SOme expensive knives are worth it...but if you want a good working knife...usually a 20$ knife will do the job...and you will not be as sorry when you snap the tip or chip the blade. I like my Ganzos....

I think people just need to be honest with themselves about what they will be using the knife for. Im a chef and i kept buying overbuilt benchmades and spydercos. I've sold almost my entire knife collection except my LT Wright genesis flat ground, and a delica wharncliffe, delica ffg, and an endura ffg. Completely serves my needs as all i really use them for is opening bags of oysters, cutting beet butts and harvesting herbs.

I just picked up a ganzo g739 and so far am very impressed with it. The g729 is next on my list. I laid the edge angle back to 17 degrees inclusive and finished it to an 8k edge and it works well. I ve used it for a little batoning, some food prep, making feathersticks, cutting fabric, and some other softer materials very well.

i always used to use teflon tape and liked it's performance but, a friend gave me a pint of loctite so i've been using that ever since. i have yet to try out a pm2 or this knife but, i thought since you were talking about it that it would be worth while as your reviews are as always, top notch. i also enjoy your eloquence(a fitting word i think). you are a pleasure to listen to. thank you for sharing your thoughts.

The Para2 is just a cool knife that works well and I love playing with it as well... Just goes to show that a well made model is not easily pushed off the market by an imitation.

Yep, I also have both the PM2 and the Ganzo.. actually bought about eight of them. It does give the PM2 a helluva run for its money. My pm2 is the s110V version so edge retention is miles appart from 440C. But beyond that, from a pure users perspectrive, the Ganzo performs about the same, it needs sharpening more often but in return sharpens easier and takes a great edge with little effort. The Spyderco is significantly lighter, slimmer and is much easier to operate with gloves on. Ganzo is definatley the better value for your money, but its not nearly as satisfying to own and use.

i realized that there is extra room for the axis lock to travel in the channel and you could change the lock up time by shaving a little at a time the face where axis lock engages. I did it and the axis lock travels much further up the knife tang making the lockup much sturdier to shock and staying locked. hope it helps

I have been enjoying my G729 and several other Ganzo knives and they have all been good performers. Excellent testing review, the best I've seen on this knife. I just got the fixed blade Ganzo G801, trying to put some real use time on it to see how well it performs. Thank you for the demonstration.

The G729 and the G727 were some of the first Ganzos that I bought quite a few years ago, and guess what? I still have them and they're still in use. The Ganzo 727s, which you've reviewed sometime in the future, is probably getting the most carry as I now am spending less time in the outdoors.

I had 3 G727 folders. I liked them and gave to away to friend and another friend lost one. Now, because of the 727s and RAT 2 I bought another one. Yeah...I do like it. Reduced the edge angle to 15 dps...and darkened the pocket clip. I like it. Not as comfortable as the RAT1 is...but feels more stable in hand.

I like the fact that you beat the crap out of it even though 99.9% of people would never do these kind of things to a pocket knife. In the end it’s a sub $20 knife that is great for edc tasks. You need to chop a tree limb.....get a fixed blade. You need to cut boxes, string, rope, cloth, etc.....this is a great knife to do so.

I am glad you reviewed this folder. I bought the cammo handle version. I noted the same issue, the lock is very shallow. They almost have this right. They should make the locking area of the blade like a fork, then it won't give. I have not tested mine as rough as you did, I think these are more of a lighter to medium task folders. But in a pinch, I would not hesitate to abuse it. I also got the G727. Very similar, except the blade mimicks the RAT1 blade. It has a similar short lock issue. But I like it a lot. It actually flips better than the 729 because the blade is thicker and heavier. You should try to get one. They are very economical at Gearbest. The 727 is like $5 cheaper than the 729. I can't complain about these folders. The price is so good on them that you can always abuse it and if it breaks get another.You are right, they are Spyderco quality, but they are not priced like it either. I am getting bronze washers for them, because I think I can make them tighter and they lock better when they are tighter.On the 729, I took it part. I released a little tension on the axis springs, I polished the baled, washers and liners in the moving areas. After that it is amongst one of the blade action folders I have. It is actually smoother than my Para 2 and my Mille.

+mikedifeo Hi! Thanks I did get the G727 when I got this one... I also sharpened that one but have not played with it yet... I like the RAT1 more than the G727....that one has a smaller handle...and for some reason the handle feels weird...the RAT1 was the folder I carried for the longest amount of time...so it might be because of that... The lock did set a bit after batoning it...I will open it up and remove a bit of steel from the liners to see if I can get it to stay locked for batoning and such tasks... I do not flip my knives out as much as I used to so I think I will keep the teflon washers..for now.. :) I do have a few more Ganzo Folders and I want to show them off...but I need to pace myself or I will forget things...so as long as I am testing this one still I modify the others...edge angle and things like that....

+SpartanJohns I love the RAT1. Just got a RAT 1A. Let me tell you the assisted system works great. One of my favorite folders is the Kershaw Blur. I have a few of them. The RAT 1A is a fast as the Blur, but when it locks it feels like you closed the door in a tank. It makes the Blur feel like a toy. Been carrying it for about 3 days. I like big folders. I don't use a pocket clip. I carry them in a belt pouch. I like the way the handles feel in my folders without the pocket clip.

+SpartanJohns The Blur is a light to medium duty folder. It is assisted, but you can take it apart and make it manual. The Blur comes in Scanvik steel, S30V and the new Carpenter steel. I have all three. To be honest it is hard to tell the difference in daily light duty use. I think the S30V holds the edge a tad longer. What I like about it is how nice and easy it fits in the pocket. It is so light, it just disappears in your pocket. Handles are aluminum with inserts of a kind of skating tape so you can have a no slipping grip. There are 2 folders that I use for pocket use, the Endura 4 and the Blur. I think the Blur is a little stronger than the Endura. I just go the new Tanto Blur with the carpenter steel. I am using to see how it holds its edge. If you shop around you can pick the Scavick steel Blur for about $45. I don't think you can hard use this folder, but I don't know because I never tired it. I figure why break it. I have other blades that I use for hard use. As you know I don't do vids. But I wanted to tell you a bit about the Blur, just in case you decide to get one.

+mikedifeo I liked the Blur for a longer time but here it is a bit more expensive. The cheapest one I have seen was about 85 Euros without shipping. I figure that if I wait long enough I might get one used at a better price. I tend to edc my more expensive folders and use them for daily chores without taking it too far. The Ganzos I do carry every once in a while as an extra edc and those I do abuse every now and then...just because they are so affordable and obviously they can take it. I purchased three Ganzo knives from Gearbest.com. The G704-G ($14.96 delivered), G720-O ($16.95 delivered), and the G727M-CM ($11.92 delivered). All are great value buys...but my favorite is the G704. Its blade and handle shape are perfect for me. Operation is smooth. It's my EDC of choice.

Why baton with a folding knife? Use a hatchet! Or use a strong full tanged fix blade knife. I recently purchase the same model Ganzo knife. I found it to be a good knife for what it is designed for at a much lower price point than a Spyderco. Thanks for the review!

+Be ej I worked a bit with the G733. I compared it with the G729....and while the blade shape and grind of the G729 make work a bit easier(even with the factory edge) I found that the G733 feels more stable in hand...And I think it looks cooler :)

I have to say, though I LOVE this GANZO G729 for edc, there is one thing that really bothers me: the pocket clip is NOT reversible, as the screws are glued to the scales. There is absolutely no way of loosening them. I had this problem with several Ganzo knives I own. So to all you lefties out there and those who hate pocket clips like me, be warned...

+Gero Tempelmann I took the pocket clip off from mine with no problem. I had some difficulty removing the pocket clip from another model but with a bit of trying I succedeed. That was a model that had a black pocket clip with black screws, maybe it was the paint. Be sure to get a good torx and try again, maybe put some lubricant around them, let it sit there and try again in a few hours

Hey, would you say this is a good knife for someone who cannot afford a para 2? Where I live a para 2 will run me back about $200 whereas i can purchase this knife for $25 or so. I also want to state that I do not want to be afraid to use the knife and like you said, because the para 2 is more expensive and what not you refrain from doing certain things to it. Anyways, just wondering if this is a decent knife in terms of being a good hard use folder, i will not baton with it so i do not believe that lock problem will be a issue for me however i will chop with it and make feather sticks, or even use it around a camp site. Price verses durability, looks pretty good to me, and I don't buy from China. Also I must close my eyes when someone batons a folder. I purchased a Cold Steel one piece about 10 years ago, the thick clunky tanto for $11.00, and it batons very well. I realize this is a test, but people in the woods ought to carry a one piece knife for emergencies if nothing else. Last year I asked every hiker in the Sierra Nevada Mts. what they were using on the back pack trip. 95% were carrying a folder. Very good vid..thumbs up...

I was initially confused as I thought their PM2 "inspired" knife actually had a liner lock. Upon checking it seems they offer the G729 and the G730 which looks to be identical but with a liner lock. It is a little shame they couldn't have made the travel on the axis lock a little further to prevent it bumping out when struck. Almost a home run for the price, I might just pick one up. Cheers.

+Leigh Robinson Like I said in the video, it did set a bit. So now it only happens every once in a while. The big problem is when you apply pressure on hit handle while hitting it. The shock moves the bolt and it becomes disengaged. I will try to open the knife up and file a bit more material down from the liners...maybe even from the blade...I think that should do it. But for the money I am not at all disappointed. I rather like it. It holds an edge. the grind is thin...opens well..no bladeplay if you tighten the pivot...all cool so far

i got the spyderco dragonfly frn .its a juck $5.00 gas station knife.that i got ripped off for $55.00 . it was nonfunctional out of box .i could crush it with my hands ( the cutlerlover junk cheep knife test ) after a few hrs of fine tuning i got it to work a little .the g10 model i suppose it better but im not rolling the dice for $80.00 after being burned $55.00 on the frn model .ill wait for the clone .

Very cool video! And this is so coincidental. :-) I just got the Ganzo Rat one (G727M) look alike a few days ago too. Same color handle as yours. I've been thinking of you a lot and wondering what you would think if it. It was a coin flip for me between the 727 and the spidey look alike.. I went with the 727 because of something you said long ago about the Rat one's comfort. I also got it because I wanted the axis lock instead of the lock the Rat has.. I didn't get it to split wood with, but it's nice to know I'm covered.. It's a bit stiff still, but I'm loving the axis lock. I find it way easier to disengage compared to the narrow little frame lock thing.. This is a bigger folder than I usually like too. I'm liking the extra handle space though for a change. I must say that I prefer the RAT1's handle as the G727 has a smaller handle...and that is the folder i carried as an edc the most....so it might just be my "hand" memory kicking in. I am still testing this one and I have a few others but I will get to the G727... What you could do is take it apart and file down the liners and washers...maybe replace the teflon washer with bronze phosphorus washers....that should make it smoother...also some fine grit sandpaper might help with that.... I prefer the feel of my rat 1 as I said but I too like the axis lock much better... And so far...the 440C that Ganzo uses holds a better edge than AUS8..so point goes to Ganzo

This knife is really beautiful and quality. 9cr18mov steel (or 440c) is very strong steel for daily use. Pivot screw may be loose, use Loctite 243. price / performance super. Enjoy nature!

I will try FeCl and maybe that will work...if not...maybe I will try that stonewash method to at least make it look cool...or sandpaper to just take away the shine...and is it is not polished my guess is that the blueing will take better

+John Tedichwon I have been thinking about that...but now...I must admit that I am just too much into the "thin the edge down" modify edge angle and check out the steel" fever...I rarely carry Ganzos as edc's. More in the woods and there I really don't care how the clip looks....But I guess after I try out the models that "speak" to me and I can get an idea about how much I can thin out an edge before it starts taking damage in regular tasks, i will get to see which ones I could start to carry as edc knives.. I do like them. Don't know what it is but I have to be honest and say that each one I got lately I was pleasantly surprised.

I enjoy watching your videos and have been subbed for some time now. I dont understand why you would want to chop with a folder. Perhaps feather sticking to check edge retention but battoning and chopping might be getting a bit too much for this knife

+dragon3831 It is a test...these knives are very inexpensive...and I have noticed that they can take it...so batoning is a test...to see if the knife can handle it...it is not something I recommend doing...however many people, the ones who use a knife on a daily basis will chop and baton knives...i recently worked around the cabin with someone...he pulled out his liner-lock folder and hammered it into a piece of wood to make a notch...regular people do it too...the ones who use their knives...and they don't stop to think: should I do it? it is ok for a liner lock? no...they need a notch...have a hammer and a knife...and just make that notch... My goal here is to show that there are 20$ knives that can take abuse...and walk away without damage...People buy 250$ ZT's and if they chop with the folder it is considered abuse....and the warranty is voided.... But I can baton this 17$ knife...and it takes no damage...? It is a very inexpensive tool...that anybody can afford...and it can take a pounding... I am not recommending people do this...But I will test...and show the results..good or bad...

SpartanJohns I was just brought up to use the right tool. I dont beat on my knives, and yes, I understand many people baton with their knives, and I do accept that. I suppose if that 1 chance in a billion, im ever stuck in that certain situation...I would baton too. but to do this with a folder seems a bit much. I think the gamzo's get a bad rap honestly. I have around 10 of them that I use daily. No complaints with them at all. Not everyone can afford a 150-300$ knife. If it breaks big deal. If a high end knife breaks I'd be upset cuz I'm out top dollar. But honestly I have no issues with them at all

Ganzo G729 .... imi place inca, imi place pentru ca asa cum spuneam si initial e ok ca si constructie, are materiale de calitate si tolerante ok, Aspectul si functionalitatea sunt super mai ales avand in vedere pretul. Imi place defapt pentru ca seamana atat de mult cu Spyderco. Insa , exista intotdeauna si un insa, din 4 exemplare, unul al meu unul al tatalui meu si doua ale unor colegi , 3 au prezentat urme de rugina pe lama dupa ceva vreme. Broboane fine maronii care nu se duceau cu apa si sapun . Din cate stiu eu si toti cei care sunt pasionati de cutite, 440C ESTE un otel inoxidabil. Am ceva cutite din 440c (Muela si alte branduri) si niciodata nici unul nu a dat semne de patare sau ruginire. Toate astea, coroborat cu faptul ca ''nu tine chiar asa bine tais' ma fac sa cred ca dragii nostri producatori NU au folosit acest otel ci o varianta mai ieftina probabil. Tipic chinezesc . Nu am nimic impotriva lui, imi place si il folosesc in continuare. Mecanismul este in continuare solid, si over all e un cutit foarte bun, atata tot ca m-a dezamagit un pic treaba cu rugina .... Numai bine !

+oly loly Salut! Multumesc mult de feedback. Eu nu am observat rugina pe nici un Ganzo. Trebuie sa las unul in bucatarie, langa chiuveta. Chiar sunt curios... G720 si-a tinut taisul foarte bune...Acum testez G732 iar acesta nu il tine asa de bine in sensul ca nu pot sa il ascut dupa ce lucrez cu el doar cu strop-ul. Trebuie si piatra. Am atribuit acest lucru faptului ca inca nu l-am ascutit decat o data si nu am luat asa de mult odet de pe tais...si probabil ca acel otel, de pe tais, e "ars" un pic de la procedeul de ascutire pe polizor... Si acesta e un pas pe care trebuis sa il fac... Acest G729 pe care l-am prezentat l-am dat unui prieten iar e e foarte multumit de el....nu mi-a zis nimic despre rugina sau ca nu si-ar tine taisul bine, chiar din contra.... Din nou iti multumesc pentru feedback. Acum am doua chestii de facut. Una voiam sa o fac oricum. Hey Denis! I've got a request... Could you try to get hand of a Wood Jewel knive and do a review on it? I bought one last summer when I was on a roadtrip in scandinavia, and I absolutely love mine, but I wonder what your thoughts are on them. What are Wood Jewel knives? Well, Wood Jewel is a company settled in Finland that makes scandinavian-style survival knives & scandinavian outdoor gear. As far as I know they are not very known, but I do believe that they make very high quality knives judging by the one I have. I don't even know what model of the knive have, but I'm quite sure it's one of their larger if not their largest model. I'll tell you the story about it in a sec :) Here is their website: woodjewel[dot]com If you google 'wood jewel knive' you'll find a few retailers that are settled in mainly the UK I believe. How did I get mine? Well that's a rather funny story. So I was on a roadtrip in Norway, and eventually we drove on to Hardangervidda, the largest Norweigian and European highlands. After driving past a few small villages and settlements we came to this tent with a reindeer in front of it, and it apparently was a small survival-gear shop. As curious as I was I decided to go in and find a whole bunch of those Wood Jewel knives & a few other knive-brands. After inspecting a few of them, the one I currently have appealed most to me and I bought it. So yeah.... I pretty much found the thing in the middle of no where in a place that doesn't have electricity or any cellphone reach at all :L Let me know what you think about doing such a video! If it gets too expensive then I fully understand!

+ImJustACowLol I have looked at their site and I have seen their puukko knives. They are nice...but I don't think that I will get one soon. When it comes to 2 bevel ground knives(scandi grinds) i always choose Mora or I get blade blanks and ask a friend to make a handle... I was also looking into Helle knives but they are rather expensive compared to Mora models or just getting a blade blank and making the handle. To the price I must always take shipping into account...not many companies ship to where I live and the cost can get rather high...but if I should stumble on such a knife, at a good price I will keep your recommendation in mind

+SpartanJohns If I had to chose between Helle or Wood Jewel I'd probably go for Wood Jewel even when taking shipping money into account. Both brands are of very similar quality, but Wood Jewel is quite significantly cheaper. As for my bandaged thumb....by the scars on my hand you could tell that they were not made by a knife or axe. It was an accident I suffered a couple of years ago which is still healing. +northmanscall Apearences can be deceiving. As to your question... This is not a knock-off. This is Ganzo's version of the PM2. And it does a great job. If it hadn't I would have said that. I like it! That is why I presented it. I thought I would like it that is why I bought it. Turns out I got an excellent knife for 17$... Maybe I am a smart guy... Who knows? fact remains...I had an SR1A that cost me 100+$ and I didn't use it as much as I used my G720...that costs 20$....so I started liking ganzo... So I didn't pay 100+$ for another PM2 to baton with... I think that is pretty smart! yeah.... I don't really care if I appear to be a smart guy.... I know that I am ;)

+SpartanJohns so you got a good knife at an exceptional price. but the design is 95 percent Spyderco Paramilitary 2 which wont get a dime from ganzo. doesn't this fact bother you? shouldnt ganzo with their good quality at low price be able to produce their own designs? i mean there is nothing against a quality knife on a budget. but i just don't like this attitude some companies have. takimg an entire design and changing some minor details. you would have more integrity by only supporting and reviewing original brands with original designs in my opinion. supporting counterfeit products and design stealing sends the wrong signals.

I am guessing that you did not watch the entire video just skipped thru it. Watch it and listen to what I said. As for integrity.. to me integrity means something else than to you. To me integrity means being honest. Supporting Spyderco...yes...ok... here's another question: does Spyderco support me? I have 8 Spyderco's. That means that thru me they got a bit of cash. Did they support me? Or is that a one way street? Why does Spyderco not make a more inexpensive version of their models so that more people can afford them? A long discussion... BUT here's the catch: I can spend my money for anything I want! And as long as I am honest about my findings, in my opinion, my integrity remains unblemished. If Ganzo did indeed steal Spyderco's design...it is up to Spyderco to do something about it. but again...watch the video entirely and listen to what I said... then we can talk some more
