuser POS but he also has briefly recognized the escapist nature of what he’s doing. He most likely will never see his real daughter again and is trying to make up for it with a fake, and when he realizes just how pathetic everything he’s done truly is, he breaks down for a couple of seconds. Some great detail for a character with such little screen time.

I loved their dynamic too. I love the grumpy, experienced, unenthussed old guy works with young, polite, by the book (appearing) young guy stories for some reason. They had a similar dynamic between two characters in Gotham (the only consistently good thing about Season 1 and 2).

My ending was different in a few ways. I made my Connor someone determined to solve the case but gain morality and humanity through hank. Hank never killed himself, Connor became deviant and helped in the war I started with Markus by infiltrating cyberlife. The only deviant I actually caught was the one in the attic and I he confessed. Markus at first, became passive and as more androids died, his breaking point came at the protest where we were slaughtered for standing. We won the war effort. Kara was able to escape into Canada with Alice and Luther alive (I sacrificed a Jerry model).

I never thought you'd actually do this game, it's one of my favourites in terms of story and the sheer amount of work that went into it blows me away constantly. Edit: that line, "but it's fun to think about" Is so important to this game. Even if you only ever play the game once and never explore all it has to offer; you can imagine what the other routes are like, and even if you've milked this story dry for every single ending... it's still open for you to imagine what happens after or even create your own believable AUs with choices the game never offered.

I may be wrong, but I believe when you visit the guy who created the code for the androids at the end of the game, he reveals that RA9 was the code segment that allowed the androids to become sentient. He never told anyone it was there and he basically put it in in the hopes that they would all one day "awaken" and be actually alive. That dude was a mystery. He was a total sleezbag that treated his androids like absolute shit, and when he talked about RA9 he made it seem like it came from a narcissistic desire to create life, but there were a few moments where it seemed like he thought of the androids as his children and secretly cared for them more than he let on. It's almost like he created them to be slaves and treats them like slaves, but deep in his heart he wants them to be free and he can't reveal that or the company will remove the code that does so.
@sarthakkhare98432 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to say. It's because of the choices that you got the kind of story you did. Kara's and Connor's journey actually explore the "we are alive" and "what it means to be human" themes that you wanted more of. Markus was my least favorite story thread of the three. Kara's story had my entire heart and maintaining and seeing Connor-Hank "good" relationship is literally the best thing about this game

49:04 actually this is explained in the ending where Connor is deviant and follows Markus’ *peaceful* revolution. During Markus’ speech there is a moment where Connor has 1 last chance to become fully deviant before he shoots Markus to “complete his mission”. And you can see that in the Eden Garden there is a control panel that if touched by Connor (while Kamski’s “exit” dialogue is echoed in the background) before his programming takes over again, he becomes human fully.

I agree that the Alice twist seemed less impactful than if she were… you know. Although, I think they did that because the media would’ve seen Alice as a hostage. But that would’ve been a great story line for the game to follow; Kara faced with choosing giving Alice back to the humans (on the assurance Alice would be safe and Alice not wanting to leave Kara) or keeping her (trusting herself to keep Alice safe) despite what that might cause for public opinion of the deviants in Jericho. It probably would’ve made the game even longer and more complicated, but I think that would’ve been cool for Kara’s character arc.

Me and my sister (also a closet fan of this game), thought about the story and the ham-fisted parallels, and thought of something: What if Markus just wasn't a playable character? Kara's trying to find him, Connor's trying to hunt him, and there's no incredi-bias towards the revolution, more like Conner and Kara are caught in the crossfire. No ham-fisted story, subtler themes including the segregation ones obviously gone for, and more ambiguity imo
