Man I feel you 200%. The root of the violence were seeing today is traced back to gangsta rap. Gangsta rap in the 90s even with the violence that it had, still had Soul still had Funk and came with a message. Since 2000 mainstream gangsta rap has lost it all. No Soul, No Funk, No Message. All you have left is the violence. Now in 2021, it's out of control. It's a trend to murder each other today. I must say I loved old school G-Funk. Warren G, DJ Quik, The Chronic, but no doubt it's created the chaos we have today. New generations have taken over gangsta rap, and don't care for the Soul, Funk or Message that the old school did.

Hip hop is in shambles. I agree that gangsta rap ruined it. Because of that, we got tpain, we got lil wayne. We got six nine. This genre in my personal opinon, cannot be saved. It's dead. Practically. The souls of true hip hop at least. The fans are to blame as well. I can't stand the idiocracy we live in. Fuck this genre now. It's sickening. This genre also puts a racist ideology in people's heads. It is a disgrace to the black community.

I feel extremely lucky to have grown up during the era when I did since my introduction to hip hop was through Run DMC as a really young kid, and the first albums of my own that I bought when I was in fourth grade were Paid In Full by Eric B and Rakim and Bigger and Deffer/Bad by LL Cool J. LL was my favorite rapper for at least four years straight. I really fell in love with hip hop and got so much joy from the energy and the culture. What really ruined it is when The Chronic came along. That’s when hip hop really started going off the rails. You had gangsta rap before but it set alongside a variety of other voices and it was just one of many, but The Chronic established a formula and template that everybody wanted to follow, which is what led to hip hop’s downfall.

Gangsta Rap really started on the East coast. Schooly D made the first gangsta rap record called PSK and he is from Philly, then you had BDP had a song 9mm Goes Bang, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo first album. Early West coast music such as World Class Wreckin Cru, Egyptian Lover made dance type rap records you had Toddy Tee with a song called The Batteram but that was more story telling about the tank knocking down drug spot homes. NWA and Ice T popularised gangsta rap.

For the longest, I've always been more of an alternative rap/jazz rap person. Aside from watching countdown videos of the worst rappers/rap songs ever videos on here, I avoid 21st century, mainstream rap and instead I always check out the less-renowned rappers' music on this site. I'm also more into boom bap. which is one sub-genre I've been getting into more and more for some time. I wish the mainstream music industry and major labels would just die out already, in addition to the latest rap sub-genres as well. They should be irrelevant by now. Basing what kinds of rap songs get more attention due to popular opinion or public opinion can take a leap. And maybe whoever came up with the idea of popular opinion or public opinion as a determination or dependence should've taken a leap as well. It's incredible how the majority have no sense of great taste nor know the opposite when they see it or hear it. The label people partly responsible for this can take a leap for their conspiracy against the audience/fans, especially blacks. They may have got many sucked into this, but I'll never be one of those who buy into it.

I don't mind lyrical. (Actually, that's a good thing because they show how dedicated they are into the craft, and show off what they can really do.) However, auto tune, and mumble draw the line because of what they represent. No talent, but rather, a way to get away with the philosophy, and effort into the genre. It's just a portal to money, and success, but in reality, they are not successful because they did not try to do anything groundbreaking. They are hungry hogs for money, and fame. Because they aren't respected by honest people.

Many old school rap fans will have a hard time accepting the fact that NWA and rise of gangsta rap planted the seeds for the demise of rap music in terms of overall quality. @Louie14441 The actors in movies like the Godfather were playing their role. They never tried to act like felons and thugs in personal life or encourage viewers to engage in a destructive lifestyle. Rappers promote living the thug life as the gold standard of being a black person and glamorize the criminals and felons who they wish to be like. The old school rap fans who listen to Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Wu Tang are no different from modern rap fans who like Lil Baby and NBA Youngboy. These artists talk about the same subject matter but the only difference is that the gangsta rappers of the past are more lyrical.
@CopycatNinja875 Жыл бұрын
@Louie14441 I agree with you on metal bands promoting the wrong message on the impressionable young kids who are sheltered and not fully developed. Rap gets more criticism because it has been heavily exposed to the masses more and it crosses the barrier between the races and cultures. Many casual fans are repulsed by the Gothic, Satanic undertones of metal artists and they are perceived as weirdos instead cool ppl.
@Linklex73 ай бұрын
@Caitlinhalliday44Yes it is worst. The Godfather, while being a violent movie, didn’t inspire people to be more violent. Unlike video games, movies, or tv shows, or even heavy metal music, gangsta rap has inspire people to commit violent crimes.
