That crab is actually one of the most ridiculously rare enemies in the game. They only spawn when someone either drops an item and then reloads the area, or dies with five or more humanity and fails to pick up their souls again. The thing is, they don't appear in that player's world, but in the world of another random player! In other words, that little crab stole another player's loot and tried to sneak away into your world!

Great work and solid progress. The giant rat and the gaping dragon look intimidating when you first encounter them but they're a cakewalk when you actually face them. A nice reprieve from the mess that is the Capra Demon lol. @13:04 that is a Vagrant. It's a pretty cool concept. When a player dies with significant souls / humanity and fails to retrieve them....or when items are lost/ dropped without being retrieved--- The remnants of those lost items become a creature called a vagrant. These creatures invade another player's game. Some vagrants attack you, like the one you encountered. Others will run away from you (like the crystal lizards). Killing them gives you some good rewards. If they are not killed, they will jump into another player's world. They will keep doing that until they are eventually killed. The longer they survive the more powerful they become, and the better the reward will be when they are killed.

Yeah, the two handed move set is where that thing really slays. I never use the R2 in normal combat(too damn slow!) but if you manage to land it, it sends 'em flying, which rag-doll physics enjoyers will appreciate. Also, I feel like it helps against Demons, though I've yet to see hard evidence that it actually has a statistical damage bonus, or if that's just in the lore. All I know is every time I plan to do a dex or sorcery run, I'll end up getting that drop from the first Black Knight and changing my build. It makes the early game SOOOO much easier. (Forget the Drake Sword. This one you can actually take all the way!) If you grind the 'burg for the stats to at least 2-hand it, it'll smoke the Taurus in a single drop, which is super satisfying for anyone who struggled with that guy their first time through.

You can also check for illusory walls with rolling so you don't have to wear down your weapons' durability. Also might be interesting to know: Two-handing basically gives a 1.5 multiplyer on your strength stat so you can use some weapons two-handed even if your normal strength value isn't high enough.

You did fantastic against Gaping Dragon! Just so you know, the reason Strength weapons, such as the tail weapon, have such high Strength requirements, is because they are meant to be two-handed, and when you two-hand you get a 1.5x bonus to Strength. So if you have 30 Strength for example, you can two-hand a weapon that requires 45.

What a great episode! Definitely one of the most fun playthroughs of DS1 I've watched :D I've only ever seen one person not hunt down a purging stone and go to New Londo for the healer. It was a grueling task even tho don't need to use transient curses, but a really interesting "side quest" as a result of being cursed. I think if they made New Londo a little bit easier it would have made a lot of sense to make purging stones way harder (or impossible) to get until you've been to the healer once (because having to do that *again* if you get cursed again would be super tedious)

One of the amazing things about Day 1 Dark Souls was that curse could stack on you. I forget how many times it could stack, I think 4. But it was what ended my release-era playthough of the game, and I didn't come back until the game was extensively patched. I got cursed twice in a row and ended up with 1/4 of my max health and the game didn't actually tell you how to cure your curse other than to go to New Londo. I'll admit I rage-quit at the time, but looking back, pre-patch Dark Souls was absolutely magical, if only something a madman would enjoy.
@BeardedNerdSE Жыл бұрын
You did really well. Gaping Dragon was mostly textbook, having prepared with an upgraded weapon really helped. And after hitting an NPC and getting cursed, that's two classic impromptu "quests" dealt with. Seeing first reactions to Gaping Dragon also never gets old. "Oh it's just a cute little crocodi... oh." BTW, the sound that spooked you twice is an online thing, when people kindle their bonfires when you're near it, you get a bonus flask. There's a lot of weird and semi-functioning online stuff in this game, like the super rare vagrant crab you came across. There was also the strange message you got last episode where supposedly another player was making your world more difficult, but it rarely works and most of the time someone else takes care of it for you.

This was an absolute blast to watch, I think my favourite part was probably when you slid down the slope without actually dropping into the hole which saves *so* much frustration, haha. If you look closely you can kinda see that on that left hand side where you slid, there isn't any white foam/splashing unlike the rest of the thing where you'd end up with the salamanders in the pit immediately. Also, one of my favourite weird lil things is that the big bulbous eye things aren't their actual eyes -- they're just decoys, their actual eyes are tiny and almost look like nostrils!

The small crab is a Vagrant, when you drop a item in the ground it can travel around the other players world in vagrant form. The golden aura was a flask refil, it happens every time your message on the ground get a like And on the previous episode your world was affected by a gravelord servant, it make dark spirit versions of enemies spawn in the area you are (luckly you didn't find any), anyway it affect 3 or 4 worlds at same time and someone imvaded and killed the servant, triggering the message. Dark Souls 1 is the game from the franchise with the coolest multiplayer interactions.

13:06 That's actually a pretty rare enemy called a vagrant. I don't think I ever saw one until a repeat playthrough of the game. It's a cool concept that probably could've been implemented better. Basically if another player who's online loses a lot of humanity at once, that thing can spawn in your world. Then if you don't kill it, it will eventually get a bit stronger and go into somebody else game until it eventually gets killed. It's basically that "take this now or double it and give it to somebody else" meme but with a weird alien crab.

Fun facts about curse: on launch, it was a stacking effect. The first time you got cursed, your HP was reduced by 1/2, then by 1/4 and finally 1/8 on the third curse. And ngl, kinda glad that you got cursed, it's more interesting this way, so you will experience this unique mechanic, wanted to see your reaction and how you'd deal with it : ) I think I was cursed in the same spot on my first playthrough too! Now I'm heading to the next episode, good for me I've found your channel and they are all out already : )

I'm so glad you didn't give up after Crapra Demon. That's a fight that causes some people to give up, but it is all upward from there :)

Great job clearing out the sewers and taking out the Gaping Dragon in one shot! Can't wait for Blighttown! I didn't find it as bad as its reputation suggests, so hoping you have fun with it!

Before going to Blighttown try to get the item on the roof in the firelink shrine, jump from the elevetor to the platform (at 15:00) as you did then jump on the ramp and look for it, then go up to the nest. Once you get back to the Northen Asylum, open the door you couldn't open at the beginnig in the game and grab the item. It may help you in Blightown. And if you go where you started playing, you'll get a key for a secret area. See you!!

Well done on beating the Gaping Dragon first try, and getting the tail cut too! Shame about getting cursed but you're taking it in your stride. Curse doesn't stack, so if you get cursed again your health won't get halved again. Though originally it did, and you could end up with 1/8th of your health, thankfully that was patched out fairly early on!

Great episode, well done! If you get the chance, have a little nosey around on the lift you go up on from Firelink Shrine, there's a secret. 😉

Great to see another Dark souls video. I really hope you play Dark Souls 2 after this 🤞🙂 I know lots of people slag it off, but the criticisms are ridiculously over the top and mostly seem put on. And the more Dark souls content from you the better 😊

Loved the video! You mentioned preferring fast weapons, it might take a little bit of time but there's a really fun weapon called the Baldur Side Sword, dropped by the guys in the Undead Parish. If you are in the cathedral (where you fought that little crab thing), there's two kinds of Baldur knights, the ones with the bucklers and rapiers, and the other ones with bigger shields and long, thin slashy swords (it's this second type who drop the sword). It's very quick with a long reach, and does slash and thrust attacks. Would take a bit of farming (it is a rare drop from them and there's only like three of them in the Parish) so you might not want to bother but I think you'd really enjoy it if you happened to get it!
