Frank Bramley, Painter of the Square Brush

Frank Bramley, is an English painter who made his mark with scenes of drama and the use of what is called the 'Square Brush Method'; which was in vogue after the emergence of Bastien Lepage's remarkable masterpieces of 'Joan of Arc', and 'Grandfather', which debuted in France at the Salon during the 1880s. The power of realism done in this fashion reached English shores with the group of painters later called the Newlyn Artists- a Colony of sorts- made full use of the technique. Frank Bramley made several of his now-famous masterpieces in this quaint town.
