Martial Artists REACT to Ghost of Tsushima | Experts React

In this episode of Experts React, martial artists, Gemma Nguyen and Yoshi Sudarso, will be reacting to gameplay from Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and
published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Featuring an open world, the player controls Jin Sakai, a
samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The game
was released on July 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4. It received praise for its visuals and combat.
Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure stealth game played from a third-person perspective. The
game features a large open world, without waypoints, which can be explored without guidance.
Players can travel to different parts of the world on horseback. An item that acts as a grappling hook is
available to access difficult to reach areas. The game features side quests and non-playable characters
with which the player can interact.

One of the things about this game I love is how good it does at striking a good balance between being very realistic in terms of combat and swordsmanship, but also gives that little bit of necessary game mechanics without feeling like it compromises what a soldier would reasonably do in combat (mostly).

Those "shields" are called sode. They're designed to hang off the shoulders of the armor, and protect the wearer from arrows and melee attacks. Armor designs like that lead samurai to believe their armor needed no shield.

Samurai started out as primarily archers so they needed both hands free, the shoulder shields evolved to permit that.

In regards to the arrow knowing the flying enemy back to you, I don't remember which game it was, but there was this part where I was trying to run away, and the enemy kept hitting me with this ranged stagger attack from behind me, but of course the stagger animation has me move backwards, TOWARDS the source of the hit, saying "Screw you (as in me, the player) and screw physics!" Dying there like that was, understandably, frustrating.
