@@helloworld33577 Greg was more adept in mind game rather than management of man and application of skill. He was setting the narratives to over power the decisions being taken by the captain. Australians were never a formidable side up to 1983. West Indies won the first two WC and then India. With 2300 ODI runs in his kitty, Greg never led the Australians to WC victory, though Lilee and Thompson were on their side. It was Allen Border who led to Australian Victory. Ganguly on the other side led to runner up in WC 2003. I think that team was more formidable than today's but their skill to stop Australians on an achievable target was not made efficiently. On the other hand McGrath trapped Sachin on a fast rising deliveries Ganguly thought played some good shorts but trapped in the same fashion. Here comes the patience and skill to rise to the occasion by selection of shots and placing one's eyes to chase. By that time Ganguly has made 9000 ODI runs and as usual captaincy takes a toll on personal games specially when the team is not doing well. But Greg projected it as Senior vs Junior, players placing themselves over the team and other suitable narratives which can have him deciding the game strategy. However, he was power hungry but does not know the execution and management of teams to achieve it. Ultimately he failed and as usual never takes the onus of that failure. Some Ganguly haters put him as saviour but Ganguly was without doubt more sharp in man management, identification of merits by reform in the quota system, better ODI & Test batsman, nourishing young buds and leading from front.
